Avatar f tn I have taken antihistamin(first, second generation H1 blocker, also H2 blocker), mast cell cell stabilizer(monokast) which are not responding to the hives . I have started taking glucocorticoid(prednisolone, deflacort) which are doing good. I have not found any trigger for this hives, which appear everyday and go away after taking steroid.
Avatar n tn I have been sick for the past 2 years. I have been diagnosed with POTS, but also had other symptoms that my POTS drs didn't feel was related. After extensive testing, I went to Brigham and Women's in Boston to see Mast Cell drs and have been diagnosed with mast cell activation disorder. I too am on treatment for it now. It has not exacerbated my POTS if anything it has made me feel a bit better. I am not great, but definitely better then when this whole thing started.
Avatar f tn The beginning treatment as described by Afrin and other doctors in their talks is an H1 blocker, an H2 blocker and a mast cell stabilizer such as quercetin (which helps to keep the mast cells from getting set off too easily).
Avatar f tn Does anyone know anything about mast cell activation? Just curious if this may play role.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am sorry to hear about this and glad to help. First get a copy of the biopsy reports, review each report carefully to see whether or not it indicates that each mast cell tumor was"completely" removed and that the "margins" are clean. If not, the few mast cells left simply regrow and form another tumor. Review your dogs diet carefully and consider the anti-cancer diet.
Avatar m tn something like prostaglandin induce mast cell tissue,it is called Mast cell tissue hyperplasia medically. The mast cell tissue release Histamine which spread to the air by some ways which cause allergic phen—.And I think the mast cell tissue is highly related to brown adipose tissu.Brown adipose is distributed in scapula, shoulder, neck, perineumIt.So,you might feel burning and scratch frequently in these place.Generally,I thought the instinct of PATM caused by histamine is immune system problem.
765439 tn?1292960414 i had a stupid question.my dog shane has what we believe to be a mast cell tumor most likely not beingn. the aspirates and blood work will be in this week. i gave shane a kiss on his back close to his tumor, and then he moved and i accidentally kissed his tumor and breathed it in, and he even has blood on the tumor and im not sure if ill have mast cell cancer now? i called the emergency vet and they didnt want to help cause im not an animal -_- oh and fr shane i have a quest.
158939 tn?1274915197 We will know more after the surgery, of course, but with the size of this tumor and how fast it has grown, (not knowing the spread, of course) what have you seen in your practice regarding the outcome of mast cell tumors that are this aggressive? I don't want to make her suffer but she seems to be enjoying life right now; I just want to make sure we give her as many good days as possible and that we have a good idea of .
Avatar m tn Anyone familiar with Mast Cell Leukemia? I see a topic for this under mastocytosis forum, but no posts. I am trying to identify the medical experts and cancer centers that specialize in this very rare cancer.
Avatar f tn It was biopsied and according to the pathology report the microscoping findings say that it was a Mast Cell Tumor, Low Grade 2. The vet suggested blood work every 6 months and x-rays once a year because she might get a tumor on her organs, said that her mitotic index is a 1 and that survival would be up to 70 months. If she were to get another mass he would do surgery again but that it would most likely come back.
3986919 tn?1352125983 Hi everyone....it is ME again! Making progress.....I DEFINATELY have a Mast Cell disease. I either have systemic Mastocytosis OR MCAD. (Mast Cell Activation disease) .....I could also have POTS because autonomic symptoms....mainly BP fluctuations, dizziness and rapid heartbeat during attacks. OR all my symptoms could be due to the Mast Cell disease. My hematologist has referred me to Boston where the Mastocytosis/Mast Cell disease experts are. I got a call today from them.
3986919 tn?1352125983 I get a message from a person on the mastocytosis forum (another site) and she tells me as long as I have a consistant blood tryptase level over 20 I have to have a Mast Cell disorder. She said I would have to go to a Mast Cell Center to get diagnosed since most docs know anything about this disease . That is how she was diagnosed and treated. Of course there are no centers in my state!!
Avatar n tn The doc suspects my dog has a Mast Cell Tumor. This would mean the tumor would be taken out, including a large margin around the area. Depending on what the Tumor tests out, it could mean following up with another operation to get more of the margin area out, and chemo and radiation therapy. I just do not want to put my dog through any operation. What happens if I let this go and do nothing? My dog is eating, playful and in no way seems to be in pain.
Avatar n tn If the molecules on the surface of a mast cell bind to their specific antigen they stimulate the mast cell to release several chemical messengers. The normal purpose of these chemicals is to organise a more effective immune response, but in sufficient quantities they can produce the damaging symptoms of allergy. The Antigen that causes such a reaction is known as an allergen.' http://www.barefoot-botanicals.com/allergy-testing.asp Hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn bone marrow, gastrointestinal, heart, pulmonary, and central nervous systems may be involved directly, via mast cell infiltration, or indirectly, via mast cell mediator release. The major criterion for diagnosis is multiple dense infiltrates of mast cells observed in bone marrow biopsy specimens and mast cells stained for tryptase in biopsy specimens from other organs including her skeletal tissue.
Avatar n tn Hi, besides the usually recommended things for itching like topical steroids, you might try mast cell stabilizers like quercetin. Mast cells release histamine.
Avatar f tn Treatment consists of a period of no lens wear, a combination anti-histamine and mast cell stabilizer eye drop, and possibly changing to gas permeable or daily disposable soft lenses.
Avatar f tn I have POTS with a Mast Cell activation disorder and I was wondering if anyone knows of any doctors in the Boston area that are good with POTS. I was diagnosed in Cincinnati, but I moved to Boston a year ago for college. I currently just see my doctors back home, but it is getting to be difficult.
Avatar n tn I ran across this forum while searching for information on Mast Cell Activation Syndrome with P.O.T.S. (positional orthostatic tachycardic syndrome). I have a suggestion. Some of you might want to try taking an H1 and H2 histamine blocker an hour before eating and see if that does any good. Benadryl is an example of an H1 and Pepcid is an H2, both available over the counter. Benadryl will knock you out if you aren't used to taking it. Zyrtec might be a better choice for an H1.
Avatar n tn I get stringy mucous in my eyes.My doctor gave me patanol but it only worked for 6 days.It has only .01 strenght.Would a stronger strenght relieve my eye symptoms?
Avatar f tn I wonder are you hypothyroid? Whenever i am on T4 only thyroid hormone, like synthroid, levothyroxine (the usuals that docs prescribe), I can have bad sweats/hot flashes. I don't do a real good job of converting T4 to ,T3 (removing 1 iodine molecule). I use a med with some of both. For a while I still had some residual night sweats. My doc sold me s bottle of Pharma brand GABA, a neurotransmitter that can be low in fibro. That did the trick.
1528897 tn?1291833568 Nasal steroids are the most common. There are also nasal antihistamines. You can also purchase an OTC mast cell stabilizer, NasalCrom. It is very effective. Lastly, if nasal drainage is the problem you can try atrovent. Have you tried a variety of oral antihistamines. Zyrtec has very few side effects. Its successor Xyzal has even fewer (same basic active chemical, but it is more purified). Allegra also has few side effects.
