Common Questions and Answers about Patanol gpc

pataday

Avatar m tn When he was checking me, he diagnosed me with Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis and put me on patanol eye drops - he said I was allergic to the contacts I was wearing and said that the pain I felt on my left eye was because I had a foreign body in that eye and my left eye is more sensitive than before. I explained to him that my right eye was fine and he told me that my right eye actually hurts just the same but it's overshadowed by the pain in my left eye.
Avatar m tn My son was diagnosed with GPC around six months ago. He has been on an oral antihistimine (claritin) for many years and uses Patanol and theratears. He was told he could no longer wear contact lenses (that's fine) and hasn't since his diagnoses. There is little change to his GPC even after using a prescription eye drop with steroids and antibiotic. His opthamologist never asked if he used any face cleanser. He uses a 10% Benzoyl Peroxide wash, in addition to Clearasil pads.
Avatar n tn I've had GPC for 4 years. I have not worn my contacts in 4 years (except for special occasions). I have chronic pain and redness in my left eye, even when I don't wear my lenses. I've been on the steroids, the patanol, etc. Nothing works long term. I decided to explore alternative treatments (acupressure, acupuncture, NAET, BioSet). Through NAET (naet.
Avatar n tn I get stringy mucous in my eyes.My doctor gave me patanol but it only worked for 6 days.It has only .01 strenght.Would a stronger strenght relieve my eye symptoms?
Avatar f tn GPC varies quite a bit in how quickly it resolves, from days to over 14 months and unresolved despite no contacts anymore. If you have allergy issues then that can play a factor and allergy meds can help, as can changing contact lens brands to ones with different materials or perhaps a different fit. I wore contact lenses for decades, and for the first couple I'd sometimes get GPC during allergy seasons and need to stop contact lens use for days or a few weeks and it would go away.
Avatar n tn I have GPC and do not wear contacts. I’ve been on prednisone eye drops for the past week with no relief. Was on Pataday for a month before that with no relief. What can I do?
Avatar f tn GPC is not a surgical condition. There is a medication specifically for GPC in eyedrop form: Sodium cromolyn. However it normallyis used NOT wearing contacts.
Avatar m tn Avoid contact lenses till the GPC is all gone. It will get worse again if not fully resolved.
19931670 tn?1486845153 In (I believe) June of 2016 I went to have my vision exam. I am 21 years old and have been using the same brand of contacts (Acuvue Oasys) since I was 12 years old. The optometrist insisted on me trying a new brand, the prescription she wrote was weaker than the one I already had and I told her I couldn't see, everything was blurry. She argued with me that it was in fact the right prescription and told me to try them for 2 weeks and come back.
Avatar m tn I bought a bottle of Patanol eye drops about a month and three weeks ago, I found the box a couple days ago and noticed on the box that it says discard thirty days after opening... The expiry date on the bottle says 01-2011.. Is this bad that I used the eye drops three weeks after it was suppose to be discarded? I only used three quaters of the bottle. I paid a little over fifty dollars for this little 5 mL bottle.... But what can you do....
Avatar f tn First of all pred forte (PF) a strong steroid with many side effects if used for months on end (glaucoma, cataracts) is NOT the preferred treatment for GPC. The RX is Opticrom (cromylin sodium) and ceasing wearing contacts. It can take 6-12 months for the GPC to clear. Hopefully you are under the care of an eye MD. If you were prescribed PF by optometrist I would see an Eye MD ophthalmologist ASAP. Follow this link and read about GPC https://emedicine.medscape.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with GPC and recently ended the use of steroid drops. Ever since I've stoped the steroid drops, I've woken up with crusty, glued eyes. Could the lingering GPC be causing this? I've been doing artificial tears multiples times a day and Pataday drops 2x a day. I have a follow up appointment soon, I'm thinking about trying to move it up if this is something serious.
Avatar f tn I went to see the eye doctor in January of this year and he said that I have GPC and gave me alamast and told me not to wear my contacts. However, this has not helped. My eyelid still swells up. I went back to the doctor in May and he gave me a 30-day supply of Dexamethasone eye drops. After a week or so on them i was able to have some relief. After the 30 days on this the doctor gave me elestat and said my eye looked much better.
Avatar n tn Go in to see the optometrist or ophthalmologist that fit your contacts, have them flip the upper lid to check for problems including GPC (giant papillary conjunctivitis) which is a contact lens related problme that could cause those symptoms.
Avatar n tn When does the swelling/ptosis of GPC go away? I have had this for over a month now. The MD gave me Alamast and said just stop wearing my contacts for awhile. He did not want to give me any steriod drops for the swelling because he said that is just a temporary fix. I look under my eyelid and do notice the small white bumps. They haven't gone down in size yet. The "foreign object sensation" has gone away. I'm worried this will last forever!
Avatar n tn The only change I have made in my life style is to take Patanol eye drops for allergy eyes. I have been using them once daily for 4 months. Could it be that this antihistamine can be causing this increase in my blood pressure? I am allergic to the drugs used for controling blood pressure and prior to this successfully lowered my pressure by exercise and diet.It is normal for me to have a reading of 130 over 80. I am 59 years old. I weigh 110 pounds. I am 5 foot 6 inches tall.
Avatar f tn He said it is possible that I am developing intolerance to contact lenses. I have had GPC twice in the past (though not anytime recently). Is it possible that I may be destined to stop wearing contact lenses for good? Can some people immune systems simply continue to react to any/all lenses?
Avatar m tn Your visual abnormalities may quitelikely be due to your contacts and GPC. Actually with GPC you should probably NOT wear your contacts, use cromolyn drops and give your eye several months rest until the GPC goes away. After than you might consider daily disposable contacts, glasses or lasik. GPC produces mucous that coats the cornea and fills the tear film.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me to use Patanol and Xiloial together. But she said İ should use one of them first, then apply the other. Cuz one of them is gel or whatever. But now i cant remember which one she said that İ should use first. Can you please help me?
Avatar f tn , Last night, after reading so much information here, I happened to remember I had a bottle of Patanol in the medicine cabinet and I used it. I may be guilty of wishful thinking but it seemed like my eye felt dramatically better. I used the Patanol again this morning and so far so good.
Avatar f tn Opticrom is for GPC not season allergies or dryness. Since you no longer wear contacts the GPC will eventually go away. Your best bet if dry eyes is long term restasis. Another product you might read about xiidra is not any better but hugely more expensive.
Avatar f tn So in addition to the GPC problems that I posted about, my 4 year old accidentally hit me in my left eye last night - it wasn't a hard hit, but it did hurt, and I saw flashing white lights when she hit me. It's the next morning, and it still aches. No vision changes, and the eyeball itself looks normal. Of course, it's a Saturday, but I'm wondering if I should go to the Mass Eye and Ear ER to get it checked out - would I know if I had a corneal abrasion? Thanks!
Avatar n tn thanks for commenting back they are really good now not bllodshot and a little runny and not to bad today
Avatar n tn My eyes become itchy and watery. I have used patanol in the past but the eye Dr is now recommending patasol which is very expensive. I want to try Zyrtec d instead of Zyrtec which gives me some releif. Any other suggestions are appreciated.
Avatar n tn Systane, Blink, Refresh, Soothe and something for allergies like Patanol or Pataday. If your allergy is bad enough to require a steroid then lotemax, or pred mild would be better choices.
Avatar n tn One though it might be mild GPC, but grade 1 GPC should not be this painful. I saw an allergist who found I was only allergic to dust mites and the drops I was given have not helped at all. I've tried every drop, vitamin supplement and tears with no luck. The surgeon says this is likely not a result of the surgery since the pain is not near the area where the surgery was performed. Could this be a corneal abrasion or scar?
