Common Questions and Answers about Patanol glaucoma

Avatar m tn My eyes constantly have redness in them, mostly the outsides & the left one is more red than the right. How do I get rid of the redness in my eyes (without powerful medication). I'm already using an anti-allergy drop (Zaditor) which doesn't help THAT much. I've used Patanol before too. How can I get rid of the redness?
Avatar n tn I get stringy mucous in my eyes.My doctor gave me patanol but it only worked for 6 days.It has only .01 strenght.Would a stronger strenght relieve my eye symptoms?
Avatar m tn Initially I used Xalatan for 1 year and then my doctor did a small laser procedure to open up the cornea in my eyes to let the fluid out which has kept the eye pressure under 16 or so. Currently I am using Patanol and its only for occasional use. As per my doctor ,My glaucoma has not spread at all and it is in same condition when diagnosed.I am currently 33 and according to my doctor,I am a unique case.
Avatar m tn I bought a bottle of Patanol eye drops about a month and three weeks ago, I found the box a couple days ago and noticed on the box that it says discard thirty days after opening... The expiry date on the bottle says 01-2011.. Is this bad that I used the eye drops three weeks after it was suppose to be discarded? I only used three quaters of the bottle. I paid a little over fifty dollars for this little 5 mL bottle.... But what can you do....
Avatar n tn The only change I have made in my life style is to take Patanol eye drops for allergy eyes. I have been using them once daily for 4 months. Could it be that this antihistamine can be causing this increase in my blood pressure? I am allergic to the drugs used for controling blood pressure and prior to this successfully lowered my pressure by exercise and diet.It is normal for me to have a reading of 130 over 80. I am 59 years old. I weigh 110 pounds. I am 5 foot 6 inches tall.
Avatar n tn ve finally decided to go to an eye doctor two days ago. He ruled out cataracts, keratokonus and glaucoma. Said that I have very slight astigmatism in my eye that wasn't corrected for in the glasses, but he says it's so silght that it is not the cause of the ghost images. He prescribed Patanol and said to come back in 4 weeks. So far -- it's been two days -- the eyedrops aren't helping at all.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me to use Patanol and Xiloial together. But she said İ should use one of them first, then apply the other. Cuz one of them is gel or whatever. But now i cant remember which one she said that İ should use first. Can you please help me?
Avatar f tn , Last night, after reading so much information here, I happened to remember I had a bottle of Patanol in the medicine cabinet and I used it. I may be guilty of wishful thinking but it seemed like my eye felt dramatically better. I used the Patanol again this morning and so far so good.
Avatar n tn thanks for commenting back they are really good now not bllodshot and a little runny and not to bad today
Avatar f tn After the removal the regular steroids were stopped and my surgeon handed my care back to my opthalmologists. I am also regularly on Patanol and lubricating drops. How can I address this issue to my opthalmologists to encourage them to look into alternative methods of treatment if there are any rather than prescibing a short course during an active flareup?
Avatar n tn My eyes become itchy and watery. I have used patanol in the past but the eye Dr is now recommending patasol which is very expensive. I want to try Zyrtec d instead of Zyrtec which gives me some releif. Any other suggestions are appreciated.
Avatar n tn Systane, Blink, Refresh, Soothe and something for allergies like Patanol or Pataday. If your allergy is bad enough to require a steroid then lotemax, or pred mild would be better choices.
Avatar m tn When he was checking me, he diagnosed me with Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis and put me on patanol eye drops - he said I was allergic to the contacts I was wearing and said that the pain I felt on my left eye was because I had a foreign body in that eye and my left eye is more sensitive than before. I explained to him that my right eye was fine and he told me that my right eye actually hurts just the same but it's overshadowed by the pain in my left eye.
Avatar f tn Tobramycin, Patanol, and Amox-clav. Every time he uses them his eyes sting and have been of very little help for him. Also, after the first few days, he went raking out in his backyard for a couple hours. Could that have caused damage or an irritant to get in his eyes? What do you suggest he do?
Avatar m tn He has been on an oral antihistimine (claritin) for many years and uses Patanol and theratears. He was told he could no longer wear contact lenses (that's fine) and hasn't since his diagnoses. There is little change to his GPC even after using a prescription eye drop with steroids and antibiotic. His opthamologist never asked if he used any face cleanser. He uses a 10% Benzoyl Peroxide wash, in addition to Clearasil pads.
Avatar n tn It was initially thought to be allergies, but the Patanol did not help. Opthamologist then prescribed tobradex, which worked until I came off it. We then moved to longer tobradex usage that tapered over two weeks. Came back again once I came off. Then moved to oral antibiotic for one week and zylet - no results. Now oral antibiotic for two weeks - no results.
Avatar f tn I will also do the drops. I have a prescription for patanol eye drops that I use during the fall hayfever season. It is odd though my eyes are Never this bad during hayfever season!
Avatar f tn Juvenile open angle glaucoma is a form of open angle glaucoma which occurs in young adults. It is treatable, but frequently requires surgery, as it may be quite resistant to eye drop therapy to lower the eye pressure. There often is a genetic component to this form of glaucoma.
Avatar m tn The general incidence of glaucoma in the general populations with special risk factors that live a normal life span is 2% among high myopes (and your are barely hi myope and at age 18 very unlikely you will get beyound -7.00) the risk may be double, which sounds bad, but that is only 4% so most high myopes don't get glaucoma. Glaucoma is harder to diagnose because of 2 reasons: 1. The cup/disc ratio is larger in myopes 2. the cornea is generally thinner .
Avatar m tn You should see a glaucoma specialist (ophthalmologist with fellowship training in glaucoma) for a full glaucoma evaluation to make sure you do not have the early signs of glaucoma. He/she could check you for narrow angle glaucoma (gonioscopy), pigment dispersion, pseudo-exfoliation, etc. as these are causes of glaucoma frequently missed by non-specialists and they could also perform an optic nerve OCT exam which will demonstrate whether there is any early damage from glaucoma.
Avatar f tn I think it very important that you get a second opinion from a glaucoma specialist that you have glaucoma. If you do the preferred treatment is likely NOT drops but SLT or ALT laser. As often as 70% of the time that controls glaucoma and drops are not needed only careful follow up. Exercises will not help glaucoma, using your eyes does not cause glaucoma. If there is a medical school in Costa Rica that might work.
Avatar m tn My guess is that glaucoma cannot be easily detected. Yes, there maybe idications of glaucoma if a patient has an elevated IOP and c/d ratio. However, the cause of those things may not be glaucoma. Although, the first possible cause on the list may be glaucoma, it may not be the correct diagnosis, which is why the other tests are called for. But this is all just a guess since I'm not a doctor. Why not just ask your ophthalmologist?
Avatar n tn Allergies are an immune system problem, and can be very difficult to treat. This is a problem of an overactive immune system that is treating non-harmful materials as harmful. One way to deal with it is to try an elimination diet, where you get rid of most everything you eat and slowly add in foods one at a time, since food allergies are quite common.
