Pacemaker insertion replacement

Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker insertion replacement

pacemaker

Avatar f tn 3 weeks ago I had a Pacemaker replacement due to the fact my battery on my Pacemaker was running low. The new Pacemaker installed is a Medtronic Adapta. Since the new pacemaker my Heart beat has been all over the place. My 1st Enrhythym was paced at 80 bpm, and it pretty much stayed like that for 5.5 years until the battery started to go. The problem is is that the new Pacemaker is not like that at all! My heartbeat goes from 56 to 93, back to 71 then 86, and has gone a high as 100.
Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.
Avatar m tn I have a close friend who has been told by her doctor that her pacemaker will only last up to 6 months. She has no insurance and is low income. Does anyone know how to help her with this. She has been going to different clinics and is exploring every avenue but keeps being told no one can help her. Can anyone give advice on how to help her.

Avatar f tn Pacemaker batteries will not run out unexpectedly. When a battery is running low, the elective replacement indicator (ERI) is activated. Physicians can detect this activation during a routine office visit. In addition, the battery status and the general functioning of the pacemaker can be tested over the telephone. This is generally done every one to two months.
Avatar n tn It would make sense to think that it's caused by the need for a battery replacement, since the pacemaker is just that, a pacemaker and if it's not working, then her HR will be affected. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn My husband's 1st pacemaker was nearing its 10 yr. warranty time in March 2022. We had testing done in November 2021 so we could be prepared in advance for a replacement when the time came in 2022. The technician did some tests and insisted his pacemaker had maybe 12 - 18 months left before it needed replacement. We protested the findings so they scheduled a 6 month appt for June 2022.
Avatar n tn In my experience, when a Pacemaker is inserted by a Cardiologist, a representative by the Pacemaker manufacturer follows up the insertion and programs the pacemaker in the hospital. It's not unusual that it has to be tweaked from time to time. If your husband still isn't feeling right, I'd request that you contact your Cardiologist and ask for a manufacturer's rep to be present to review the history of your heart beats since it was inserted.
Avatar m tn Many times, pacemaker replacement can be done under local anesthesia. This is not a difficult procedure. Absolutely get another opinion!
Avatar n tn Normally, she should not have such pain after the insertion of the pacemaker. Maybe its position is causing some muscle spasm that is affecting her arm. The best option is to take her back to the doctor who inserted the pacemaker and explain the situation to him. If she has some fever, it may mean that the pacemaker place is infected and needs an urgent intervention.
Avatar m tn We are trying to figure out if we should go direclty to the insertion of a pacemaker vs. an ablasion procedure. Since ablasion procedure may need to be repeated and flecainide (drug after ablasion) is questionable, should we just go directly to the pacemaker?
Avatar f tn Doctors will not operate on AAA or pacemaker replacement due to frailness. What can I expect as the battery on the pacemaker fails?
Avatar m tn In March my Mother had a replacement pacemaker box fitted. As soon as she came back to the ward she complained of intense pain in her sternum, she was told by the nurses that she was suffering from indigestion, they gave her Gaviscon. Although she was still in pain they discharged her two hours later.
Avatar m tn It would be nice if your mom had a little plastic door that could be popped open and the old batteries taken out and a new set of double A's dropped in. Such is not the case though, obviously. In fact "battery replacement" is a misnomer. In actuality, the entire pacemaker is replaced. The leads from the heart are literally unplugged from the unit, the old unit is removed, and replaced by a completely new one loaded with a fresh battery.
Avatar n tn I had my Pacemaker inserted March 12th after Aortic valve replacement on March 8th. I went into complete heart block three days after valve replacement and this is reason for Pacemaker which paces 90% of the time for my lower chamber of heart. My clicking started in middle of summer and now is so constant that it wakes me up at night. Can not lay on my left side or it will click like crazy.
Avatar f tn I got a pacemaker June 20th on the left side. There has been swelling in my left shoulder and arm from almost the time I got the pacemaker. The left side of my neck is contantly stiff. A venogram showed no clots. The shoulder and are feel very tight and the left arm is obviously larger than the right arm to the naked eye. My cardiologist said this is unusual but didn't think I have anything to worry about. Did my surgeon put the pacemaker in incorrectly? Is it crimping my vein?
Avatar f tn Only complication was lung collapsed while in hosp but they inflated it again (not sure of proper term). They placed a defibrillator/pacemaker in before he left the hosp. It has been six years and it needs replaced due to a low battery --leads do not need replaced. The unit has not had to shockor pace since implanted which is good. His diagnosis is congestiveheart failure, 35-40 E F fraction(sp?
Avatar f tn I'm having what the doctor referred to as a "generator repair" on my pacemaker next Tuesday. How long does this usually take? What other complications might be found?
