I used to take 30 mg of Opana ER twice a day but I switched to the Fentanyl patch last month. 30 mg of Opana ER is roughly 60 mg of oxycodone or 90 mg of morphine. 10 mg of Opana ER is roughly 20 mg of oxycodone or 30 mg of morphine. You are actually getting 5 mg less of oxycodone through the switch from percocet to Opana ER. However, since Opana ER is an entirely different opioid formulation.

But given my recent medication change to Opana ER, I have found information all across the internet from other chronic pain patients that are being switched from Oxycontin to Opana ER due to their doctor's unwillingness to continue to prescribe the medication due to bad press and associated fear from DEA prosecution.

I am new to Opana Er and am taking 3 5 mgs a day. It is helping my quality of life but I am having headaches and still having breakthrough pain. I go back to my doctor next week and wonder if I need a different dose. Any ideas?

30 pm just to wake up and take the Opana ER as staying awake until dosing time was just adding to the fatigue in the mornings. I am doing well and couldn't be happier with pain management right now! :) It is all so surreal.

Not sure if you have tried Opana (oxymorphone) yet but based on pharmacology, it is a little stronger than Dilaudid (hydromorphone) mg to mg. I am on 30 mg of Opana ER twice a day. They do have Opana in immediate release form. Opana has a long half life, even in immediate release form, such that 6 hour dosing works extremely well for most patients versus the 4 hour dosing of oxycodone. Oxymorphone is the metabolite of oxycodone...

Now, converting that to Opana ER. Opana ER is 3x stronger than morphine; hence, 120 mg of morphine = 120/3 mg of Opana ER per day (i.e., 40 mg). Therefore I should be taking 20 mg of Opana ER every 12 hours NOT 30 mg of Opan ER every 12 hours. The 40 mg Opana ER includes all of the breakthrough percocet I take per day and the total in morphine sulfate ER I take per day. With this lower dose, I still should not need breakthrough meds.

when i could not find oxycontin i would take opana er 40mg. opana(oxymorphone) is about twice as potent as oxycodone. they are rather new i believe they came out in 2002?

I have been on Opana for a year now and have weaned down from 50mg/day to 15.The dosing parameters are minimum 5mg/day to max 180mg/day.I havent taken more than 15 mg in a 24 hour period for a few days now and have one 5 mg pill left.Am I going to get dopesick? or at that low dosage will it all be in my head?Competition for my job is hard right now and I dont want to loose it because I made myself sick.Anyone please help?

Hi I take 1 20mg opana er per day I'm prescribed 3 a day but never take 3, maybe 2 if I'm having a really bad pain day but that is usually 1 or 2 days per month. I would like to come totally off it to see if I can manage my pain in more natural ways. Being that I that so little will WD be bad, should I just go cold turkey or wean by putting more space between doses?

Is there a chart that I can use to convert fentanyl patch strength to the Opana Er strength?

Has anyone had issues with withdrawal symptoms coming on suddenly? I know the Opana ER doesn't last 12 hours (even my doc warned me this was the case) but this latest batch of opana seems to poop out & give me old sweats about 4 hours after taking it. I've been on Opana ER, 20 mg 2x/day for a couple of months. It's my 2nd experience with long-acting opioids (1st was Oxycontin MS, quit after 10 days due to gluten issues).

Opana ER has been a LIVESAVING drug for me, non sedating, i can hold my huge babies and have no side effects, I highly recommended the ER, you take it only 2 x a day, I ran out one day before my pain doctor appt and am in excruciating pain in back and hips. Hi, Iknow it has been a few years since your post, i was wondering how you are doing on the Opana ER. I am switching from Opana 30 mg ER to Morphine 60 mg ER.The Opana gave me side effects, dizziness, being in withdrawl if I missed a dose, and it did not help my chronic pain.. I have tried many ER drugs and I am having a hard time finding many of them. Plus my breakthrough meds are also hard to find.

He told me that in the 7 years of him prescribing the medication he has not had a single patient become addicted to the medicine like patients do on Norco's and other pain meds. The norcos have started to just not work since my tolerance has built up to them. I am taking one Opana in the morning and one at night, with my norcos as a back up pain reliever.

Given your Oxycontin dosing, you would need to take a 40 mg Opana ER tab 3x a day as 40 mg of oxymorphone is equal to 80 mg of Oxycontin. You may look into the regular Opana IR tablets for breakthrough pain. I take percocet for breakthrough pain but I have read that the half life on the Opana IR tablets are 6 hours versus 2 hours for percocet. I am thinking of asking my doctor about them at the next appointment.

t know how many 5/325 mg Percocets you were taking a day before switching to the Opana ER 5 mg, but to have equivalent pain relief from the Opana ER, you had to have taken only 2 Percocets a day. If you were taking more than 2 Percocets a day then the switch to Opana ER 5 mg was a step down in terms of pain relieving strength.

I have been taking Opana ER 30mg. 3 times a day for several months. My doctor has moved to Alaska and gave me 3 months of prescriptions while I find another doctor. When I dropped off the 2nd prescription the pharmacy told me they have ordered Opana several times over the last month and the order has not come. I called every pharmacy in my town and they said the same thing. Tapering is out of the question, so I guess its time for me to stop taking it, and it will have to be cold turkey.

I was put on Opana 10 for my back by my PM doc when there was the shortage of the oxy going. After that my regular doc put me on Ritalin 10 mg 2xday for my adult ADD. I have been having trouble with the Opana lasting like it should. I find it's wearing off at the 3 hr mark instead of around 5 hrs. I was prescribed the Opana 10 IR 4xday, but it's not lasting.
