Avatar f tn I am not happy with taking drugs while pregnant but I have lost a extrem amount of weight and it has been stressed to me medication and iv fluids are absolutely necessary. So have been taking Ondansetron (Zofran) and another prochlorperazine. I am very scared of what I have heard about these two drugs and my huge question is what medications do you pregnant women out there trust???
Avatar m tn I'm still up, day 3 of wd's. yesterday was horrible; body aches, twitching etc. But I managed to fall asleep for several hours last night, after no sleep the night before. And today, i was tired, but no pain or tension, and I thought I was done. but it all came back tonight. It's 5:30am and still no sleep. by body is real twitching and achey. I have some promethazine, it's a antihistimine, used for treating nausea.
Avatar f tn ve taken Omeprazole, Nexium, Zantac 150, Ondansetron/Zofran, Promethazine 50 mg and Maalox Maximum Strength.
Avatar f tn It depends somewhat on what is causing your nausea and how severe it is. The promethazine Dee mentions is effective but can also be quite sedating for some people. I couldn't stay awake if my life depended on it when I took that drug. Ginger is very safe and can be very helpful for mild nausea, but didn't even touch my severe nausea. The miracle drug for me was ondansetron, commonly given to chemotherapy patients.
1201433 tn?1328997637 Its effects are thought to be on both peripheral and central nerves. Ondansetron reduces the activity of the vagus nerve, which deactivates the vomiting center in the medulla oblongata, and also blocks serotonin receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone.
Avatar f tn My Dr has tried two different meds so far, ondansetron and promethazine. Neither have worked, I have to go in today cause I haven't been able to keep down food for 2 days now.
1201433 tn?1328997637 I take 8 mg every 8 hours, usually about an hour before I take my meds. You will need a prescription for it. With Zofran, do not wait until you get nauseated. Ondansetron works by blocking the 5HT3 receptors that are found in the brain and gut. This prevents the nausea messages being sent from these areas to the vomiting centre. Ondansetron therefore prevents nausea, retching and vomiting that can otherwise occur following surgery or due to cancer treatments. http://www.netdoctor.co.
Avatar f tn I talked to my doctor and they prescribed me a med called ondansetron to help with the nausea. Its my second day taking it and its working great. I can eat! :) hope this helps!
Avatar f tn I had morning sickness pretty bad I'm now 22 weeks and still get nauseous occasionally. Try getting a prescription for diclectin and or Zofran also called ondansetron they're miracle drugs. I'm still on all 3 of mine, they want to try acupuncture with me to see if it'll help.
Avatar f tn Ondansetron is Zofran hun. Its just the generic name for zofran. Even though theres a lawsuit, id say its more of a money maker. I took it both pregnancies and my babies came out fine. Youve got to look at whether the benefits outweigh the risk with ANY medication. If youre miserable and need to eat for baby, take it. My advice is try to only take it when u really need it, not on a regular basis. Stop as soon as symptoms ease up. Lots of water too.
Avatar f tn Ondansetron is the generic for Zofran. Why would you refuse it? It's safe to take or your Dr wouldn't prescribe it to you. There's other meds out there if you don't want to take it. My Dr gave me Diclegis. It helped take the edge off the nausea.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed APO-ONDANSETRON for Nausea associated with Cannabis withdrawals. My Ontario drug benefit card only covers this medication for Cameo therapy patients. This medication is effective, but not affordable. Is there cheaper, as effective alternatives? If I use this medication for the duration of my Cannabis withdrawals ,will my nausea return after I stop taking the medication? Does the medication in a sense prolong my body's natural progress of becoming less Nauseous.
Avatar n tn I went to the ER on Sunday night, and was prescribed Phenagren for nausea, and when it was filled at the pharmacy they gave me Promethazine. I read about it and their not exactly sure of side effects on the fetus but said its okay to take before 38weeks gestation.. Well, even with my reservations about taking it, I have been, as prescribed, but the last two days, it hasn't worked! I've been throwing up EVERYTHING once again!
8367118 tn?1442605420 m allergic to zofran but promethazine has always worked for me. The thing about it is that it just stops you from puking, it won't stop you from being nauseous. So you may still feel sick as hell. That's why I'm happy that it knocks me out. Sleeping helps.
1654058 tn?1407159066 My husband has Ondansetron in the arsenal, but he uses it rarely. For the most part, he finds ginger ale and small pieces of bittersweet chocolate help when treatment nausea hits. Sugar free lemon/fruit drops helped sometimes, but it's sort of a nice safety net to have the rx meds at hand if the nausea turns to vomiting.
Avatar f tn Ondansetron has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA. Animal studies failed to reveal evidence of fetal damage. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Case reports have described two women who have received ondansetron during pregnancy for life-threatening hyperemesis gravidarum. No abnormalities were noted in the offspring of these two women. Ondansetron is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.
