4274823 tn?1388529098 Thanks for the list. I avoid soy and flax due to a health issue. I do eat pumpkin seeds and walnuts as well as plenty of vegetables and fruit. Interesting about papaya. Ideally I would like to get it from food rather than have to purchase an expensive supplement that I don't feel 100% comfortable with.
Avatar f tn any thing with Omega-3 in it
Avatar m tn You need approximately 2500-3000 calories per day which is spread across 3 meals a day with snacks between meals. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
529224 tn?1400648219 I take Vytorin, which mixes drugs to control both ingested fats and cholesterol manufactured in the liver. I also take 2000 mg of Omega 3 oils to encourage the development of HDL (good) cholesterol. This mix has helped me greatly.
Avatar f tn re tiny seeds that have very little taste and can easily be put in almost any food. I put 1/2 tsp in my cereal or yogurt once a day and now have all the Omega-3 I need without the expensive pills or having to worry about whether I'm eating enough fish. It also costs alot less - last weekend I paid only $1.19 for 1/2 lb. that should last at least a month. If you research it, they are the best source for non-fish Omega-3, even better than walnuts (and less fattening).
Avatar f tn Suggest increasing vitamin E and Omega 3 food sources while you are breast feeding to prevent any issues with your child. Vitamin E is found in all whole grain sources, wheat germ; and omega 3 are in nuts, fish, teas, flaxseed, and egg to name a few. Plus you get the added benefit of the fiber.
1276890 tn?1271027818 Recommend a moderate fat intake which means using polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats and no Trans fats. Vegans need vitamin B12 and calcium supplements. Suggest you take a daily multi-vitamin and increase calcium consummation (soy milk, soy cheese, soy yogurt, leafy green vegetables) for stronger bones.
Avatar m tn If I eat three meals when I wake up in the morning and eat my breakfast it seems that the new food will push the waste out and I will have a bowel movement , but that is the only way I will have a bowel movement and if I don't eat anything and fast then I will not have a bowel movement. I read on the internet that muslim teaches people to eat one meal a day and drink plenty of water thoughout the day.
233488 tn?1310693103 have a social network and a benevolent belief system. Wear your seatbelt and drive carefully. Take 2-3 omega 3 fish oil pills/capsules daily. Do not become markedly overweight or obese. The above article was the Archives of Ophthalology December 13 2010 Authors JA Mares and others.
Avatar m tn I stopped eating chicken, fried food, and fast food.I mostly east vegetables and vegan food, once in a while Ill cook a steak. I began working out about a month ago but I want to enhance my workouts to get better results.I purchased a book about the body and I leaned about amino acids. My question is, is it safe for me to take L Arginine and L Lysine in a supplement pill like a vitamin. Can I also drink Casein protein. Will the amino acids and casein protein interfere with my ITP.
1063764 tn?1272821064 I've been a vegetarian for the last five years, almost. There were a few points where I was vegan for months at a time. Right now I do eat eggs and some dairy occasionally but no fish. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about three years ago...but I have reason to believe that I had it long before. I remember how my body felt years ago...so I don't want to blame vegetarianism for my hypothyroidism. Getting to my point- I've had pretty bad memory loss for a few years now as well.
Avatar f tn m open to new info if you have it. What is true is that the Omega 3 in flax seed oil is different from that in fish oil, and flax seed oil contains more than just omega 3 oils, whereas most fish oil is artificially purified to eliminate many other beneficial oils that would also be a fish.
Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.
Avatar m tn Many studies are exposed everyday. My opinion is this : try to eat food which contain omega 3 such as sardines or salmon etc If it is difficult for you I would suggest omega 3 capsules but I would also suggest you to confirm this with your doctor because all capsules are not the same!
526889 tn?1212540641 I would recommend a Heart Healthy diet which is a moderate fat diet. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
535822 tn?1443976780 If I go vegetarian wont I simply be eating carbs I thought that one had to eat protein to balance it out ,I have been eating more chicken and have felt better . I would take Omega 3 but what ever supplements I take I seem to feel bad or get stomach upsets except for Vit C ...someone suggested I use liquid supplements instead of tablets .I am trying to educate myself a lot by reading and googling , coming here for advice others have is also helpful to me ,thank you ..
1281900 tn?1320336402 Sorry its fish oil and EPA
Avatar f tn A good way to start the day would be oat (I add vanilla and cinnamon for some flavour) add a teaspoon of ground flax seed or a teaspoon of chia seeds to your oats, both will provide you with omega 3. A little bit of knowledge can go a long way and all this info is readily available and I found it all very useful when switching to a vegan diet. It would be a shame for someone so young to suffer permanent damage from being underweight.

1530658 tn?1299766324 I guess there are no vegetarians LOL
Avatar n tn While all children with ADHD are not deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, we believe that the addition of omega-3 fatty acids to the diet may be important for some ADHD children. In fact, studies show that children whose treatment program includes only medication, educational and psychological therapy continue to be at high risk for vandalism, petty crime, frequency of alcoholic intoxication, and possession of marijuana.

Avatar f tn Of course, if you eat dairy, you're not completely a vegetarian, but if you're a vegetarian and have high cholesterol you're eating very poorly. Being a vegetarian doesn't guarantee health, you still have to follow all the same rules as non-vegetarians. Anyway, I hope it all works out. As for the scale, the one at home is not as accurate as the one at the doctor's office. You might have been wearing shoes.
Avatar f tn Not all fish have a high level of mercury. If your doc didn't give you a list, Google it and it will say what fish to absolutely avoid and which is okay and couple times a week. It's not good to just avoid all fish because they are so rich in nutrients that are also good for baby.
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
Avatar n tn I am taking vitamin B12 and consuming enough ALA Omega 3 in the form of flax, or so I believe. But I know it converts poorly. I just wonder if I am hurting myself by being vegetarian? Worse, am I hurting my partner? We consumed no heavily manufactured products. I make everything at home from raw materials. My partner has lost so much weight, despite eating like a kraken... and I have put so much weight on, despite eating little. My biggest concern is my early menopause, though.
