I'm a 64 yrs. old woman who used to take Diovan 320 mg. & Toprol 50 mg. for my B.P. My B.P. readings was okay but my Doctor discontinued the Toprol because my heart rate usually on the 40's. I am currently taking Norvasc 5mg. with the Diovan 320 mg. So far, my B.P. readings is very good, 110/70. But eversince I started the Norvasc, my left leg is swelling and it is becoming worst. I'd like to ask my Doctor to discontinue the Norvasc.
I have started taking Norvasc for Hypertension and am having side effects such as nausea, headache, and it seems to be causing some eye pain and pressure. My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?
Mother just started on Norvasc already on Tenormin. Now I've heard there is a problem with the two drugs together causing heart failure. Is that really happening? Please my mother will stop Norvasc unneccassarily if I can't find out the real information about this. She is limited on drug options so this is important. Thanks so very much.
80 year old woman with hypertension , heart failure, borderline diabetes, history of arrhythmia , thyroid removed, arthritis .
Complains of severe back pain, numbness in hands and feet, unsteady on feet (needs walker), incontinence, signs of dementia.
My Question:
Seemed better on previous medication regime: Norvasc, Lanoxin, Spironolactone, Levothyroxine.
Worse on current medication regime: Metoprolol, Benazepril, Isorb Mono Tab, Spironolactone, Simvastatin, Levothyroxine.
I'm 48 year old male, I had very high untreated hypertension for I don't know how long. I went to the doctor and he prescribed Metoprol 100mg., Lisinopril 25mg., & Norvasc 10mg. daily. Also 1/2 hydrochlorithizide 25mg every other day. Before this there were never ED problems, but since there has been. Are there any other medications to lower blood pressure without this side effect? As of now the hypertension is under control with these meds.
I was diagnosed with hypertension 15 days ago. I was first put on Lisinopril which after 10 days did not bring my blood pressure down. At which point my doctor wanted to put me on Coreg CR. I have asthma, and have been suffering somewhat from shortness of breath so I had concerns being put on a beta blocker. So he put me on Norvasc. I have been on that since May 29th. My blood pressures are still running somewhat high at times. The problem is the diastolic and the heart rate.
Hi, Im already taking Norvasc 5 Mg and Lisinopril 12.5 Mg for my Hypertension. My Dr. wants to bring in another Blood Pressure pill ( clonidine) If i spelled that right. Do any of you all take this combo?? Just wondering if all of these made your blood pressure drop too low? Thanks for input!
It was decided to add Norvasc 5mg INSTEAD of Nifedipine, since Norvasc was used/tolerated well in the past. Began taking Norvasc 5mg along with Lorsartan 100mg and Atenolol 25mg (all 1x daily) approximately 3 days ago, and the blood pressure is still running extremely high. This morning reading was 186/85 and tonight 176/110!!! Worried that this can be dangerous. What should be done? How long until the BP goes to a "normal" range? Does the doctor need to increase the Norvasc dosage?
Choletsrol was 5,6, LDL= 3,5 , HDL =1,42, b on 05/05/2009 i did another test in different lab, results were Cholesterol= 6.9, LDL=4,90, HDL=1,20. I do not take any drug for cholesterol,have started using fermented red rice. I am still smoking.

Hello, I've been taking Lotrel 5/20 for the past 5 years to control my hypertension. However, based on my latest blood pressure readings, I think I may need a stronger dose. My question is...how does the doctor determine which would be more effective for me: increasing my dose to 5/40 or increasing it to 10/20? Is there a rule of thumb to determine which of the meds in Lotrel should be increased? I thank you for your assistance.
My internist just lowers my Norvasc meds by cutting them in half I am 82 and have hypertension for 50 yrs...I read the term is hypokinesia.

I was diagnosed with hypertension/high BP in June when the nurse at work sent me to ER with a BP of 210/120. I was immediately put on Norvasc 10mg and HCTZ 25mg daily. My pressure came down to 160/80 and after seeing my doc he said come back in 6 months. After questioning why I had high blood pressure and not getting any answers I asked to see another doc and he added Lisinopril 10mg and said come back in 6 months. Since then BP has been steady at 130's/40's.
Two quick questions: is there a difference between high blood pressure and hypertension (I noticed there are 2 different topics listed here) Also, I began taking 12.5mg of atenolol 2x/day - it's only my second day, so in total I took 3 pills. I noticed a feeling of calm come over me, however, I was told it might make me sleepy. I had the opposite reaction.
I get a quick flash of bright light in the outer corner of my vision in my right eye. It is very fast and only happens sometimes. Usually while or after watching TV. Female, 54 yo. Wear glasses for distance (nearsighted). Currently have hypertension. Treatment is Norvasc 5mg.
During the last 4 months of pregnancy my resting pulse stayed between 90-120 bpm, but I did not have hypertension until the last couple of weeks and it was only 144/85 and 135/91. In the couple of days after giving birth I got a UTI at the hospital and my blood pressure rose to 155/106. I was watched for postpartum pre-eclampsia a few days and released only to be admitted to a closer hospital that evening with a bp of 166/115.
It has been working for me without questions. I am on Cholesterol meds and hypertension meds(Metoprolol, Altace and Norvasc) which I have been taking for the last two years. Recently I used some viagra two hours before an encounter with my date. I started drinking after the taking the Viagra. The viagra did not work....I took another one and waited awhile and it still didn't work...I took one more and waited a while with no results....
I have been experincing weak ejaculation for the past 2 years, I am on hypertension tablets such as Betolac, Norvasc, Diruetic tablets, Cardiprin, ,Zoccor and Glucofege (Hope spelling is correct) everyday for the past 10 years. I also experience weak urinating for the past 3 years too, I have also passed out stones twice.
If your parents had high blood pressure, you probably just got unlucky. Genetic hypertension is hard to avoid.
Excess weight, sodium sensitivity, lack of exercise, lack of sleep, stress, etc. can all raise your blood pressure.
Talk to your doctor before you do anything, but I'd suggest taking garlic pills, eating oatmeal once a day, 30 minutes of daily exercise, getting sleep and finding a happy hobby to help you unwind.
5mg this changed nothing… now I have started to take norvasc 5mg on top of avalide my blood pressure has changed a little but mostly in my diastolic number on avg now 145-135/60-50… is this good that my diastolic keep going down with the medication however my top number doesn’t seem to go down very much? I also get the feeling that my doctor doesn’t seem 2 care much.. since its been two years now.. and its still not right??
I was on Norvasc but my Dr. changed to Cardizem, I have trouble swalloing and the Norvasc dissolved in my mouth quickly to make it easier to take, the Cardizem Er is a big capsule that is hard to take, should I ask my Dr to go back on Norvasc?? they both seem to work equally well....
