Avatar f tn Yes I tested for all 24 hrs and it was kept in the fridge the entire time. Only out to fill and transport to hospital. Sodium is fine but potassium in slightly low. Never had a stim test. Thank you for responding!
9648 tn?1290091207 m basing my statements on both my own efforts and efforts of others to obtain (unsuccessfully) HPLC testing in this country. The doctors I asked were involved in multiple trials and barely even knew of the existance of these tests. It's possible that has changed in the last couple of years (I doubt it :) ) and just wanted to give a heads up before someone felt that they weren't getting available tests. Of course, I recommend anyone giving it the ole' American try.

Avatar n tn Two months ago, I had what I think was a bout of food poisoning. My digestive system hasn't been right since. It began lower abdominal discomfort, and some tenderness by the hips. Bowel movements alternated from const. to diarrhea. Went to the doctor, and thought it may be a pulled muscle, since it felt like one. He found no masses and checked for hernia. Did bloodwork: liver ALT were about 5 points higher (51) than normal range, bad cholest.
Avatar m tn This paper btw seems very consistent with other similar studies, including those that show serum riba levels (via HPLC testing) help deterimine both RVR and SVR. Unfortunately HPLC testing for serum riba levels is not available except in trial situations, but if it were, then one could reasonably pre-dose and keep increasing the riba dose until a set serum riba level was met.
Avatar f tn These 35 patients had urinary free cortisol determined by both HPLC and competitive binding methods. The efficacy of the HPLC assay using cortisol alone was equivalent to that of the competitive binding assay; 22 of 29 (76%) patients had increased cortisol. Cortisone also aided in the diagnosis; 25 of 29 (86%) had increased cortisone. Twenty-seven of the 29 (93%) patients had either both cortisone and cortisol (n = 19) or at least 1 of the 2 (n = 8) increased.
Avatar f tn Hi Swish, Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum. I'm glad you found us and posted your question here. As usual our Remar has offered some good information. UDT (urinary Drug Test) is a chemical science - either well or poorly understood by PMP. Chemistry was never my strong suit - and that's what UDTs are all about. It depends on the type of UDT your PMP utilized.
Avatar m tn Persons who are most at risk for contracting and spreading hepatitis C are those who share needles for injecting drugs and health care workers or emergency workers who may be exposed to contaminated blood. But actual ribavirin concentrations achieved in the body after dosing may be more relevant than the amount administered, according to a French study published in the May 2008 issue of Hepatology.
1225178 tn?1318980604 I know when I first started tx and asked for advice, lots of people told me to drink lots of water, have fat with my Riba, and either I read it elsewhere, or a few people here told me to not have much fiber at the same time I took my Riba. I can't find anything lately... especially my brain, so if anybody on here knows where I got this from, I would really appreciate it if you would remind me!
Avatar n tn My doctor ordered a dexamethasone suppression test last month and this is the test results I am questioning. My 8 am cortisol level is 1.2. And my ACTH plasma is <1.1. My endocrinologist is from major hospital but I have not been able to reach her by phone- her office does not return calls and I don't see her til end of Sept. I am 65 by the way and have been feeling extremely fatigued lately- should I be concerned? ( I have a 2.
144210 tn?1273088782 I have just this minute e-mailed my specialist asking for him to look at a possible extension over and above 24 weeks (3a early cirrhosis, 1 x relapse), and/or tapering at the end of tx. If he isn't agreeable to a tx extension, I'd love him to, at least, give me an extra month or so with the view to taper, and will let you know his thoughts. I'm hoping there may have been discussions on 'relapsers' at the San Fransisco conference.
Avatar f tn Patients and methods Serum ribavirin concentration of 183 chronic hepatitis C patients (genotype 1) treated with pegylated interferon-α2b plus ribavirin for 48 weeks was prospectively measured by HPLC at weeks 4, 12, 24, 36 and 48. Patients with undetectable serum hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA 24 weeks after the end of treatment were designated as having sustained virological response (SVR).
158241 tn?1237719523 Eleven patients (35%) achieved SVR, whereas 20 (65%) were non-responders. The median ribavirin plasma concentration at W4 (1.90 mg/l) varied from 1.62 mg/l in patients with subsequent non-response to 2.28 mg/l in sustained responders (P=0.007). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis indicated that the 2.01 mg/l threshold gave the best sensitivity and specificity (73% and 80%, respectively, area under the curve =0.80; P=0.007).
Avatar m tn BTW , if you are checking out Vit B12 you might as well take a look at your Vit A. VITAMIN A DEFICIENCY NEGATIVELY AFFECTS THE RESPONSE TO ANTIVIRAL TREATMENT IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC HEPATITIS C Background and aim: Vitamin A deficiency has been associated with enhanced susceptibility to virtually all types of infections, through a modulating action on innate and adaptive immunity.
Avatar m tn ve seen all of this excitement about Acai Berry and Colon Cleanse, etc. with regard to weight loss, much more energy and improved memory. I haven't taken any yet because I wanted to do some research on it first, as any good HepC patient should do. It appears that the Acai Berry product or Resveratrol products contain the equivalent of 1500 glasses of red wine in one dose? Holy ****! Not good for the liver! I searched the HepC boards for any mention of it and don't see any comments.
Avatar m tn Do you read the stuff you post? This looks rather weak insofar as linking Tylenol and Coffee with liver damage, in my opinion. I wouldn't hesitate to have a cup or 2 of coffee and a couple of Tylenol based on this "study"(?). Their own expert said it would be hast to draw any conclusions from the study of bacteria. I have tried to isolate a few salient points.. Researchers performed the study on E.
Avatar m tn Liggett, director of the cardiopulmonary genomics program at the University of Maryland, and senior author of a report on the discoveries published in the Feb. 12 online issue of Science. "But we have not been working with a full knowledge of the genetics of rhinoviruses. Now that we have the full complement of known ones, we see there are subfamilies of rhinoviruses clustering together. The hope is that there could be a drug for each subfamily.
Avatar f tn Urine was collected for 24 h after consumption of each treatment for analysis of CGA and metabolites by HPLC/LC-MS. The amount of CGA and metabolites recovered after consumption of combined coffee-milk (40% ± 27%) was consistently lower in all subjects compared to that of coffee alone (68% ± 20%). Concluding, the simultaneous consumption of milk and coffee may impair the bioavailability of coffee CGA in humans.
Avatar f tn This person may want to have a very recent pre-tx pcr and then others at 2 and 4 weeks and make a stop-go decision. In addition, early and frequent cbc are needed to evaluate effects on those values as well. I understand that some of these options might not be available to everyone, depending on insurance coverage or, in your case, customary treatment protocols in Canada. By the way, one of the top hepatologist is in the group where you treat - Jenny Heathcote.
Avatar m tn I’ve been doing a lot of reading on so many research papers on various diseases and trying hard to see patterns or correlate them. It’s really difficult but it seems there are patterns. I’ve tried to summarize it below. If you look at the different digestive conditions and gut autoimmune diseases, such as IBD, IBS, Coeliac disease, gluten sensitivity etc., they are related in a way because it’s happening in the gut (small & large intestine).
Avatar m tn after 2 weeks of checking again my ast was 106 and alt 320 ... and thereafter another week they went up to ast- 116 and alt = 400 , i paniced and though what is it... what is it ..... here im trying to do everything thats good for my body and liver but whats going on .... then thanx to the mystic law of the universe i tumbeled upon this study . Avatar m tn t feeling good so I kept him home, He took a nap and woke up w/ a rash everywhere except for his neck and face and a 102.5 fever. When he tried to get up his knee hurt tremendously and he couldn't walk. Dr. tested him for strep and decided it was Scarlet fever, possibly Rheumatic fever. With his heart murmur we have been going through those procedures as well. His knee started working w/in a week and then he was fine.
