Nitroglycerin patch drug

Common Questions and Answers about Nitroglycerin patch drug

nitrostat

Avatar n tn ed is correct nitro dilates vessels. I take a nitrate (isosorbide) for more than 6 years 3 times before going to gym for workout. My blood pressure does not drop between intervals...in fact I was told to have intervals of nitrate free period. It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....
Avatar f tn If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
Avatar n tn You should talk to your doctor as you may be a good candidate for a low dose nitroglycerin patch which opens the coronary vessels to increase oxygen supply to the heart. How are you currently managing your COPD? What medications and inhalers are you using? are you on home O2?
Avatar m tn I only take isosorbide prior to a workout, and nitro when engaged in an activity that brings on angina. I understand your doctors are suggesting taking isosorbide daily as aschemia does not always produce angina even though the heart cells are not getting sufficient blood supply. This can lead to a silent heart attack so the medication is recommended continuously whether there is angina or not and older people in general are likely to have a silent heart attack.
Avatar m tn I'm a Raynaud's Phenomen patients who has the CREST syndrome and i use the nitroglycerin patches to control my raynaud's. Can you tell me if the patches used in this way would cause your acid reflux to be worse. When i took the lowest dose of nitroglycerin patches 0.1 didn't notice any but had to move up and now i do. Will this be something that my body may take an adjustment period for before i notice a different of not having symptoms again?
Avatar n tn t get into doctor before January but he has put me on a nitro patch. The patch makes me feel horrendous and I am thinking of stopping. I feel better off it than on it. So long as I have my nitro spray at all times am I safe to stop taking it.
1098952 tn?1270309713 If a person with HCM were to take nitroglycerin, the symptoms would worsen and the nitroglycerin could even cause a catastrophic deterioration in the person's condition".
Avatar n tn My 54 year old "healthy" husband received a stent yesterday due to a 99% LAD blockage! He is the typical type A personality and this only adds to his already stress overload. I realize we are lucky he is still here and thankful for medical technology. I am just concerned that this will forever be a constant worry for him. Any suggestions of how I can help him. Also I asked his MD about having nitroglycerin to have on hand and he said that this wasn't necessary???
Avatar f tn I was placed on zocor, Metoprolol and nitroglycerin patch while hospitalized. The first night I wasnt feeling well woke up at 1 am with the sweats and chest discomfort. I was given a blood thinner and other meds I began to feel better in about a half an hour give or take( to where I could get back to sleep). The following day I had the nuclear and echo gram test.
Avatar m tn My cardiologist has me taking 75 mg, of Lopressor, 360 mg, of verapamil, .4 mg nitroglycerin patch. And now he wants to add 10 mg of Ramapril ( Altace ) a day, my recent cardiosrams have have shown sinus bradycardia. That's before starting the Ramapril , I'm just very leary about starting the Ramapril in first of all the highest dose there is, and second of all it could further lower my heart rate and send my heart in to an AV Block that could lead to many things not good !
712042 tn?1254569209 This is specifically to Cleveland Doctor age 34 who has been so helpful with my prior questions/concerns. I'm doing well with another 0.4 nitro patch added. I may not be jumping hurdles or back on my bike but I feel like I can breathe and no chest tightness. I've used additional nitro spray only twice during these past 3 weeks. So bizarre in the non-existence of any other health issues and clear coronaries; who knows why the microvessels are mis-behaving!
Avatar f tn amitryptyline, noritryptline, bentyl, levisin, nitro patch, nitroglycerin, toprol xl, wellbutrin xl, neurontin just to name a few. I have consistent RUQ pain that gets worse when trying to eat. I am nauseas almost every day which I take zofran for most of the time that works. Some days after eating I vomit, or have dirreah. Avatar f tn When they injected the dye into the artery they could not see anything. However, when nitroglycerin was administered everything showed up...no blockage. I also have chest pains and shortness of breath and fatigue along with the coldness spreading to my legs along with leg heaviness, cramps and weakness when walking. I have been referred to a cardiologist. What is the treatment for severe vasospasms? Could this mean I am having vasospasms everywhere including coronary vasospasms?
Avatar n tn I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs. I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low. So I stopped using my nitroglycerin for about 48 hours so I can take the Viagra.
1006065 tn?1251478669 You may need treatment with different blood pressure medications and may just have hypertension to begin with. They will usually administer a nitroglycerin patch in the ER to get your pressure down. If that is not successful you may be admitted. I advise immediate medical treatment. Better safe than sorry.
712042 tn?1254569209 I am nitro dependent 24/7 and have posted here before regarding my diagnosis severe cardiac microvascular dysfunction. I battle this non-obstructive macrovessel angina everyday wearing two 0.6mg patches and supplementing at least every two days with up to two nitro 0.4 mg sprays to pull me out of an episode. This top amount of .20 mg is the same amount of IV nitro used during my arrest in May '08 to 'stabilize' me ( EF was 64). I used to be able to do well in '08 on just 0.
Avatar m tn The pain lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. I have been prescribed nitroglycerin to take as needed for chest pain and this medicine surely helps. I've had several EKGs and cardiac enzymes done which were all normal. I also had a threadmill/stress test done which was normal. My cardiologist thinks the the probability of me having an occluded/blocked coronary artery is very low.
Avatar n tn Is that normal procedure?
Avatar f tn t afford to buy my own generic right now.Does anyone know of a generic equivalent patch that the drug company will give me for free?
Avatar n tn The amount of time it takes for the amount of drug in the body to reduce by 50% is called the half-life. It takes approximately five to six half lives for the drug to be cleared from the body. The half-life for fentanyl patches is 9.5 to 12.4 hours. Multiply that by 6 and it could take up to 74.4 hours to clear the drug. You can do the math. Fentanyl lozenges-approx. 7 hours. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Asacol is not particularly recommended in patients with renal damage, but the issue is that alternative drug therapies may not be as effective or may have varied side effects. Nevertheless it is advisable to replace it with nicotine patches and one or the other newer drug modalities that bypasses the kidneys to prevent it from further damage. It would be best to discuss this with your treating gastroenterologist. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
326947 tn?1252591233 PLEASE DONT START TAKING THIS DRUG.....THIS IS THE WORST DRUG TO BE ON!! IF SOMEBODY WOULD HAVE TOLD ME THAT I WOULD BE TOTALLY DEPENDENT ON THIS DRUG, I WOULD HAVE WALKED THE HECK AWAY.....TELL YOUR DOC TO FIND YOU ANOTHER DRUG, BUT IF YOU CAN DEAL WITH THE PAIN, THEN PLLLLLLEASE BY ALL MEANS, DONT GET ON ANY NARCOTICS, THEY ARE THE FREAKING WORST!!!!
Avatar n tn The doctor said the left heart was okay but found a narrowing in the right heart which caused coronary spasms during the test. IV nitroglycerin during the test stopped the spasms and dilated the vessel. He did not mention any other problems and recommended sublingual nitroglycerin to treat the spasms as they occur.
Avatar m tn I was wondering if there are any drug to drug interactions? and if Cosamin was the best supplement to use to help ease the pain and help cartilage rebuild? Avatar m tn Hi, I was taking 30 mgs of oxycontin per day. I stared the fentanyl patch 5 days ago. After a couple of hours, I felt it had some effect, mostly a mental type of euphoric feeling. But then after, I´m really not sure if it´s working. I´m on the second day of my second patch. Wanted to know if this is normal? Could it take up to 5-6 days to feel a full effect from them.
Avatar m tn The most common side effects of Viagra and the other PDE5 inhibitors are flushing and headache. PDE5 drugs can cause dangerously low blood pressure if they are taken with nitroglycerin or other nitrate medications that are used to treat chest pain and heart disease. In patients that cannot tolerate PDE5 inhibitors there are other treatments available. The drug alprostadil (Caverject, Edex, Muse) also increases blood flow to the penis leading to an erection.
