Nitroglycerin grains 1 150

Common Questions and Answers about Nitroglycerin grains 1 150

nitrostat

Avatar m tn Others assume it is closer to 7 to one. For the first assumption, your dosage would of 150 - 200 would be 1 1/2 to 2 grains. For the latter case, your 150 - 200 mcg would be 2 - 2 2/3 grains. Your doctor is wrong to say that few need two grains. I think that is clear from your recent lab tests. Your FT4 is too low in the range and your Free T3 is way too low. No wonder you have symptoms. I currently take 3 grains daily, and I am not the only Forum member to do so, by a long shot.
1139187 tn?1355706647 Bruce....... 1 grain = 60 mg; 2.5 grains is 150 mg, not mcg, and each grain has 38 mcg T4 and 9 mcg T3, so you aren't getting a full 150 mcg of either. Your dose isn't so high as it seems.
572651 tn?1530999357 I have nitroquik - sublingual nitroglycerin - to take if I have angina pains - this morning about 5 am I was miserable and couldn't tell if it was heart or ms symptoms and I took one. As always it stopped my discomfort, depressed my already low blood pressure and I went to sleep for about 3 hours. I've used nitroquik for the past 3 months or so and it always stops the pain and gives me relief within minutes.
Avatar f tn i have to take blood pressure medication daily - i take at least three different types. i take atenolol (100 mg) and norvasc ( 5 mg) in the morning and clonodine (.4 mg) three times daily. my doctors have told me that if my bottom number reaches 100 to go to er, i also have nitroglycerin to take when my heart feels "funky". you start out with 1 pill; wait 5 minutes, if not better then take another one; wait 5 minutes take another one and call 911. hope this helps.
1098952 tn?1270309713 If a person with HCM were to take nitroglycerin, the symptoms would worsen and the nitroglycerin could even cause a catastrophic deterioration in the person's condition".
Avatar f tn In addition to protein, be sure to eat lots of veggies. Switch to whole grains, and limit fruit to 1-2 servings/day. If you drink sodas, stop and that, alone will go a long way toward helping your lose. In addition, eliminating white bread, rice and sugary foods will also be necessary. The first thing you should do, if you haven't already is have your doctor run some simple blood tests to check your thyroid function.
Avatar m tn Anyway if you are getting 150mg (2 1/2 grains) of the med, I expect that it is giving you 2 1/2 times the 39 mcg of T4 and 2 1/2 times the 9 mcg of T3, for a total of 97.5 mcg of T4 and 22.5 mcg of T3? That is a pretty hefty dose. I am taking 3 grains of Armour thyroid daily. I get it from a local pharmacy. The cost is low enough that it is cheaper to pay cash than use my insurance deductible. I just got a 3 month supply of 270 tablets for a total cash cost of $45.99.
Avatar f tn 5 grains completely at this point. My only options seem to be 2 1/8 grains (yes, I am going there) or slightly below 2 grains. Most recently I tired reducing by 30 mg a week, by going to 105 on Thursday on Sundays. This did not seem to change things for me, and after about 4 weeks of that, I started to feel tightness in the lungs, so stopped the 105 reduction.
Avatar n tn It depends on the dose, of course. Someone taking 1.5 grains, for example, would have no trouble taking 2/3 in the morning and 1/3 in the afternoon if they had 1 grain tablets. My pill splitter only does two halves...sometimes more "equal" than others...but I can usually mange to split those funny shaped Levoxyl tablets into quarters. I've ruined a few tablets doing it, but practice makes perfect!
1313025 tn?1274542577 s only been 4 weeks at 3 grains, I can see what happens over the next couple of weeks as far as symptoms go. Would either of you try to increase up to 3 1/2 or 4 grains with these kind of labs? Thanks again.
Avatar f tn Two grains , or 120 mg, would get you to 76 of T4 and 18 of T3, which is considerable less than current T4 and slightly more than current T3. So you really need 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 grains of NP Thyroid ( 135 - 1 50 mg ) to stay where you are. I suggest that you not let the NP try to use the conversion tables to continue with the 90 + 15 dose. The conversion tables are very misleading. I can explain that if you want, but I would just stick with the above argument.
Avatar n tn I have taken taken thyroid medication for 25 years and have been on 1.75 grains of Armour thyroid for a number of years. Recently it's effectiveness for me declined. According to my Allergist and lab results (a high Antithyroglobulin Ab and my nutritionist, but negative Thyroid Peroxidase Ab; TSH 0.9), I could be producing antibodies to the natural thyroid so he suggested a switch to Synthroid and Cytomel. At the time I was also showing some signs of too much thyroid medication.
Avatar f tn d want to start a whole lot lower. 1.5 grains is a significant drop in T4, from 150 mcg to about 56 mcg. But, you are also adding in about 14 mcg of T3. So, overall, adjusting for the higher potency of T3, you are still low of the 150 mcg T4 you've been taking. That being said, T3 can take a little getting used to, so if you get a T3 "rush" after taking your meds, you might ask your doctor about cutting back briefly (to say 0.75 gr in the am and 0.37 gr in the pm).
Avatar f tn If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
439675 tn?1219779289 My doctor switched me to armour after years of being on synthroid 150mcg. she put me on 60mg or armour and no change. my TSH is still 14.0!!! So, I did some research and most people didn't see a change with armour until they were on 3-6 grains ( a grain is 60mg) so now I take 3 grains, which is 3X the synthroid i was on...I am feeling better but I still may need more....give it a few weeks and keep increasing until you feel good again.
Avatar m tn I only take isosorbide prior to a workout, and nitro when engaged in an activity that brings on angina. I understand your doctors are suggesting taking isosorbide daily as aschemia does not always produce angina even though the heart cells are not getting sufficient blood supply. This can lead to a silent heart attack so the medication is recommended continuously whether there is angina or not and older people in general are likely to have a silent heart attack.
Avatar f tn I can now tolerate over 100 per day but not more than 150. I cut out grains, pasta, sugar, potato, dried fruit for example. Before meals take DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice root) and papaya enzyme After meals chew cinammon gum for 30 minutes and sip ginger tea Slippery elm bark powder a few times per day. ( mix 1 tsp with water and eat). I no longer need the above remedies unless I am having a flare up which I get once in awhile. Hope this helps and good luck! Keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Some do well on 1 1/2 grains, some need 3 grains. TSH is a very imprecise way to balance thyroid hormones; FT3 and FT4 will be much more revealing once we can interpret with ranges. Are you splitting the daily dose and taking it in the morning and early afternoon? A lot of us do that with desiccated to avoid a single spike in T3, the active thyroid hormone. Dosing twice a day helps distribute the effect of T3 over the course of the day. Were you tested for TgAb and/or TPOAb?
Avatar m tn Her doctor recommended to take 2 grains a day, she started with 0.5 grains initially, and started going up. I made a mistake on her current dose, she is currently taking 1.5 grains per day... she divides it 0.75 once in the morning and once in the evening. She started in early March, so it has been more than just a few weeks. She is afraid that it is giving her heart problems. She hasn't been tested since she started taking NatureThroid, so she does not know her numbers yet.
Avatar n tn I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs. I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low. So I stopped using my nitroglycerin for about 48 hours so I can take the Viagra.
Avatar n tn Your new dose, as I understand it, would be 1/2 grain of Armour, which is 19.5 mcg of T4 and 4.5 mcg of T3, plus 150 mcg of T4. That would be only 169.5 of T4 and 4.5 of T3. Expressed as T4 equivalent, that would be equivalent to approx. 187.5 (169.5+(4.5 times 4)). If my understanding is correct, that would be a large reduction in med.
Avatar n tn So, you are on 90 mg of desiccated thyroid (total) each day, but are dividing it by 3 doses at 30 mg (1/2 grain) at each dose. And you use to be on 150 mcg of Synthroid, so you are trying to see if this is enough desiccated to equal the amount of the 150 mcg. of Synthroid that you use to be on? Is this Correct or not?
Avatar n tn ed is correct nitro dilates vessels. I take a nitrate (isosorbide) for more than 6 years 3 times before going to gym for workout. My blood pressure does not drop between intervals...in fact I was told to have intervals of nitrate free period. It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....
Avatar f tn #1 Do at least 150 minutes of moderately-paced cardiovascular activity each week. Select activities that shed the most calories during your workout session. For example, walking at 3.5 mph burns only around 300 calories an hour for a 155-lb. person, but jogging at 5 mph increases the calorie burn to nearly 600 calories an hour. If jogging is uncomfortable, try cycling indoors or out. Pedaling at 12 to 13.9 mph also burns around 600 calories for a 155-lb. person.
