Avatar n tn I was diagnose with clogged arteries over a year ago. I even had a stent put in because one of my arteries was ecluded. I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs. I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low.
572651 tn?1530999357 My bp is also low - averages 90/60 but the nitro is for the angina which is not bp related. I find it really knocks me out for a while after I get over the headache ..... If my pain is really MS related and not cardio related, I'm wondering what the nitro is really doing.............
Avatar m tn Nitrate Medications for heart disease - The combination of vitamin C with nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, or isosorbide mononitrate reduces the occurrence of nitrate tolerance. Nitrate tolerance is when the body builds up a tolerance to the medicine so that it no longer has its desired effect. People taking nitrate-containing medications generally follow a 12 hours on, 12 hours off schedule to avoid this tolerance.
Avatar m tn What would happen if you rubbed pure nitroglycerin on your skin? I'd like to know the symptoms on and below the skin. I know that nitroglycerin is used for anginas, but I also know that it's generally mixed with something else, so I'm curious about how well pure nitroglycerin would work and what it would do. And if you had a vial of pure nitroglycerin, what could you mix it with to be able to use it as ointment?
Avatar f tn What can we do as pregnant women for relaxation ? Being pregnant restricts us from a lot like Jacuzzis, long hot showers or baths, laying comfortably lol any suggestions ?
Avatar f tn If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
Avatar m tn These meds can include drugs such as bentyl, nitroglycerin and certain specific calcium channel blockers. Librax is typically not suggested for either contdition as it can result in relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter and an increase in reflux into the esophagus. Many drugs affect the LES and they should be avoided. There are also foods that can relax the LES or increase the amount of acid produced, so dietary modifications are also suggested.
Avatar m tn m a heart patient myself, but no nitroglycerin for me.
Avatar n tn ed is correct nitro dilates vessels. I take a nitrate (isosorbide) for more than 6 years 3 times before going to gym for workout. My blood pressure does not drop between intervals...in fact I was told to have intervals of nitrate free period. It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....
Avatar m tn The pain lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. I have been prescribed nitroglycerin to take as needed for chest pain and this medicine surely helps. I've had several EKGs and cardiac enzymes done which were all normal. I also had a threadmill/stress test done which was normal. My cardiologist thinks the the probability of me having an occluded/blocked coronary artery is very low.
Avatar n tn Female age 50 ... I was being treated for pneumonia with 10 days of levaquin and lodrain 24 D. On the fifth day I started having moderate and continual pain between my sholder blades in the upper back and heartburn (no heartburn for 25 years previously) and extreme fatigue. I thought it was the pneumonia and didn't go to the doctor for five days. My blood test then showed troponin was high, doctor said I may have had a heart attack. Doctor wanted a stress test ... which showed normal.
Avatar m tn My anxiety is extreme so I have been doing 2 to 4 meditation and relaxation sessions a day for 3 weeks. After a few I felt better, most I felt nothing and one greatly increased my anxiety. I have tied CBT and all the other ways to calm the nervous system and am scared this one is not working so far. Even though I had a brief time of relief after a few I am still in total anxiety nervous system hell 24/7. shouldn't I be feeling some relief by now.
Avatar m tn Does anybody have any relaxation techniques. I suffer from benign pvc's and anxiety to accompany it. Just some days i would like to learn how to relax and get through my pvc episodes.
Avatar n tn You should see a doctor, preferably a cardiologist, to discuss possible alternatives/substitutes for Nikoran OD. He/she will be able to give you the proper dosing, make sure there are no contraindications with your other co-morbidities, and make sure there are no unwarranted interactions with other drugs you are currently taking.
Avatar f tn I am 53 female w/SLE, systemic lupus for almost 10 years. Barrett's esophagus, GERD, gastic paralysis, fibromyalgi, chronic fatigue, Sicca syndrome, list goes on.....This is something new...sudden very severe shooting pain going up right side of neck, carotid area, sometimes into ear, but not always. Avatar m tn He had a heart catherization recently and was found to have several blocked arteries. He had 2 stents put in 2011. Are the risks too great for my husband at his age with insulin dependent diabetes for 19 years to have open heart surgery? His cardiologist so far has put him a medication regimen to try to help with his blocked arteries. The only sympton he has had with the placing of the stents was Chest Pressure, no other symptoms.
Avatar f tn According to studies done, older age and obesity are 2 of the strongest risk factors for uncontrolled hypertension. Other causes for raised pressure can be kidney disorders and phaeochromocytoma. Hope these have been ruled out.
Avatar n tn I assume the diagnosis of hyperreactive responses not only to the constrictor effects of acetylcholine, but also the dilator effects of nitroglycerin were detected diffusely in the epicardial coronary arteries of patients with coronary spastic angina. The goal of treatment is to control chest pain and to prevent heart attack. The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your input, and I hope everything checks out well for you.
Avatar m tn I'm a Raynaud's Phenomen patients who has the CREST syndrome and i use the nitroglycerin patches to control my raynaud's. Can you tell me if the patches used in this way would cause your acid reflux to be worse. When i took the lowest dose of nitroglycerin patches 0.1 didn't notice any but had to move up and now i do. Avatar m tn she failed the stress test and was referred for angiogram the same day. She had multiple blockages at 90%, and was admitted to the hospital. She stayed in the hospital for 4 days, due to the doctors where afraid to release her home. She had a double bypass (left descending coronary artery and left circumflex coronary artery). She healed well, but 2 weeks ago while at home she experienced chest pain. She went by ambulance to the hospital.
Avatar n tn You should talk to your doctor as you may be a good candidate for a low dose nitroglycerin patch which opens the coronary vessels to increase oxygen supply to the heart. How are you currently managing your COPD? What medications and inhalers are you using? are you on home O2?
Avatar f tn with the ultrasound, what does that mean, there was no uterine lining visible? Or they just thought the uterine lining looked normal? If they simply sent you home, that is very indifferent diagnosis. See if you can find a doctor who will order you a uterine MRI.
805943 tn?1238093647 Nitro can help some forms of esophageal spasm. Nitroglycerin is used with esophageal spasms (GERD). It is the one non heart related illness that nitroglycerin works in. However, that doesn't rule out a concomitant heart condition. Nitroglycerin is a vasodilator not only for your heart vessels but for the vascular system which then subsquently lowers your blood pressure. It even dilates the vessels in the brain which then usually gives the side effect of the headache also.
