Nitroglycerin for hypertension

Common Questions and Answers about Nitroglycerin for hypertension

nitrostat

Avatar f tn Cardiologist said I had myocardial bridge (left artery), hypertension, and thick wall. I was put on beta blockers and have nitro for when the severe pain comes back. This happened 5 days ago. I'm still having sharp chest pains. I can't walk at a normal pace or stand for long periods of time without my left arm tingling. I called the RN for the cardiologist and she told me to take aspirin every 6 hrs to help with the pain. This isn't helping.
Avatar m tn The pain lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. I have been prescribed nitroglycerin to take as needed for chest pain and this medicine surely helps. I've had several EKGs and cardiac enzymes done which were all normal. I also had a threadmill/stress test done which was normal. My cardiologist thinks the the probability of me having an occluded/blocked coronary artery is very low.
Avatar n tn You should talk to your doctor as you may be a good candidate for a low dose nitroglycerin patch which opens the coronary vessels to increase oxygen supply to the heart. How are you currently managing your COPD? What medications and inhalers are you using? are you on home O2?
Avatar n tn I was diagnose with clogged arteries over a year ago. I even had a stent put in because one of my arteries was ecluded. I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs. I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low.
572651 tn?1530999357 My bp is also low - averages 90/60 but the nitro is for the angina which is not bp related. I find it really knocks me out for a while after I get over the headache ..... If my pain is really MS related and not cardio related, I'm wondering what the nitro is really doing.............
Avatar m tn Nitrate Medications for heart disease - The combination of vitamin C with nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, or isosorbide mononitrate reduces the occurrence of nitrate tolerance. Nitrate tolerance is when the body builds up a tolerance to the medicine so that it no longer has its desired effect. People taking nitrate-containing medications generally follow a 12 hours on, 12 hours off schedule to avoid this tolerance.
Avatar f tn According to studies done, older age and obesity are 2 of the strongest risk factors for uncontrolled hypertension. Other causes for raised pressure can be kidney disorders and phaeochromocytoma. Hope these have been ruled out.
Avatar m tn What would happen if you rubbed pure nitroglycerin on your skin? I'd like to know the symptoms on and below the skin. I know that nitroglycerin is used for anginas, but I also know that it's generally mixed with something else, so I'm curious about how well pure nitroglycerin would work and what it would do. And if you had a vial of pure nitroglycerin, what could you mix it with to be able to use it as ointment?
Avatar f tn If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
Avatar m tn m a heart patient myself, but no nitroglycerin for me.
1098952 tn?1270309713 If a person with HCM were to take nitroglycerin, the symptoms would worsen and the nitroglycerin could even cause a catastrophic deterioration in the person's condition".
Avatar n tn ed is correct nitro dilates vessels. I take a nitrate (isosorbide) for more than 6 years 3 times before going to gym for workout. My blood pressure does not drop between intervals...in fact I was told to have intervals of nitrate free period. It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....
Avatar n tn Female age 50 ... I was being treated for pneumonia with 10 days of levaquin and lodrain 24 D. On the fifth day I started having moderate and continual pain between my sholder blades in the upper back and heartburn (no heartburn for 25 years previously) and extreme fatigue. Doctor wanted a stress test ... which showed normal.

Avatar n tn You should see a doctor, preferably a cardiologist, to discuss possible alternatives/substitutes for Nikoran OD. He/she will be able to give you the proper dosing, make sure there are no contraindications with your other co-morbidities, and make sure there are no unwarranted interactions with other drugs you are currently taking.

Avatar m tn He had a heart catherization recently and was found to have several blocked arteries. He had 2 stents put in 2011. Are the risks too great for my husband at his age with insulin dependent diabetes for 19 years to have open heart surgery? His cardiologist so far has put him a medication regimen to try to help with his blocked arteries. The only sympton he has had with the placing of the stents was Chest Pressure, no other symptoms.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am 44 years old and have just recently been diagnosed with chronic renal failure. I've been dealing with very difficult to control hypertension for about 15 years. I have also been dealing with diabetes for about 5 years. Most of my doctors feel that my hypertension and diabetes are the cause of my kidney failure, however my nephrologist feels that defective kidneys due to heredity are the cause of my hypertension and perhaps my diabetes.
Avatar n tn I assume the diagnosis of hyperreactive responses not only to the constrictor effects of acetylcholine, but also the dilator effects of nitroglycerin were detected diffusely in the epicardial coronary arteries of patients with coronary spastic angina. The goal of treatment is to control chest pain and to prevent heart attack. The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your input, and I hope everything checks out well for you.
Avatar f tn are some few examples) have a large body of evidence in morbidity and mortality benefits (fewer symptoms and disability and live longer) and short-acting nitroglycerin medications are used for symptomatic relief of angina. Isosorbide mononitrate and nicorandil are vasodilators commonly used in chronic stable angina.
Avatar f tn I just landed in the hospital for severe chest pain, racing heart, high blood pressure, severe dry mouth, anxiety, ..also given nitroglycerin...and stress test. stress test normal except for elevated blood pressure.....I had dinner at a restaurant the night before all this, and a lot of these symptoms are the same as MSG poisoning. I was given the diagnosis of " severe indigestion" and sent home on blood pressure meds.
Avatar f tn I had a hemithyroidectomy in May for a lump I found. My sister had papillary carcinoma with uncommon metastasis to the lungs. My pathology came back and showed I had a small papillary carcinoma too. Because I still wanted to have a baby, the doctor decided to leave my other half of the thyroid and just place me on TSH supression. I didn't have any blood work done post surgery, he said that he would just guess the dosage of Synthroid based on my weight.
Avatar m tn I'm a Raynaud's Phenomen patients who has the CREST syndrome and i use the nitroglycerin patches to control my raynaud's.
