Avatar n tn I was diagnose with clogged arteries over a year ago. I even had a stent put in because one of my arteries was ecluded. I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs. I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low.
572651 tn?1530999357 My bp is also low - averages 90/60 but the nitro is for the angina which is not bp related. I find it really knocks me out for a while after I get over the headache ..... If my pain is really MS related and not cardio related, I'm wondering what the nitro is really doing.............
Avatar m tn Nitrate Medications for heart disease - The combination of vitamin C with nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, or isosorbide mononitrate reduces the occurrence of nitrate tolerance. Nitrate tolerance is when the body builds up a tolerance to the medicine so that it no longer has its desired effect. People taking nitrate-containing medications generally follow a 12 hours on, 12 hours off schedule to avoid this tolerance.
Avatar m tn On a separate note, I suffered from anal fissures for 3 years, horrendously painful, like someone shoving a knife up your bum ever time you go for a poo - **** the GTN, go for the diltiazem hydrochloride 2%. I mean, it didn't work for me overall and rid me of the fissures but my bum was very tight and needed surgery. Just don't suffer with it! And also if it happened as a result of anal sex don't beat yourself up about it, no matter what your past you have a spotless future.
Avatar m tn What would happen if you rubbed pure nitroglycerin on your skin? I'd like to know the symptoms on and below the skin. I know that nitroglycerin is used for anginas, but I also know that it's generally mixed with something else, so I'm curious about how well pure nitroglycerin would work and what it would do. And if you had a vial of pure nitroglycerin, what could you mix it with to be able to use it as ointment?
Avatar f tn He is 20 years old and healthy except for this and it is dragging both him and the family down emotionally. We are desparate for suggestions you might have. At this point we are willing to consider anything to find out what is wrong with him. I can send you the long list of details of all the procedures, timelines...a chart of what he has done to try to discover what is wrong. Please help us.
Avatar f tn If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
Avatar n tn s possible that the fissure did not heal completely, or that it was reopened during sex. Surgery for anal fissures will not prevent you from having anal sex. You will just need to give your body plenty of time to heal beforehand. Afterwards, you will have to make sure you use plenty of lubrication, and avoid any type of play that involves "stretching" (large toys, etc).
Avatar m tn m a heart patient myself, but no nitroglycerin for me.
Avatar n tn I never have in past had problems. have had sores in mouth for 9 weeks, been on antivirals for 9 weeks because I want to be, scared herpes but all cultures are negative with mouth sores and genitally, I am waiting for an igg to come back, was with a new man, who is waiting herpes results for 2, I am positive for 1 with igg in past. I did test 10 days after we were together. been to dermatlogist and all say herpes in mouth doesn't last 9 weeks. what about the bumps on my wrist.
1098952 tn?1270309713 If a person with HCM were to take nitroglycerin, the symptoms would worsen and the nitroglycerin could even cause a catastrophic deterioration in the person's condition".
Avatar f tn I've been having blood on the toilet paper for a few weeks now (it's actually been like 8 months), but the bleeding comes and goes. So I sought out a proctologist and she said I have cuts & anal fissures. I just saw her last Tuesday and showed her an area that would bleed every time I had a stool or examined it. She said it was a fissure and gave me meds. I went to my primary doctor on Friday to see if it was healing, but he wasn't there so I saw someone else.
Avatar n tn ed is correct nitro dilates vessels. I take a nitrate (isosorbide) for more than 6 years 3 times before going to gym for workout. My blood pressure does not drop between intervals...in fact I was told to have intervals of nitrate free period. It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....
Avatar m tn The pain lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. I have been prescribed nitroglycerin to take as needed for chest pain and this medicine surely helps. I've had several EKGs and cardiac enzymes done which were all normal. I also had a threadmill/stress test done which was normal. My cardiologist thinks the the probability of me having an occluded/blocked coronary artery is very low.
Avatar f tn Is there anyone in this group that suffers with this. I have been having problems for several months. I have had Gastroparesis for several years and severe constipation. Then found out I have an enterocele and rectocele. Went to physical therapy for the Levator syndrome and ended up with several anal fissures. I just had botox injections done. But right now I am just miserable. Hot baths are about the only thing that help.
Avatar n tn Female age 50 ... I was being treated for pneumonia with 10 days of levaquin and lodrain 24 D. On the fifth day I started having moderate and continual pain between my sholder blades in the upper back and heartburn (no heartburn for 25 years previously) and extreme fatigue. I thought it was the pneumonia and didn't go to the doctor for five days. My blood test then showed troponin was high, doctor said I may have had a heart attack. Doctor wanted a stress test ... which showed normal.
Avatar f tn I was told that based on where they are located surgery is not an option. I was told to I needed to be on crutches for 6 weeks, come back for a check-up and then would receive a brace that somehow moves the kneecap. Can I assume this will heal by itself since it isn't in an operable position? I have been dealing with pain for 9 weeks now and I am assuming the crutches are a way to control pain and help the fissures heal?
Avatar n tn You should see a doctor, preferably a cardiologist, to discuss possible alternatives/substitutes for Nikoran OD. He/she will be able to give you the proper dosing, make sure there are no contraindications with your other co-morbidities, and make sure there are no unwarranted interactions with other drugs you are currently taking.
Avatar m tn First of all thank you for answering my question. They think the fissures are coming from straining from my IBS when I have constipation. Right now they are treating them with Hydrocortisone Acetate Suppositories and said let's treat them for 6 weeks and then see.. I had the tailbone pain about 4 days before they found the fissures so they said there not sure what's causing the pain or say nothing at all.
Avatar f tn I am 53 female w/SLE, systemic lupus for almost 10 years. Barrett's esophagus, GERD, gastic paralysis, fibromyalgi, chronic fatigue, Sicca syndrome, list goes on.....This is something new...sudden very severe shooting pain going up right side of neck, carotid area, sometimes into ear, but not always. Relieved with nitroglycerin. Any guesses as to what this could be?
Avatar m tn He had a heart catherization recently and was found to have several blocked arteries. He had 2 stents put in 2011. Are the risks too great for my husband at his age with insulin dependent diabetes for 19 years to have open heart surgery? His cardiologist so far has put him a medication regimen to try to help with his blocked arteries. The only sympton he has had with the placing of the stents was Chest Pressure, no other symptoms.
Avatar f tn Anal fissures are caused primarily by trauma, but several non-traumatic diseases are associated with anal fissures and should be suspected if fissures occur in unusual locations. The primary symptom of anal fissures is pain during and following bowel movements. Other symptoms that may occur are: bleeding, itching, and a malodorous discharge. Anal fissures are diagnosed and evaluated by visual inspection of the anus and anal canal.
725248 tn?1316162245 I hope this is not too graphic, but I now know what pregnant women feel like, then only problem for me is it causes anal fissures and they hurt worse then my back and nothing takes the pain away, the only thing that remotely helps the pain is a product called Nitro-bid, its a nitroglycerin ointment, its main use is for heart patients and it has a read bad side effect, it causes intense headaches. This back pain sure is a pain in my butt....
Avatar m tn Yesterday, I was told that I do have small fissures (2) and was prescribed a nitroglycerin cream for healing and advises to follow up with a Gastro MD. Again, I was told it looked nothing like an STD by the physician. As advised earlier, I took an IgG test, at 11 weeks (I will be out of town for the 12th week). It was negative, of course and at roughly the same low values as the previous test at 8 weeks (.11). In my situation, is this conclusive?
Avatar n tn I assume the diagnosis of hyperreactive responses not only to the constrictor effects of acetylcholine, but also the dilator effects of nitroglycerin were detected diffusely in the epicardial coronary arteries of patients with coronary spastic angina. The goal of treatment is to control chest pain and to prevent heart attack. The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains.
