For a perspective, pulmonary edema (water in the lungs) and pneumonia are separate issues. Pulmonary edema is usually related to LV dysfunction. It appears the underlying problem is the mitral valve sclerosis (narrowing of opening) and mitral valve regurgitation. The valve problems can stress the heart and cause it to enlarge, and/or an ischemic enlarged LV can aggravate the valve problems especially MVR.
drug overdose especially narcotics, high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) and neurogenic pulmonary edema, such as after a seizure. Yours could have been a response to the anesthetic or other medicines or to aspiration. It would be good to check if aspiration occurred, and what medicines you were given at the time of surgery, including the anesthetics, for your future safety, should you again have to be anesthetized.
Can pulmonary edema develop and cause death in 15 minutes? My father went in for removal of a pollup on his colon that wasn't cancerous. The surgery was on Wednesday. You did not list symptoms associated with congested heart failure and if your doctor has ruled out CHF then there may be an underlying cause with the following:

Yes, it is possible your brother could have had pulmonary edema. I had congested (pulmonary edema) heart failure. With that I had a severe dry cough, choking feeling, hyperventilation when reclined. Sitting up gave relief, but my pulmonary edema was classified as mild...I wouldn't wish a severe case on anyone!
Antibiotics is ineffective for pulmonary edema. A strong antibiotic for pnuemonia should have helped.
The pain is still there together with light headedness and goes away if I take nitroglycerin (thought I know that nitroglycerin would relieve essentially any kind of chest pain).

t realize anything until I started looking at things and noticed that I have pitting edema in both legs. It is mild, relatively, but it is certainly there and doesn't ever go away. Leg symptoms are mostly stiffness with occasional very mild cramping. To be fair, I did gain perhaps 30 pounds in the year before all this began and I now weigh 275 and I'm 5'10.
My cat has been recovering from what is believed to be Pulmonary Edema. He has been taking 5mg of Frusemide and Synulox twice a day. This seems to have made him so much better and the rapid breathing (60 per min) he was experiencing before decreased to normal levels whilst on this medication. Today though, it seems to be elevated to 47 per min and looking very pronounced. Why would this be? He is due back at the vet on Tuesday. Should I wait until then or see them earlier?
I had pulmonary edema due to heart failure, and I was in ICU for several days to removed fluids and stabilize the oxygen level to normal. I have completely recovered going on 7 years.

a left-to-right cardiac shunt (a hole between chambers), pulmonary artery hypertension, COPD or emphysema, pulmonary embolus, pulmonary edema, left ventricular failure....the above conditions relate if the pulmonary artery pressure during systole (pumping phase) is 20-30 mmHg, diastolic (resting phase) is 8-12 mmHg and a differential diagnosis with other tests, clinical evidence and symptoms.
As, you are having MS, the degree of stenosis also plays a role in prognosis. Due to severe MSA pulmonary edema and generalized edema and shortness of breath are common. With drugs and life style changes symptomatic relief can be achieved. If the stenosis is severe then surgical approach should be considered. Best.
what more can you tell us about the edema,? have you had a cardio work up? Is it pulmonary edema? you may have something completley non related to your past hyster, if you have not been to dr for a complete physical Id really advise you to do so. Im not real sure how the sore breasts plays into this , but the edema concerns me more.
She has not walked in over 2 months because she has been so weak and also because her legs and feet as so swollen from the edema. The edema in her legs are causing an arrhythmia in her heart, and they can't seem to get a grip on the edema in her legs. They cannot release her from the hospital until they get her arrhythmia under control. I cannot imagine her being released from professional care at all, but before the arrhythmia occurred, they were going to release her and send her home!
I would be concerned about CHF if I were at your house on a call! Especially with your respiratory ailments you describe. How have your blood pressures been? Multiple things can cause chf such as renal insufficiency, fluid overload, water retention from these disorders can sometimes be managed by weight control and exercising good dieting. Foods with high sodium levels can cause water retention. If I were you, I would see your PCP without delay.
I am a 37 yr old female who has recently had symptoms that include SOB, severe fatigue, 4+ leg edema, low blood pressure(88/53), low heart rate in the 50's,nocturia and 2 episodes of syncope all in the last 2 months since my leg edema started. All my blood work was normal including kidney and thyroid function. My family physicain ordered an echo that showed Mild Tricuspid and Mitral regurg and Mild mitral valve thickening. Just wondering if this could be the cause of my symptoms?
