Avatar f tn Both of you wonderful doctors have helped answer questions for me in times past, and I have one more. I went to my eye Dr. today, and he seems put off by my asking to understand my diagnosis or even know my test results. He said I have the chronic open angle glaucoma 2 months ago. My pressure was 26 in both eyes. Today it was down to 21, thanks to the ketorolac drops. I really had to press for that tidbit.
Avatar n tn I would like to know if I am suffering from chronic closed angle glaucoma ( I understand that open angle glaucoma is the more common form) and if so is the ache in the eyelids due to that? Or is it more possible that this is a symptom of dry eyes? In addition, I have been using Xalatan for a week now. It seems to make my eyes itchy. The itchiness seems to be transient meaning it isn't persistent but fluctuates.
Avatar f tn How are chronic angle closure glaucoma attacks seen or diagnosed by an eye Dr. and how many attacks does it take before the eye doctor realizes that you've experienced an attack? Is there something they see in your eyes to deteremine it?
Avatar f tn ve read a lot of horror stories of HCTZ causing severe visual problems such as closed-angle glaucoma and other vision losses. Has anyone experienced this with BP medications such as the one mentioned?
Avatar m tn A person is diagnosed w/ glaucoma when there is evidence of optic nerve damage. There are several different types of glaucoma, normal tension, primary open angle, closed angle, and also secondary glaucoma. The most common type of glaucoma is primary open angle glaucoma. It is treated first w/ medications (eye drops), then if medications alone do not stop its progression other treatments may be used. Once optic nerve damage is detected it is irreversible.
Avatar n tn Why did my cataracts become 'swollen'..thus making my glaucoma closed angle ? This discussion is related to Laser Iridotomy.
Avatar n tn ve recently been diagnosed with closed angle glaucoma and I notice that when I get alot of sinus pressure- my IOP goes way up- but today my sinuses are really bad and when I went outside to walk my dog- I saw a med sized black spot in my right eye FOV- it went away quickly- but now I'm nervous that I'm having a major problem- this has never happened before and I don't know what to do. PLEASE HELP !
Avatar f tn Thank you for your comments. The first ophthamologist said the pain is due to an acute closed angle glaucoma, but the surgeon said the laser surgery is only used to save vision, and I have no vision in my left eye. He believes removing my eye is the best option. But, the surgeon who was going to remove the eye doesn't think removal will help the pain.
Avatar f tn Same story with each new treatment the most recent pilocarpine her IOP was 34 over a week came down to 25 two days ago was 36 again Her neck hurts when her IOP is high and her symptoms vary so there is no consensus on even if its open angle or closed angle though thy think open angle Anyone have any ideas or suggestions or dealt with this before she's been to eye hospital and seen opthalmologists etc but given i can't find record of a case like this anywhere I'm guessing they don&#
Avatar f tn A YAG iridotomy will not worsen his cataract, but will open the anterior chamber angle and prevent a sudden attack of angle closure glaucoma. If the cataract is significantly affecting your father's vision, then removal of the cataract will also open the angle and improve vision as well. If he has the cataract surgery, he will not need the laser iridotomy.
Avatar m tn My mother is suffering from Angle Glaucoma and she got PI done in her eyes and the doctor seems to have said that she is fine now and should come for regular check ups. The doctor seems to have told my mom that me as her son have a risk of suffering from the same condition. Could someone let me know if I do indeed have that risk and what can I do to make sure I don't suffer the same. Thank you.
Avatar f tn In this case you probably do NOT have a condition called angle closure glaucoma. This is the type of glaucoma that can be affected by cold medications. If you have open angle glaucoma or any other type of glaucoma, cold medications are fine.
Avatar f tn Dear doctor: I just got back from my opthalmologist today to do my last test to detect for glaucoma. Here are my results so far. 1) visual field test = normal 2) Cornea thickness = good -2 or 3 something like that 3) Briefly looked at my optic nerve through dilation = seems good However, today, the doctor himself took a picture of my eyes, and he said that I might have open angle glaucoma. He looked at the pictures and said "there is something there".
Avatar n tn Before doing the cataract surgery, I had an iridotomy with a doctor that thought my IOP was high and that I had closed angle glaucoma. The iridotomy did not work well and I consulted with a few doctors after. They all agreed that I did not have closed angle glaucoma and that my IOP was a normal, though on the higher side. I wanted to stop using glasses and because I had multifocal lenses I found a doctor that recommended the cataract surgery but he never told me about YAG before the surgery.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was sent to a nuero opthalmologist as I had nystagmus and an odd sensation of my eye twisting, accompanied by nausea. Whilst there thy found I had narrow angles and I'm going for laser treatment on Thursday. The pressure in my eyes is normal but I also have inflamed muscles ( found on ultrasound) and 'gritty' eyes.Would all this be caused by the 'narrow angle glaucoma'. Angles less than 10% and closed in places. Having read your posts I assume the laser is necessary?
Avatar f tn Any medication that says do not take if you have glaucoma is referring to angle closure glaucoma. The other types of open angle glaucoma are not a problem. If a person is known to have occludable angles a laser iridotomy is done then its okay to take, if a person has an attack of angle closure and has LPI then okay to take. So after making laser opening there is generally no eye reason not to take these meds.
Avatar n tn As long as its the common type of open angle glaucoma anything she wants the warning about glaucoma is only for the rare angle closure glaucoma that has not had a laser iridectomy.
Avatar m tn 2) Could it be that the IOP spikes/ roller coaster is because of the trauma and not because the angle recession has started the glaucoma now? (meaning, that maybe the eye is becoming "stable" and so is the IOP?) 3) I yes, than what might be the prognosis for a future glaucoma (I'm 45 years old)? Thank you....
Avatar m tn The trauma damaged the iris sphincter and all of the drainage angle. Eye pressure is OK now but I understand I am at risk of getting glaucoma in the future. I am 40 years old. Here are my questions: Is the glucoma I may get called 'Angle Recession'? What is the liklehood of me getting it? When am I most likely to get it? Does it come-on quickly? Is it as treatable as other forms of glaucoma? Becks.
Avatar f tn I have narrow angle glaucoma and have had the iridotomy (sp?) in both eyes although the procedure didn't open the angles as much as my doctor would have liked. I have not had the shunt installation. I am taking no medications for the glaucoma and so far as I know have not had an attack. I am checked every six months. Last night during the night I was awakened with pain in my left eye and a great amount of tearing.
Avatar m tn But does that mean that using them can CAUSE Glaucoma? What would be considered too much of these drops a day and what problems can it cause, in terms of vision? Can they cause more permanant vision loss? Thanks.
Avatar m tn As a follow-up to my previous post, I have now been diagnosed with open angle glaucoma (38 years old, left eye 16, right eye 23). While there is no visible optic nerve damage (some cupping but this attributable to my near sightedness) and my vision has remained consistent, my family history (dad has occular hypertension) would inidicate glaucoma at its very early stage. We began SLT treatment and I go back in two weeks to see if the pressures have dropped.
Avatar f tn Upon a routine eye exam w/Optomotrist last week, I was told a had narrow angle glaucoma and needed to see a specialist. I cannot get in to see a Glaucoma specialist for a month, so I was wondering if you could help me in the meantime. My questions are: does narrow angles always lead to angle closure ? Can it just be monitored if you do not have any symptoms? Is it always in both eyes, or can one eye just have a narrow angle?
Avatar m tn occludable angles means the part of the eye where the fluid drains out (angle) between the iris and the cornea is narrow due to being a short eye (far-sighted) and that the iris could block the flow out of the eye causing an acute or subacute or recurrent attack of angle closure glaucoma. To prevent this from happening if Eye MD ophthalmologists see it they use a laser iridotomy (hole in the iris) to prevent the attack from developing.
Avatar m tn The only type of glaucoma any medicine that says that can effect is angle closure glaucoma not the much more common open angle types. Moreover if a person is known to have angle closure the ophthalmologist would treat them with laser iridotomies then those meds would be okay.
Avatar f tn Sometimes, the shape of one’s eye, makes them susceptible to an attack of narrow angle glaucoma despite normal vision and pressure presently. I would recommend that you speak with your eyeMD about why a laser iridotomy was recommended. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S.
Avatar f tn I believe I have been having narrow angle glaucoma attacks. Every so often my right eye will become extremely red and painful. My vision will be reduced in the eye and I see tremendous halos around lights. They longest my eye has stayed that way was about a week, most of the time it goes away in a day or two. I do not want to have another episode like this. I have made an appointment to see an ophthalmologist but could not get in until December.
Avatar m tn I recently had a trebeculectomy on my right eye for open angle glaucoma (the left eye had a similar surgery 2 years ago). Pressure is fine in both eyes and my doctor says everything looks good, But something is very wrong. Light is way too bright and things seem closed in (i don't know how else to describe it). I played basketball with my son in bright sunshine this morning and made about 1 of 20 shots (I'm usually not great but never that bad).
