It is a tingling in the usually hands and feet and can be due to a nerve like issue either caused by a drug or some other problem like diabetes or other nerve issue. So overall things some like she is over the main problem. I would ask the doctor about the tingling issue. Is she diabetic? She didn't have this before the drugs and/or infection right? It may go away after the drugs are out of her system.

I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?
9 days ago Nitrofurantoin (200g a day for 5 days) was taken and daily birth control (Qlaira). Both are known to decrease levels of haptoglobin but nothing about complete depletion.
Could this be an extended effect from Nitrofurantoin? When should the test be repeated ?
A couple of weeks later I developed a urinary tract infection. Urologist prescribed nitrofurantoin for the infection. Immediatedly after starting the antibiotic my ears gradually starting feeling clogged. Now, two weeks later, they are both very clogged (no wax buildup) and I can barely hear. Logic tells me the ear clogging is somehow connected to the nitrofurantoin. Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this happening? Will this clogging go away by itself?

I have been taking ciprobid, doxyl and nitrofurantoin for a month now. but still the is no change. I still have some pains. I was diagnosed with an UTI, in the urine and blood test the was no Chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis in short no STI. the bleeding stopped,but i did the urine test and there was presence of RBC and proteins(other stuff were normal).i don't have burning urine but pain when urinating still persists.my diagnosis was UTI and cifran 500mg tablettes were prescribed(because i don't know if i'm allergic to penicillin),and found that causative organism is E. coli.but the dr. said this might also be aggravated by my bad habit of holding urine for a long.
(My weight is about 145 kg, previously has been 188 kg, with a length of 170cm) It started in 2006, I did get nitrofurantoin, but I got only more ill, till I even got over 41 degree fever and an emergency-doctor then prescribed ciprofloxacin which did help (this was in Holland). I am allergic to PCN and Cipro and have been given Nitrofurantoin for 7 days. I am very afraid to take it. Does anyone have any experiences with it or can recommend other meds to take?

I understand your concern. Nitrofurantoin can indeed result to neuropathies as one of its side effects. This can happen anytime during or post treatment. It varies in severity and very uncommonly may become irreversible. I suggest that you have this looked at by your doctor or a neurologist to assess for other causes. Tests may be in order such as nerve conduction velocity or electromyography to pinpoint the cause. Also report to your doctor any changes in symptoms or progression.
Most uncomplicated UTIs can be treated with oral antibiotics such as trimethoprim, cephalosporins, nitrofurantoin, or a fluoroquinolone (e.g., ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin). Trimethoprim is probably the most widely used antibiotic for UTIs and is usually taken for 7 days. It is often recommended that trimethoprim be taken at night to ensure maximal urinary concentrations and increase its effectiveness.
They precscribed me nitrofurantoin and I’ve been taking it for about 5 days now and my symptoms are pretty much gone, though I’ve been told to keep taking the pills for the whole 7 days. However, the first time I took it the day I got them they made my stomach hurt a lot, but I assumed that was due to the fact that I hadn’t eaten all day, and so every other time I’ve taken it I’ve eaten something with it and I’ve felt fine. After that, maybe the 3rd day, I started to get diarrhea.
I’ve been suffering from IC for 5 years now and for some odd reason Nitrofurantoin/Macrobid seems to work well for me, even when my urine culture comes back negative. I take it (100 mg X 2 for 10 days) when my IC flares and within a few days the symptoms are essentially gone. They often come back 3-5 months later, but at least it works temporarily.
My doctors have no idea why this medication works, but it’s been working pretty consistently for the past 3-4 years now.
I took nitrofurantoin for a UTI infection and finished my course on Tuesday morning. Yesterday (Friday), I noticed what appears to be hives (small raised bumps with no redness, they didn’t itch) on my legs. I counted 13 - primarily on my thighs and shins. They appear to be gone today, but after I took my puppy for a walk this morning, I noticed small red bumps on my feet and they itched. Is this an allergic reaction to the antibiotics?

My ultra sound was normal, as well as the urinalysis (taken when no symptoms of a uti were present). I then started taking Nitrofurantoin Macrocrystal (a daily antibiotic or taken after sex, also called Macrodantin). The UTIs went away during this time. However, my prescription has expired and the UTIs are back. Does anyone have experience with long term antibiotic treatments? How long does typical treatment for chronic UTIs last? I am worried about taking antibiotics for more than a year.
If you get recurrent urinary tract infections or if the infection gets into your kidneys, your caregiver may recommend taking nitrofurantoin (trade name Macrodantin or Macrobid) for the rest of your pregnancy to prevent another infection. You should stop taking this drug at about 36 weeks (or immediately if you go into preterm labor) because there's a very small risk that it will destroy some of your baby's red blood cells if you take it within several days of delivery.
