Most uncomplicated UTIs can be treated with oral antibiotics such as trimethoprim, cephalosporins, nitrofurantoin, or a fluoroquinolone (e.g., ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin). Trimethoprim is probably the most widely used antibiotic for UTIs and is usually taken for 7 days. It is often recommended that trimethoprim be taken at night to ensure maximal urinary concentrations and increase its effectiveness.
It burns when I pee, my vagina smells of a mix of cheese and fish but my discharge doesn't smell! I have a creamy subtance building on the outer of my vaginal lips, and that also smells of cheese - no matter how much I wash! My wee burns more after sex and my vulva gets really swollen. Can anyone help with the diagnosis of this? I have been to the doctors various times but no one can seem to pin point the issue. I have been given trimethoprim and nitrofurantoin before but haven't helped!
I’ve been suffering from IC for 5 years now and for some odd reason Nitrofurantoin/Macrobid seems to work well for me, even when my urine culture comes back negative. I take it (100 mg X 2 for 10 days) when my IC flares and within a few days the symptoms are essentially gone. They often come back 3-5 months later, but at least it works temporarily.
My doctors have no idea why this medication works, but it’s been working pretty consistently for the past 3-4 years now.
Sounds like, Chronic prostatitis! prostatitis is treated with a long course (6 - 12 weeks or longer) of antibiotics. Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim or Septra) and ciprofloxacin (Cipro) are commonly used. Other antibiotics that may be used include: Carbenicillin, Erythromycin, Nitrofurantoin,
Tetracycline. Most antibiotics do not get into the prostate tissue well.
Blood in the urine can be a sign of another problem in the urinary tract including kidney or ureteral stones, a tumor or other types of bladder lining problems. It sounds like you need to see a Urologist if you have not already. Calcifications in the kidney probably mean you have kidney stones. If the pelvic pain is not from an infection your Urologist will be able to evaluate you for Interstitial Cystitis.
In Jan 2006 had sub total hysterectomy. I still continued to get uti and was given long term trimethoprim and now I have to take one trim after sex to prevent further infections. in march 2010 hubby got another uti, same as before pain on urinating passing blood, went to A&E doc ask if he had gonorrhea he said no did a urine test and said that they would send results to GP and they would call if anything wrong, did not hear anything.
i recently found out that im 2 weeks pregnant and iwas on antibiotics(doxyclyn and metrronidazole) for bacterial infection before i took the test ,i want to know if this has affected the baby or me.
In March, I had oral sex with another male. This male rubbed his penis on mine, and we masturbated. I'm 37.
1. The next day I had a sting in the head of my penis which lasted a few seconds. Next day pain, and the following day, discharge. Was given a gram of arythromycin. Discharge stopped, pain continued. Frequently feeling like I need to pee. Doc suggested it was viral and gave me 1 week of Valtrex + doxycycline. Things settled, but 2 days after meds stopped pain continued.

I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?
Probably not at 3 days, and at most, the trimethoprim would inhibit or slow the growth of gonorrhea or chlamydia, not kill it, so you would probably still show as positive.
I don't know what your risks were, or symptoms, or if they actually tested you for a UTI, but if that treatment doesn't work, you can test again after being off the antibiotics for a couple of weeks.

Should I go back to the std clinic ? Or give it another weeks as is the Azithromycin and Trimethoprim still doing their work ? Or should I go back again ?

Logic tells me the ear clogging is somehow connected to the nitrofurantoin. Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this happening? Will this clogging go away by itself? I can't begin to figure out the causes/effects here, but this condition is driving me crazy. An anyone help with suggestions?
I have recently been feeling unwell and have recurring UTI’s and been on Nitrofurantoin. I also take levothyroxine for an under active thyroid.

Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.
With that said I would call my ob and ask what exactly the risk factors are. And if there is any other type of drug she can take. I guess as long as you, your wife, and doctor are comfortable with it then its fine.
I visit the doctor again and she gave me Nitrofurantoin antibiotics and after taking them once, instantly my erections returned and tests returned to normal size -I am taking 100mg twice in a day . I have been taking ciprobid, doxyl and nitrofurantoin for a month now. but still the is no change. I still have some pains. I was diagnosed with an UTI, in the urine and blood test the was no Chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis in short no STI. But and the doctor, prescribed ciprobid, doxyl and nitrofurantoin for me and my wife. I have visited the doctor 3times and the last tested I did.
(My weight is about 145 kg, previously has been 188 kg, with a length of 170cm) It started in 2006, I did get nitrofurantoin, but I got only more ill, till I even got over 41 degree fever and an emergency-doctor then prescribed ciprofloxacin which did help (this was in Holland). Since 2008 we are in UK and I have been under treatment at St George, London, till 2010.
Does anyone know if Sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim is affective agianst chlamydia. I thought I read that Dr. said it was. But am not sure.
My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex twice in the course of 24 hours (came in me twice) and I then found out I had a UTI three days later. The nurse prescribed me nitrofurantoin twice daily for a week. On the third day or so I had bouts of brown discharge that resembled menstrual blood but I wasn't supposed to have my period till the following week. I'm on the pill; so far it has been 5 days of the placebo and I haven't bled.
