Common Questions and Answers about Nitrofurantoin medication

macrobid

Avatar f tn He told I had almost nothing in terms of UTI and in my partner there was an indication that she had UTI, and we were both put on medication, but after the medication, I still feel the pain. We have not been meeting with my partner. And from day one, from the time I started having these pains my partner has never complained of any pains showing of any symptoms related to the infection. How can I go about this, I also did a scrotum scan. But seemed to be normal.
Avatar m tn A couple of weeks later I developed a urinary tract infection. Urologist prescribed nitrofurantoin for the infection. Immediatedly after starting the antibiotic my ears gradually starting feeling clogged. Now, two weeks later, they are both very clogged (no wax buildup) and I can barely hear. Logic tells me the ear clogging is somehow connected to the nitrofurantoin. Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this happening? Will this clogging go away by itself?
Avatar f tn They precscribed me nitrofurantoin and I’ve been taking it for about 5 days now and my symptoms are pretty much gone, though I’ve been told to keep taking the pills for the whole 7 days. However, the first time I took it the day I got them they made my stomach hurt a lot, but I assumed that was due to the fact that I hadn’t eaten all day, and so every other time I’ve taken it I’ve eaten something with it and I’ve felt fine. After that, maybe the 3rd day, I started to get diarrhea.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?
Avatar f tn Im just very anxious sence my last pregnancy my baby didnt developed he stoped growing at 6 weeks ...well my question is does the medication nitrofurantoin mono mac makes the baby development stop? does it interfear with my pregnancy? do i have anything to worrie about?
Avatar n tn Most uncomplicated UTIs can be treated with oral antibiotics such as trimethoprim, cephalosporins, nitrofurantoin, or a fluoroquinolone (e.g., ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin). Trimethoprim is probably the most widely used antibiotic for UTIs and is usually taken for 7 days. It is often recommended that trimethoprim be taken at night to ensure maximal urinary concentrations and increase its effectiveness.
1009876 tn?1326490077 I took this medication as prescribed. 1, twice a day for 3 days. I had my last pill with dinner yesterday. But the infection is still causing a small amout of pain during urination. And I am still experiencing pains in my abdomen. Is this normal? Normally when I take medication, I feel better before I'm even done the pills. This infection came on suddenly, and got worse by the hour until I took the second pill. My urine is still quite dark, but I know this is a side effect of the medication.
Avatar m tn It also says that the colony count of the bacteris is 1,00,000 cfu/ml. Hence, doctor prescribed some medicines like Uribid with nitrofurantoin in it, Prothiaden M, Montemac FX for allergy and Hifenac-P for fever and also Cital syrup for UTI. My mother continued the course for one week, now fever and tiredness have decreased, but the burning sensation continues. Is this mixture of tablets fine, or any other suggestion or recommendations for treating this urinary tract infection of K.Oxytoca.

Avatar m tn 9 days ago Nitrofurantoin (200g a day for 5 days) was taken and daily birth control (Qlaira). Both are known to decrease levels of haptoglobin but nothing about complete depletion. Could this be an extended effect from Nitrofurantoin? When should the test be repeated ?
Avatar f tn I understand your concern. Nitrofurantoin can indeed result to neuropathies as one of its side effects. This can happen anytime during or post treatment. It varies in severity and very uncommonly may become irreversible. I suggest that you have this looked at by your doctor or a neurologist to assess for other causes. Tests may be in order such as nerve conduction velocity or electromyography to pinpoint the cause. Also report to your doctor any changes in symptoms or progression.
Avatar f tn I've been told I have a UTI and was given Macrobid/Nitrofurantoin. I have taken 3 tablets but out of curiosity I looked them up on the internet and it said some women have lost their babies days after taking the tablets. Has anyone taken these and had a healthy pregnancy?!

Avatar m tn Thinking it might be a UTI I went to the DR, I was prescribed Ciproflaxacin, no real change after 7 days, then Nitrofurantoin. It felt like symptoms subsided the week after but came back again. I’ve been using clotrimazole cream to help with irritation, but doesn’t seem to do much. I have developed tiny irregular pimples around the glans. The DR was not concerned about these. Now, 7 weeks later, my penis tip still feels a bit irritated and glans a bit red.

Avatar f tn I’ve been suffering from IC for 5 years now and for some odd reason Nitrofurantoin/Macrobid seems to work well for me, even when my urine culture comes back negative. I take it (100 mg X 2 for 10 days) when my IC flares and within a few days the symptoms are essentially gone. They often come back 3-5 months later, but at least it works temporarily. My doctors have no idea why this medication works, but it’s been working pretty consistently for the past 3-4 years now.
Avatar n tn I visit the doctor again and she gave me Nitrofurantoin antibiotics and after taking them once, instantly my erections returned and tests returned to normal size -I am taking 100mg twice in a day . The next day I woke up and my erections were gone again and testes shrunk, I took Nitrofurantoin and nothing is happening . I’m so scared I have phoned 111 and told them this and they told me to Go to my doctor again - the doctor said she gave me antibiotics already and refused to see me !
Avatar f tn m in my first trimester and I have a urinary track infection, and a doctor at a hospital prescribed me Nitrofurantoin 100 mg , 4 times a day, of course the side effects are worse in me, I guess because of my pregnancy, but I need to know if it's really safe for my baby, I'm not having any problems in my pregnancy, and I don't have any spotting, thanks God. But I had a miscarriage before and I'm very concerned about any pills doctors make me take.
Avatar f tn April 1st I made a trip to the walk-in clinic, unable to bear it any longer. Started Alinia (an anti-diarrheal medication, which I can't find evidence that actually does anything to kill the parasite, only treats the diarrhea) the next day. 50 mg for 3 days. The treatment seemed to work, but my GI tract still hasn't gone back to "normal". Since the crypto, I have been on 3 different antibiotics in the last 3 months.
Avatar f tn (My weight is about 145 kg, previously has been 188 kg, with a length of 170cm) It started in 2006, I did get nitrofurantoin, but I got only more ill, till I even got over 41 degree fever and an emergency-doctor then prescribed ciprofloxacin which did help (this was in Holland). Since 2008 we are in UK and I have been under treatment at St George, London, till 2010.
Avatar n tn Frequent kidney infections may respond to prophylaxis medication such as taking low doses of an antibiotic such as TMP/SMZ or nitrofurantoin daily for 6 months or longer. Discuss this with your doctor to ease any anxiety. It is also recommended that you drink plenty of water every day and urinate when you feel the need. Try to avoid using feminine hygiene sprays and scented douches because these may irritate the urethra. Take care and best regards.
