macrobid

Avatar f tn Does anyone have experience with long term antibiotic treatments? How long does typical treatment for chronic UTIs last? I am worried about taking antibiotics for more than a year.
Avatar n tn I am a 18 year female, and ive been suffereing from a "unrinary tract infection" since november 2008! I have been on 2 courses of trimethoprim since and this has not stoped my pain. I was then sent to a consultant who sent me for a kidney scan and a bladder examination; after these tests I found out that I have "calcification of the kidney". So I was put on Nitrofurantoin for a month but still no real change.
Avatar n tn I had recently went to the doctor for a bladder infection. The doctor said the results came back negative and there was a lot of water in my urine. She asked if i could be pregnant, she then ran a pregnancy test the first one came back positive and the second came back negative. She started me on Macrobid and told me to take another test.
Avatar n tn Any suggestions for a 30 yr old female falling apart? Please give me some answers. Thank You...
Avatar n tn I had sling surgery two years ago...about 6 mos. afterwards the discomfort of pain in the lower pelvic area started. I have been treated premarin and estrace...both caused burning and did not help. I tried a lubricant and was using it daily and it gave me some relief each day a few hours after I used it. Then that didn't work either. About three months ago, after thinking I was getting the flu, I developed a major UTI and wound up in the emergency room.
Avatar f tn I feel so bad for you. There is an IC community here at MedHelp that may be helpful for you, too! Sorry you are in such bad pain.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?
Avatar f tn Hi, Its is common for patients who have Interstitial Cystitis to have a few real urinary tract infections in the past, then start to have symptoms with no infection in the urine. White blood cells in the urine don't necessarily mean infection and needs a workup if the cultures are negative. A urine culture is key rule in or rule out the infection. If there is no infection by the culture but you still have symptoms you may have IC.
Avatar n tn Given the delayed response to treatment, most likely you were infected with a strain resistant to nitrofurantoin -- which these days is not the usual drug used for UTIs anyway. You might talk to your doctor about other possible treatments in the future. Second, if your UTIs regularly are triggered by sex, you might take a single dose of antibiotic after intercourse. (I have personal experience with this. For several years my wife had recurrent, sex-triggered UTIs.
Avatar m tn Hence, doctor prescribed some medicines like Uribid with nitrofurantoin in it, Prothiaden M, Montemac FX for allergy and Hifenac-P for fever and also Cital syrup for UTI. My mother continued the course for one week, now fever and tiredness have decreased, but the burning sensation continues. Is this mixture of tablets fine, or any other suggestion or recommendations for treating this urinary tract infection of K.Oxytoca.
Avatar f tn You're very welcome. Anytime!
Avatar f tn I've had chronic IC/UTI symptoms for the past 4 years and a few years ago I was diagnosed with IC based on symptoms. Over the years I have found effective ways to treat my symptoms, such as taking nitrofurantoin when my symptoms get bad and drinking lots of fluids throughout the day. I recently moved back in with my mother.
Avatar n tn in Dec 2004 husband experienced uti, burning when urinating blood in urine, no discharge was given antibiotics. Went to GP had test for clam, not sure if they tested for gon as well but test was neg. 2005 I had end ablation, continued getting cystitis more antibiotics. In Jan 2006 had sub total hysterectomy. I still continued to get uti and was given long term trimethoprim and now I have to take one trim after sex to prevent further infections.
Avatar m tn 9 days ago Nitrofurantoin (200g a day for 5 days) was taken and daily birth control (Qlaira). Both are known to decrease levels of haptoglobin but nothing about complete depletion. Could this be an extended effect from Nitrofurantoin? When should the test be repeated ?
Avatar m tn A couple of weeks later I developed a urinary tract infection. Urologist prescribed nitrofurantoin for the infection. Immediatedly after starting the antibiotic my ears gradually starting feeling clogged. Now, two weeks later, they are both very clogged (no wax buildup) and I can barely hear. Logic tells me the ear clogging is somehow connected to the nitrofurantoin. Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this happening? Will this clogging go away by itself?
Avatar f tn I have recently been feeling unwell and have recurring UTI’s and been on Nitrofurantoin. I also take levothyroxine for an under active thyroid. I recently had a LFT and my ALT was 934. My GGT was 140 and bilirubin 37. I am having an urgent scan tomorrow but the drs seem at a loss as to what is causing this? Any advice or help?
Avatar f tn I’ve been suffering from IC for 5 years now and for some odd reason Nitrofurantoin/Macrobid seems to work well for me, even when my urine culture comes back negative. I take it (100 mg X 2 for 10 days) when my IC flares and within a few days the symptoms are essentially gone. They often come back 3-5 months later, but at least it works temporarily. My doctors have no idea why this medication works, but it’s been working pretty consistently for the past 3-4 years now.
Avatar f tn I took nitrofurantoin for a UTI infection and finished my course on Tuesday morning. Yesterday (Friday), I noticed what appears to be hives (small raised bumps with no redness, they didn’t itch) on my legs. I counted 13 - primarily on my thighs and shins. They appear to be gone today, but after I took my puppy for a walk this morning, I noticed small red bumps on my feet and they itched. Is this an allergic reaction to the antibiotics?
Avatar f tn I have been taking ciprobid, doxyl and nitrofurantoin for a month now. but still the is no change. I still have some pains. I was diagnosed with an UTI, in the urine and blood test the was no Chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis in short no STI. But and the doctor, prescribed ciprobid, doxyl and nitrofurantoin for me and my wife. I have visited the doctor 3times and the last tested I did.
Avatar n tn I visit the doctor again and she gave me Nitrofurantoin antibiotics and after taking them once, instantly my erections returned and tests returned to normal size -I am taking 100mg twice in a day . The next day I woke up and my erections were gone again and testes shrunk, I took Nitrofurantoin and nothing is happening . I’m so scared I have phoned 111 and told them this and they told me to Go to my doctor again - the doctor said she gave me antibiotics already and refused to see me !
Avatar f tn Hi,for your disease, it is likely that you may have interstitial cystitis. The common symptoms of IC are: Pain in your pelvis or between the vagina and anus in women or between the scrotum and anus in men (perineum) Chronic pelvic pain A persistent, urgent need to urinate Frequent urination, often of small amounts, throughout the day and night People with severe interstitial cystitis may urinate as often as 60 times a day.
