I would guess this is what is going on and not worry. Take your pill as the package tells you and keep taking it. Think it is just a fluke related to the uti and stress.

I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?

I took this medication as prescribed. 1, twice a day for 3 days. I had my last pill with dinner yesterday. But the infection is still causing a small amout of pain during urination. And I am still experiencing pains in my abdomen. Is this normal? Normally when I take medication, I feel better before I'm even done the pills. This infection came on suddenly, and got worse by the hour until I took the second pill. My urine is still quite dark, but I know this is a side effect of the medication.

I visit the doctor again and she gave me Nitrofurantoin antibiotics and after taking them once, instantly my erections returned and tests returned to normal size -I am taking 100mg twice in a day . The next day I woke up and my erections were gone again and testes shrunk, I took Nitrofurantoin and nothing is happening . I’m so scared I have phoned 111 and told them this and they told me to Go to my doctor again - the doctor said she gave me antibiotics already and refused to see me !

I would ask the doctor and/or pharmacist if the tingling will go away after she gets off the Nitrofurantoin and if so then if she can tolerate it and it is working well then you can either up to dose of neurontin or try to tolerate it until the antibiotic is finished. If not then switch. I would not go off anything until talking to the doctor. Depending on the dose of Gabapin, she may have to taper off of it as you cannot go off of it immediately. You will get rebound insomina.

PS -- I neglected to say that Macrodantin is the brand name of generic nitrofurantoin, which is the name used in the information above.

9 days ago Nitrofurantoin (200g a day for 5 days) was taken and daily birth control (Qlaira). Both are known to decrease levels of haptoglobin but nothing about complete depletion. Could this be an extended effect from Nitrofurantoin? When should the test be repeated ?

I have just got to 3 days on nitrofurantoin for uti, dizziness and headache got too bad as side effects. And now I'm losing my hearing too, no wax. It's inside and pain all over my face. Still dizzy, hearing been getting worse all day. Very quick. It's definitely the nitrofurantoin. I wondered as it says it can swell the salivary glands, cause sore throats and constant cold if it's to do with thst or a part of the nerve damage side effect? Did it resolve for you?

I have recently been feeling unwell and have recurring UTI’s and been on Nitrofurantoin. I also take levothyroxine for an under active thyroid. I recently had a LFT and my ALT was 934. My GGT was 140 and bilirubin 37. I am having an urgent scan tomorrow but the drs seem at a loss as to what is causing this? Any advice or help?

Is it possible that I mistook the symptoms of one for the other and then got the wrong medication and that’s what’s causing these problems? Or maybe I had both at the same time without realizing it and the yeast infection got worse... Jesus, I don’t know, but I’m having incredible anxiety over all of this.

He told I had almost nothing in terms of UTI and in my partner there was an indication that she had UTI, and we were both put on medication, but after the medication, I still feel the pain. Since taking the Nitrofurantoin, my back pain comes and goes, jumps in severity, sometimes subtle, sometimes severe, my penis seems a little sore (mainly urethra) and testicle area too. Very mild though. I also get sweats (like a hot flush), shakes, random sharp itches and mild tingling in my hands. Perhaps these are side effects of the medication? I’ve read a few are possible. As I say, urine samples all appeared normal. All blood tests also show no concern to any bodily functions.

I have a UTI that is resistant to macrobid and my doctor mentioned one of the above as the cause--I believe. I had to switch to another antibiotic. Just curious?

i have had good results prophylactically and at the first onset withi the topical application of small amounts of OTC cortisone cream and antibiotic ointment around and at the entrance to the urethra. any comments?

I am assuming you have liver cirrhosis which is why you posted this gquestion in the liver cirrhosis community and that is the reason you see a gastroenterologist. If your dictor knows your medical condition they are best equipped to advise you on your medical treatments.

As fas as I know, nexium (esomeprazole) only interferes with biaxin (clarithromycin). It heightens the amount of esomeprazole by inhibiting the degradation of esomeprazole. You need to be evaluated for the cause of the chronic UTI. The choice of the antibiotics must be also not correct. Get a cystoscopic examination for further understanding.

I still have a very small amount of white/clear discharge though and when ejaculating my semen is white and gelatinous. The urine samples and swab came back clear but showing more than normal amounts of white blood cells. The gp I'm seeing obviously wants to rule out sti but with symptoms clearing up would it be normal of a sti to do this and what are the possible causes of my current and reduced symptoms.

It came back with a high white blood cell count. They treated me for a UTI and gave me Nitrofurantoin to take 3 times a day for 7 days. The symptoms where much less while on the medication but within 5 days of finishing the treatment all my symptoms where back. I went back to my FP, they did another urine analysis and also a culture, The analysis came back with high white blood cell count, but the culture was negative. They treated me again, for a UTI this time with Cipro.
