new diagnosis - prostatitis. Doc gave me cipro and doxy 8 days with no result. Bactrim for 10 days, no result. As I live in Africa, I went to Portugal to get a second opinion, and the doctor gave me levo for 20 days; no result. Afterwards tried another uru, and he told it was all about the food I was I taking, had a huge diet lost 7 kilos, no result.
I am allergic to PCN and Cipro and have been given Nitrofurantoin for 7 days. I am very afraid to take it. Does anyone have any experiences with it or can recommend other meds to take?

my UTI getting worse first I take Nitrofurantoin 50mg that med.not working, when I take cipro, I feel better but I don't want the side effect, I have blood test on Monday 17 Nov.
I had another uti and was given cipro before surgery and when the culture cameback 4-8he called and ordered a round of antibitios, nitrofurantoin MCR 50 mg C, 4 per day for 5 days and then one at bedtime for 30 days.
Today at his office 4-9-10 he said diag was chronic follicular cystitis. and sections reveal urinarybladder mucosa. underlying small cystic areas are present lined by benign-appering urothelius. lymphoid aggregate with germinal center formation is present within the mucosa.
t be alarmed if there are some things out of the blue and not to confuse it with endo recovery. I would look up the side effects of cipro so you can have an idea. Let me go look on my blog as I am sure I posted about this antibiotic after my surgery. The worst thing you can do is panic. Try to remain calm as the more you work yourself up the harder the healing process will be and you will be clenching your muscles and they will start to contract. Did they give you any pain meds?

I am right here with you girl. I had lap surgery last Wednesday and had a big nodule on my ureters excised, as well as polyps on my cervix and scar tissue from my last surgery. I have a bladder infection now as well and am on Cipro. Don't mess around, if the antibiotic doesn't work soon, go back. I am in full spasm and in the worst pain i have EVER experienced.
It took one three day dose of Keflex and two doses of Cipro to get rid of it completely. I am left with leakage only after peeing and dull pain and sometimes a knife like pain in the lower urethra. My doctor's answer to my questions, are, "I don't know". I do not have a UTI now but he has given me another dose of Cipro for five days and now I'm taking nitrofurantoin for a month.
We’ve since been on 1 round of nitrofurantoin and 2 rounds of cipro (first a 7 day and then a 10 day). She’s had no other symptoms but itching. We go back for urine test in am and I’m sure she still has the bacteria as she is itching. All the tests showed either a small amount or moderate amount of blood but all tests were negative for nitrates and leukocytes. The enterococus keeps increasing with each round of antibiotic.
I am given a weeks course of nitrofurantoin. Meanwhile I take STD tests for Gonorrhea, chlamydia, UTI and HIV etc. All of these came back negative.
Week 3 -
Symptoms are persistant - particularly the burning sensation. I am then given a weeks course of Ciprofloxacin, which makes little difference. I am also given a Fluconazole tablet for Thrush (just in case.
UTI's can happen. I hope that this has resolved and am sorry you didn't get a timely answer. Cipro normally will knock that out. Did you ever get symptoms from it?
I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?

Go to my doctor again - the doctor said she gave me antibiotics already and refused to see me !
I would ask the doctor and/or pharmacist if the tingling will go away after she gets off the Nitrofurantoin and if so then if she can tolerate it and it is working well then you can either up to dose of neurontin or try to tolerate it until the antibiotic is finished. If not then switch. I would not go off anything until talking to the doctor. Depending on the dose of Gabapin, she may have to taper off of it as you cannot go off of it immediately. You will get rebound insomina.
I just had an uti I was 15w and I was prescribed nitrofurantoin. I looked it up, it's commonly given to pregnant woman. I wouldn't take something if it said not to on the bottle. They don't know if it's safe there hasn't been studies done on pregnant women..
9 days ago Nitrofurantoin (200g a day for 5 days) was taken and daily birth control (Qlaira). Both are known to decrease levels of haptoglobin but nothing about complete depletion.
Could this be an extended effect from Nitrofurantoin? When should the test be repeated ?
I have just got to 3 days on nitrofurantoin for uti, dizziness and headache got too bad as side effects. And now I'm losing my hearing too, no wax. It's inside and pain all over my face. Still dizzy, hearing been getting worse all day. Very quick. It's definitely the nitrofurantoin. I wondered as it says it can swell the salivary glands, cause sore throats and constant cold if it's to do with thst or a part of the nerve damage side effect? Did it resolve for you?
It came back with a high white blood cell count. They treated me for a UTI and gave me Nitrofurantoin to take 3 times a day for 7 days. The symptoms where much less while on the medication but within 5 days of finishing the treatment all my symptoms where back. I went back to my FP, they did another urine analysis and also a culture, The analysis came back with high white blood cell count, but the culture was negative. They treated me again, for a UTI this time with Cipro.
I have recently been feeling unwell and have recurring UTI’s and been on Nitrofurantoin. I also take levothyroxine for an under active thyroid.
I recently had a LFT and my ALT was 934. My GGT was 140 and bilirubin 37.
I am having an urgent scan tomorrow but the drs seem at a loss as to what is causing this? Any advice or help?
