1063764 tn?1272821064 Most flush-free niacin isn't very strong, especially niacinamide, which probably does nothing. So if you're going to try large doses, you might have to endure the flush. You also should do this in conjunction with your physician or a naturopath, as too much niacin can be dangerous. It can also affect your levels of other B vitamins. I've heard of it being used for anxiety, and it does calm the heart. It energizes those who need it, so I don't know about it making you tired.
Avatar f tn I want to take benadryl to orevent a niacin flush, but im worried the niacin wont work.
Avatar f tn Niacin in most people causes the face to flush/blush. No flush Niacin is readily available OTC. A word of caution, however, Niacin is a B3 and B3's are known to elevate blood sugars. Test your bs often and on a regular basis.
Avatar f tn Don't know if this will help or not... My latest blood tests says my Thyroid levels are now perfect. I take 65mg Iron pills 2X/day, 250mg Niacin 3X/day. I also take a few other pills where liver and kidney functions must be watched. So far everything is working good! My Iron is still a bit low but we're waiting on the next blood test in three months before we adjust that again. I take Niacin to lower my cholesterol.
Avatar f tn Are you taking any medications, either prescription or OTC that contain niacin? Niacin can cause flushing which happens when our blood vessels expand (which niacin is used for) and the blood rises closer to our skin which can cause really intense sensations of heat, extreme itching and a deep red "flush" of color to our skin which is usually limited to the upper portion of our bodies...........chest, neck, arms and head. I'm afraid that pretty much sums up my guesses.
Avatar n tn I took 500mg of niacin the reagular kind not the no flush kind It did cause me to have a niacin flush (which is typical)...it has never caused me trouble with mainia only made me flush wich eased anxiety and caused me to be tired afterwards...It might affect others diffently though. Nician is a B vitamin and B vitmins can cause you to more energetic you shouldn't take them in excess esp if you have bipolar....
Avatar n tn Timed-release niacin is commonly prescribed to prevent arterioschlerosis. It acts as a mild vasodilator, relaxing the blood vessels and improving the microcirculation. The "fast-acting" niacin causing flushing of the face and sometimes itching. There should be no problems whatsoever with discontinuing niacin "cold-turkey" , nor should there be any withdrawal symptoms.
725248 tn?1316162245 and what would I use??? I had heard taking the no flush niacin works. Can anyone confirm this or give me any advice.
2019697 tn?1334150247 There is a "flush free" Niacin available. I purchased this flush free with inositol. It is a 400 mg dose that I take twice a day. the B Complex I take is 100 mg. I went off the xanax last Saturday and have been fine. I was only on a very low dose of .25 mg/day at night but was on it for about 2 months. I didnt experience any withdraw symptoms. I would first check with your doctor before trying to go off the xanax and onto a supplement.
Avatar m tn valve replacement 2001, redid bypasses. I was on 40mg Lipitor and 500mg no-flush niacin for a number of years with moderate sucess. I subscribe to the Cleveland Clinic Heart Newsletter. In the July 2007 issue there was suggestion that 1,500mg niacin was a good statin supplement. Starting in July 2007 I followed this suggestion, taking 1,500mg slow-release niacin with the Lipitor. I have biannual blood tests.
Avatar f tn Odd, but I've never really felt the "flush" so many people describe when I take my prescription Niacin (500 mg). I think I might have felt a very mild flush the very first time I took it, but its been completely unnoticeable for me since then. Maybe I've got a bad batch or something.
1495437 tn?1288798915 ll get a slight flush, like s mild sunburn. Before you take the Niacin, spend the day drinking decaf green tea/any tea, take some tumeric (which has amazing antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties) avoid sugar! and drink plants of water/take a good multivitamin (trader joes makes a good one!) Honestly Niacin has helped me clear up my KP and my acne, and has made it loads better, as well as reducing spiderveins. You really need to take it responsibly though.
Avatar n tn I had low HDL for at least 30 years. Tried Lipitor and didn't like the side affects. Now this might sound like I'm a crank but I started eating an avocado a day (1/2 if they are really big) and over a period of about 6 - 9 months my HDL rose significantly and has stayed high much to the surprise of the doctors who are sceptical but acknowledge that something has done it.
Avatar f tn No extra niacin. It only rarely happens. I just keep feeling worse each time.... Thanks for the suggestions!
Avatar m tn My son, a robust 50, and me a one -stent 84, tried low-dose niacin. It knocked him sick; it gave me a bearable flush for 20-30 minutes. We both dropped it.
718651 tn?1237042917 niacin is a vitamin b complex, and it helps boost your cholesterol(hdl)i dont know if it will help with your situation.are you trying to pass a drug test or are you trying to lessen the withdrawals.

Avatar f tn hi wow that's a lot to carry, try a niacin flush (not with time release) do it the old fashion way ,put on cotton and get ready to burn up, don't worry it don't last long ,you will get red too if it to much a cool shower will help, what it does is remove built up toxics in the body I am not a professional but you know one thing its coming from inside of you ,please be loving and kind to yourself you have been thought a lot ...
Avatar n tn need help. i have been on vytorin for 4 years and on routine blood tests, my cpk has been in the 500-700 range for all 4 years (2 blood draws a year). I am asymptomatic. This past Jan, i added "flush free niacin" to my morning meds/supplements, and in July i noted my cpk was 1000. Still asymptomatic. In the past, I stopped working out for a couple of weeks and stopped statins for 2 weeks, and when rechecked, the CPK's were still in the 700 range.
Avatar m tn There are plenty of natural ways to bring down your cholestral levels....are you taking flush free niacin? For your liver and pancrease take Alma - juice or pills. Also Ginger and tumeric are excellent to take also. A diabetic should be watching what they eat - are you? My father was diabetic and it was awful because he made it that way. Read...get online....look up these levels and what you can do homeopathically to take them down.
Avatar m tn I don't think you have herpes. i've personally been with about 20 prostitutes and have had severe itching of the anus/gooch area. i came back negative for all std's. std's are more of a mental game. as long as you excercise you will not have std's. if you are concerned right now, there is something you can do: buy niacin pills at any grocery store. make sure you don't get "flush free", because you want to flush your system.
479244 tn?1271563659 (uh oh) Anyway, I checked and found that someone with liver disease (I have mild inflamation and no fibrosis) should not take over 35 mgs. of niacin per day. This stuff I bought at the drug store has 25 mgs. of niacin. Is is all they had , but I am thinking about returning it. IYO - is it safe for me to take this or should I return and look for plain ol B12 liquid.
Avatar n tn Hiya, Chris. - I got hold of some nitro and saw a big drop in SBP and DBP. Same with Imdur. - the first time I took arginine, I saw a modest drop in BP. - but there is a study that shows increased **death** in MI patients taking arginine - another study in PAD showed less NO synthesis after longterm usage, while short term use usually shows increased NO - how are you defining "fluid free"? - is niacin flushing due to NO?
Avatar n tn My face is constantly flushed, along with my chest. My entire face is pink and warm to the touch. The tops of my forearms and my lower legs both have a ruddy complexion. If scratched, a white streak shows up in contrast to the red that stays for about 10 minutes. If rubbed, the whole area becomes pale for about 10 minutes until the blood returns. My face is different. If my face is scratched or rubbed, it only gets more flushed. Nothing I've done improves it.
