niaspan

Avatar n tn I don't know if this helps you..but in layman's terms...niacin B3 is needed to create energy for metabolism. Are you having problems with weight gain or loss?
Avatar m tn Gee, thanks for noticing, "Jack". I actually LOST a bet over in weight-loss and dieting!!! I'm 3lbs OVER for the bet (big day is TODAY). Looks like I'm gonna have to make a clown video and post it on YouTube. Ugh. Unless, I can "forget" to do it, eh? BTW, where were you with the 5 weight-loss supplements that really work when I needed them??? JK!
Avatar m tn You can consume alcohol and spicy foods apart from your use of niacinfor example, having a glass of wine at 7 p.m. and then taking niacin at 9 p.m. Only a few people will have more flushing due to the combination.
Avatar m tn t have enough self control to lose any weight. I had muscle pain and memory loss with statins, flushing and finally facial swelling with niacin supplements. The memory loss was so bad, I sold my veterinary practice and retired BEFORE the lawsuit. I ran for exercise until I wore out my left knee, now I walk. Again, these labs are before any medication.
Avatar n tn Hello, You are right in saying that statins may cause memory loss. Statin drugs cause terrible side effects for some users, including mental confusion, memory loss and a general loss of mental focus. The cardiovascular benefits of statins are well established, but the effects of these agents on the human brain are not as well established. The more lipid-soluble the statin, the greater propensity it has to cross the blood-brain barrier and affect the central nervous system.
Avatar n tn For two years I took Zocor for the purpose of lowering my Cholesterol. When I complained to my doctor about my body aching all over she suggested I discontinue using the Zocor for several weeks. As time passed I realized a lessening of body aches so I decided not to go back on the Zocor. It has now been 5 months since I have taken Zocor. Meanwhile, I have been losing weight (about 5 pounds) without changing my diet. I realized that my pants were baggy in the thighs and seat.
1063764 tn?1272821064 I was watching a documentary and heard about a case where a woman was put on niacin supplements for depression. She was taking very large dosages, but it completely pulled her out of her depression. So far fluoxetine has helped me, but I think in time I will need a larger dosage. I would really rather not do that, so my question is: is it safe to take niacin supplements of 100 mg daily plus an extra multivitamin with 20mg. I don't want to end up taking too many vitamins.
Avatar n tn May be time to try behavioral modification (if available) or other more aggressive weight loss methods -- there are no medications that will be safe/effective for this problem.
Avatar f tn That said, your TSH appears high and combined with your symptoms of weight gain, tiredness, memory loss and dry skin I would say you are hypothyroid and need to start on medication for that. You may want to see a specialist (an Endocrinologist) experienced with treating thyroid disorders. Don't delay treating this. The thyroid impacts pretty much your whole body and if it isn't functioning correctly, you are going to have extensive issues that will only get worse.
Avatar m tn Niacin is important for the conversion of carbohydrates, protein and fat into energy! Adults need about 16 milligrams a day. Almonds, Niacin Content: 1 oz, 1 mg Daily Value: 6%. Eat them right before you go the gym. Their high in L-arginine that can actually boost your carb and fat burn during your workout. Navy Beans, Niacin: 1/2 cup, 1.5 mg Daily Value: 9%. They contain resistant starch, a type of fiber that boosts calorie burn by up to 23%.
Avatar m tn Having Chromium and Niacin listed as separate ingredients would not be the same as Chromium Picolinate. Separately, (Niacin would be niacin and Chromium would be Chromium plus one of the chelators). It can get very confusing, but with all of that said, per the National Institute of Health "...given the limited data on chromium absorption in humans, it is not clear which forms are best to take.
1135275 tn?1586565652 Niacin is toxic in too high a dose. Niacinamide isn't, and so that's usually used for mental health purposes, but it doesn't yield a lot of niacin. Niacin will also give you a hot flush on your skin, unless you buy a non-flush niacin, which is usually, again, niacinamide. Niacin is usually used for the heart.
Avatar n tn I am 32 years old, and took Niacin, 3 capsules at one time, because a friend said it would cleanse my body of toxins, and is very healthy. I was 18 years old when I took it... I still have hyperpigmentation all over my body, especially my thighs, arms, torso, and back. I'm not talking about a couple little spots, I am talking about thousands. Since they had appeared, I have been unable to wear short sleeve shirts, or shorts, or tank tops, or anything else that would show them body parts.
Avatar f tn I've read conflicting articles saying that niacin is necessary for thyroid function and then some that say it can lower thyroid levels and cause liver damage. I've seen it in some iron supplements and wondered if I needed to stay away from it or if it would be good to take.
1765695 tn?1313669583 Jibs thank you so much for the information I am loving this site already. I know diet has gotta have an impact too, do you know of any foods that are good for hair as well along with the supplements?
Avatar f tn even cardiologists that are interested in prevention are recommending fish oil to lower triglycerides (and niacin to raise HDL). But if there's a lot of ice cream etc all the time, that's your culprit. This does though, relate to a question I've had but never seen answered: if a person is on weight-loss reduced calorie diet, then what's to prevent the fish oil (or other nutrients like glucosamine, e.g.) from being burned as fuel?
Avatar f tn His early work led to the use of niacin for schizophrenia and as an cholesterol treatment. Dr. Hoffer died in 2009 at the age of 91, but he successfully treated many thousands of patients with high dose niacin for psychotic disorders. He presented some very compelling evidence to support treating most psychotic disorders as a vitamin B3 deficiency.
1375932 tn?1279301132 t want weight gain, and that is a strong potential with Elavil. I need loss, not gain! For now, I use Xanax for the emotional component, since I retired from the "glass of wine" when I started nitro. Just as well. I wish there were a vasodialating anti-depressant to try. I tried Buspirone, but the CP didn't disappear.
718651 tn?1237042917 I was thinking today of if taking niacin would make the opiate come out of your system faster... i've heard of people taking higher doses to get drugs out of their system to pass a UA.. has anyone tried this?? or do you think it will work??
475570 tn?1280941363 I just want to add that this was a study of Niaspan - the time release version of Niacin - and not Niacin.
Avatar n tn i have had very high cholestrol, i have worked on losing weight and exercising, eating healthy too, i've also had niacin b3 in my diet, i came across a homeopathic medication and many others ive posted on here, i havent yet checked my cholestrol levels but i believe this will work, again i have pasted a link below fromt he internet about this http://www.ijpsonline.com/article.asp?
Avatar m tn There is also niacin (look for non flush niacin) and L-carnitine. And of course look at your diet. You can check out what to eat and avoid on this article from Authority Nutrition: A Paleo Diet Meal Plan and Menu That Can Save Your Life. After a bad diet, hypothyroidism is the second most common cause of elevated cholesterol. Genetics is under 1% of cases. It's worth trying out some natural methods first. Statins have a list of side effects a mile long. *** "...
