think I must be going crazy. After having throat/ear issues for over a month, I went to the doctor 10 days ago. He said I had a ton of fluid behind my ears and there was inflammation. He also said that my right ear drum looked really dull. He thinks my issues are being caused by a sinus infection. I've been taking Nasonex and antibiotics for 11 days and am still having problems. Here is where I think it gets weird. My ear bothers me when I go outside even for just a few minutes.
I've had a cold brought on from allergies for over a week. It caused fluid to build up in my left ear. I've been given lots of sample allergy pills and told to get Mucinex to help remove the fluid but neither has worked. Then I was given a prescription for an antibiotic which has not worked. I've tried all the home remedies to remove the fluid....ear drops, hair dryer blown at ear, heat pack on ear, popping my ears (which I tried and failed to do).
It does not sound like the antibiotic and Nasonex are working for you since you are still congested and you still have the ear/jaw pain. It is possible that you have a chronic sinusitis or you may be allergic to something (like a seasonal allergy). Either way, since you have had a failed course of antibiotics, I think you would benefit from an evaluation by an ENT.

I wake up every morning with what feels like lots of phelgm in my throat, and since I sleep on my right side, there is some fluid that seems to build up in my right ear. Nothing ever comes out of my ear but when I lift my ear off the pillow there is a suctioning sound, and when I wiggle my finger in there I hear stuff. I also get a flutter felling in my ear sometimes. Whew...........My main concern is the phlegm/mucous in my throat.
Detection of glucose in the sample fluid has been a traditional method for detection of the presence of CSF in nasal and ear discharge. But this is not confirmatory as it can show false positivity. The beta-2 transferrin assay is the test of choice because of its high sensitivity and specificity. Also, nasal inspection by Nasal Endoscopy is mandatory. So, don't worry and discuss these options with your doctor.

Inflammation in the nose and sinuses can cause inflammation around the Eustachian tube, which is the tube that runs from the back of the nose to the middle ear and is responsible for draining the middle ear of fluid. If there is Eustachian tube dysfunction from nose or sinus inflammation, fluid can remain in the middle ear which can lead to dizziness. So, therapy for this lies in treating the underlying sinusitis.
HAD BURNING IN MY EARS AND DR TOLD ME I HAD A BLOCKED EAR CANAL FROM SINUS IN THE ONE EAR AND THRUSH IN THE OTHER EAR AND PRESCRIBED KENACOMB OPTIC AFTER 2 DAYS I HAVE THE SAME MUFFLED SOUND IN MY RIGHT EAR AND ITS GETTING WORSE AND BOTH MY EARS ARE IN PAIN. GOT GIVEN NASONEX NASAL SPRAY TO CAUSE APPARENTLY I HAVE A Sinus abnormality anc sinus infection. I live in the outback so have no access to a ear specialist. Please help.
symptoms, along with some jaw soreness and soreness to pressure/touch inside the ear canal (outer canal only...not going into the ear canal) I am thinking that I only need to give it a few more days for everything to clear up, but am looking for any other advice or things I should be watching for? Thank you. Also, if the nasonex has been working, should I expect flonase to be as effective (it is quite a bit less expensive in generic.
Hey! My throat has been irritated for about a month and the right side felt like it was a little swollen when I would swallow. I've also been having a bit of an earache, off and on, and recently started getting pain in my ear while chewing food. It was to the point this morning where I couldn't really open my mouth all the way because of my ear hurting.
They come on without any warning. I have had dozens of earaches since I was a child-----Now I no longer get ear aches really--- they have taken a turn--they simply go into a rupture without any warning. I am 50 years old . I had impacted wisdom teeth in my early twenties---they were removed----could some of the fluid still be in my jaw bone---I have very tight jaws that are getting worse all the time.
Finally after waking up the other morning, and It hurt to open my jaw all the way, I went to the doctor. He said I have a lot of inflammation and a ton of fluid behind my ears. He said my right ear looked especially bad. He thinks the ear and throat issues are being caused by a sinus infection. He prescribed Nasonex and a Z-pak. Well after taking it for a couple days I could feel a lot of fluid sloshing around in my ears that won't come out.
God seems to have troubled you with quite a few to handle.Sorry for that.But what falls prominently in my eye,is that you have blocked sinuses which should be treated medically or surgically (using a technique called FESS).Your fluid in the ear (though I don't understand how can the pressure be normal if there was fluid in the ear.. doesn't happen that way) would require a myringotomy and grommet insertion to relieve the symptoms if they are not responding to medications.
So there is negative pressure created inside the middle ear leading to accumulation of fluid inside as the secretion can not drain into the nasal cavity because of the blockage of the tube. This accumulation of fluid causes ear blockage as well as ringing in the ear.
It is usually very irritating but you can reduce it by taking stem inhalation 3-4 times per day and drink plenty of warm water. Try taking the following medicines:

hi i can not hear in my right ear, have a feeling of water in my head, clicking in both ear EVERY time i swollow, and headaches that last for the day and my eyes feel lick they are too big for the sockets.I can "POP" my ear open an d hear perfectly for about a 30 sec period. I saw the end of THE DOCTORS and the person had the same symptoms and there was a surgery to open the eustation tubes with a baloon. Any idea what my problem is??
He put me on Nasonex, a steroid nasal spray, to reduce the inflammation. I also hear my heartbeat in my ear at times, and he's hoping that a month on Nasonex will stop that. If not, he'll do a CT scan and other work to see what's going on.
Here's my question: Are any of you using something like Nasonex or Flonase? I do have a headache behind my eyes and feel tired a lot, but I had that before too.
I went to the hospital like 3 wks ago and they told me i had sinusitis and ear fluid in my ear! i took the medication they gave me but i still feel the same.And from all of this im getting sick from my nerves,i get very nervous!!!Recently i went to a family doctor and he said that he does see that im a little congested from my nose!So he gave me some pills for that but i still feel the pressure in my nose and throat! And i read on the pills that its for seasonal allergies!!!
Soon enough I went to visit a doctor about it who took a look at my ears and told me they were perfectly fine but he gave me some xyzal and nasonex nose spray. After taking both the noise began to slowly fade away but this odd feeling in my ear has still persisted and every time I yawn I can still feel the slight uncomfortable/pain at the left side of my neck.
I just started using Nasonex (steroid nasal spray), and it really helps my allergies and sinus headache, and eye-related sinus problems. But I also have PVCs and my heart pounds a lot (can feel it in my head, back, etc). I'm wondering whether Nasonex is safe to take long term if I have these heart issues. Doctor just shrugged his shoulders when I asked. Anyone know?
Only two things over the past year and a half have somewhat worked. I tried using Nasonex and it worked great for about 4 days. The fluid seemed to drain out and my nasal bridge narrowed. Then i threw up one morning and the Nasonex hasn't worked since. Nasal corticosteroids are ineffective. I took antihistamines and that didn't work either. The other thing that worked for about 3 or 4 days was a lymphatic system cleanser.
Went to general practice doctor on October 17, 2015 and was told I had fluid in my Eustachian tube, prescribed Nasonex and told to take Sudafed; if not better in a few days to follow up with an ENT. Later that night I lost all hearing in my left ear. First thing Monday morning, October 19, 2015, I made an appt with ENT as my sense of balance was so off and all the while I have a non-weight bearing cast on my left foot (broken 5th metatarsal bone) making things especially difficult.
they found nothing but a little allergy reaction to something. the ear nose throat doctor was the one who put him on the nasonex, every thing else checked out with him too.i didnt think it was meningitis becouse my family doctor checked his glands and neck stiffness.i do know that he did have the fungas on his scalp but i wasnt sure about all the other problems if they could be related to that also.
I also told him that I had stopped all medication except the Nasonex which made me feel better.He did ear pressur test which were in the -270 range and hearing tests which showed the left ear had some loss of hearing compared to the right.He started me on steroids for 5 days and that did nothing. Next he set me up for tubes in the ear. This has cleared up the pressure feeling of being in an airplane but now I feel like I was in water and can't get it out of my ears.
