Common Questions and Answers about Namenda with aricept

namenda

Avatar n tn my mum was diagnosed with alzaheimer in October 2008, she was prescriped dogmatile fort 200, aricept, trittico and lustral, I wonder if this combination goes well as she is more depessed since she took the medication.
Avatar n tn Hi Margypops, Axona is a brand-new prescription therapy launched in March 2009 for the treatment of mild-moderate Alzheimer's disease. As Alzheimer's is marked by a decrease in glucose in the brain (the primary source of food for the brain), Axona acts by providing/metabolizing glucose in the body to act as an alternate source of food for the brain.
Avatar f tn Are these mood swings and memory issues somehow related or located in the same area of the brain? Would taking Namenda and Aricept together help? Is there any type of anti-depression/anti-anxiety medication that has been found to work better in patients with MS? I have been on Zoloft, Effexor, and Cymbalta, at the highest recommended doses and none of them seem to help after about 10 weeks. Thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn JJ, I did find the same study as you when I did a search for MS and Namenda XR. There are several studies that show negative results with people with MS. The symptoms for ones with MS are worsening symptoms. The neuros know which medications that I'm on, so they should be able to tell if one of them would cause increases in symptoms or new issues.
Avatar n tn I have tardive dyskinesia which is clinically similar to Parkinson's and I have tardive akathesia which is similar to restless legs syndrome but it would depend on the cause of it. If its clinically similar to Parkinson's, I did not find Bachlophen, Mirapex, Aricept and Requip to be of help but many people do. I was ruled out for Tetrabenzene and Namenda but those have shown to be of help.
Avatar n tn No need to worry. I used to teach classes on different Alzheimer's Medical treatments/medicines and know these meds better than the reps that sold them. Namenda is an add on Alzheimer's medication use to help glutamate regulation in the brain. The standard dose in 20mg a day after titration, so taking three 5mg tablets is not a problem.
1030383 tn?1338460785 As for treating tardive, standard options include Bachofen, Aricept, Requip and Mirapex. More experimental options include Namenda, Tetrabenzene and Zofran. Vimpat has been helpful in me and will be written up in a case study but that's a clinical first literally. One natural remedy that if supervised by a neurologist can be markedly helpful is rhodiola. Botox shots for focal dystonia are helpful if it is limited to one area.
Avatar f tn t know anything about that - all I know is that before Aricept, I was in a gray mist, and after five months of Aricept, everything seemed to make more sense. Before Aricept, it was as if I had low water pressure - I just couldn't get enough juice in my brain to put thoughts together. On Aricept, suddenly my brain could make connections. The only trippy thing I noticed was an almost hi-def moire behind my eyeballs when I went to sleep.
704043 tn?1298056844 It's used to treat cognitive impairment with Alzheimer's. I'm not sure why the drug works for MS patients... It was like when you have low water pressure in the house, so you turn the water up higher. It was kinda like that - I wasn't processing with all my brain, but the parts that were working, were working overtime.
Avatar f tn Made an appt. with neuro to ask about Aricept. Thought it would be worth a trying, especially since it's now in generic form. Don't want to be on it (mainly b/c of stigma), but would love to get some help with cognitive issues. Much better now than a yr. ago, but still not as good as should be. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar f tn My husband has been taking 10mg of Aricept for 2 years now and I have not noticed any significant difference in his memory. Actually, my observation is his memory is becoming worse. I'm struggling with whether I should discontinue the medication since I don't see improvement and because it is quite costly. I also know Aricept is designed to slow down the dementia so if I discontinue it I'm wondering if he will become worse much faster.
Avatar m tn If a person has not been diagnosed with alzheimers but is taking aricept, is it okay? will it hurt to be taking it?
211940 tn?1267881266 The test results were inconclusive, but she was left with cog fog, and took Aricept for a few months until she felt more like herself. So I argued with the neurologist and got a prescription for Aricept. I think current research supports that Aricept does not *fix* cog fog. And I agree - it didn't 'fix' mine either. What it did was the equivalent of turning the water up when you're watering the garden and need more water pressure.
Avatar n tn I think you should discuss with your PCP regarding a drug called Aricept. This should be started only on prescription of your treating physician. It is used for treatment of Alzheimer’s, but is helpful for short term memory loss. Aricept is a drug of choice to treat Alzheimer's, but its use is not restricted. It has been observed that Aricept improves cognition and function, which includes effects on memory and performing everyday tasks, hence it would have been prescribed.
338416 tn?1420045702 I have no diagnosis, but my problems with concentration and clear thinking are what trouble me most. Good luck with the Aricept, I hope you update us on how it goes. Is is really ok to just keep an eye on Seizures? I have an epileptic brother, maybe your seizures are not nearly on the same scale but I hope you are in no danger from them and that there is some way to get them under control.
Avatar f tn My neighbors doctor prescribed fluoxetine and namenda before MRI being done.test came back no signs of alzheimers disease. Should she continue to take ? She is 80 years old somewhat forgetful nothing to make you say you can't function she is 80.
Avatar n tn He is on Namenda and Plavix, is it possible that Adderall could help with his short term memory loss. Before the accident he lived on his own.
338416 tn?1420045702 If we are driving down the road and see a pothole, we just drive around it. Same with our brain - it learns to drive around the damage area. Giffords recovery is inspiring.
Avatar n tn What could be causing me to have all of them. I am under pretty good control as I take neurontin and namenda. Before I was put on namenda i was having rhizotomies almost every three months due to the excruciating pain.
649926 tn?1297657780 If anyone has scoop on their experience with Aricept or any other cognition helping drug please take a minute to chime in.
Avatar f tn Standard medications for tardive dyskinesia include Mirapex, Aricept, Bachlophen, Namenda and Requip. Zofran is experimental in usage. Clonidine is helpful as well. Botox shots can be used for focal dystonia. I have found mitigation from the new anti-convulsant Vimpat but as I am literally a first responder I can't say whether it will work for other people or not. Rhodiola under a neurologist's supervision can be used.
