my husband just started on Namenda, starter doses, however, while I was at work today, he took 3 of the pills(5mg), should I be concerned? do I just have him continue tomorrow with the correct one pill in the morning? doesn''t seem to have any side effects.

I, like many of you, take handfuls of drugs just to live thru the day and suffer side effects from the drugs is just as debilitating as the pain. My doctor allowed me to try Namenda, which is a alzheimer drug that works by calming overactive neurons in the brain. There has been studies to see if it helped chronic pain and most of them showed it did not. I wanted to try it for myself and she allowed me too. My shrink also thought it was a good idea to try.
The doc who prescribed mentioned one tab in the am and one in the pm but I have heard from other people who take it that they find it better to take 200 mg in the am instead of splitting it into two doses.
I tried the am and pm option today but am beyond exhausted.
I would love to hear what anyone has found works best for them.

What could be causing me to have all of them. I am under pretty good control as I take neurontin and namenda. Before I was put on namenda i was having rhizotomies almost every three months due to the excruciating pain.
my grandfather wantws to put her on namenda,we tried it for a few weeks, but I saw3 her only become more hostile!! do you think a person at her age is really going to benefit from namenda at this stage?
She did a mini neuro/cognitive eval and said this may be something more than MS. Now she has prescribed Namenda XR for me. I googled it and it says it's for Alzheimers. I do have family that have/had dementia/Alzheimers. Does anyone else with MS take this??? Or do you know anyone with MS that takes it? From what I read, it makes symptoms worse with people who have MS. Sad face...

My mom's medication regeime has had risperdal added to it. She is alteady on zoloff and the standards for alzeheimer's including namenda. Since putting her on the risperdal she sleeps all the time, has had a to be restarted on blodd pressure medication and seems to be losing her mtor skills.
I am very concened about these changes and wonder if the risperdal is the right dosage or medicine.
First of all his doctor changed and titrated his blood pressure medications and also they found Namenda to be quite helpful.

I have tried many different ocd drug therapies, but have yet to try a glutamate modulating therapy such as Memantine (Namenda), Riluzole (Rilutek), N-acetyl cysteine, or amantadine. If anyone has information on or experience with any of the above medications, would you please share that with me? I am desperate.

Yes, Amitriptlyline can help your migraines, but it will take at least several weeks to work. Your other symptoms could be related to your migraines. If the Amitriptylene causes drowsiness, it should go away after awhile, or maybe you can go at a lower dose to start with. If the Amitriptylene doesn't work, there are other meds to try which can prevent your migraines. I have a very difficult migraine to treat, so none of the usual daily meds worked for me, but Botox worked wonders.
Is there any kind of help for people in the first stages of dementia beside Namenda.? Is there anything in the health food stores that can be taken.? And does vitamin B1 help.?
All she cares about is sex. The other day my boyfriends 15 year old sister stopped by and my mom gets on the computer looking at very graphic sexual pictures. She made no attempt to hide it either and now his sister is scared to come over anymore. Also a few days before, his other little sister was here watching a movie with me and my mom had a guy come over and went upstairs and was having really loud sex and she knew I had company. she didnt even bother to shut her door.
Ativan is an anti-anxiety medication. Seroquel (the brand name for the other medication you speak of) is an antipsychotic and from what the prescription label states it should not be used in people who are elderly who have dementia but you could discuss this with a neurologist, in the meantime look up the medication website. Namenda is one of several medications that helped some family members I know who have dementia.
He is delusional, on disability and is taking Zyprexa, Amantadine, Namenda, Cymbalta and excelon patch. Still, he seems to worsen. He now has symptoms of Parkinsons with balance issues. He is 55 years old - much to young to be this dibilitated. He was tremendously active, a college graduate who owned his own business. I just cannot accept that after beating all the odds and surviving we are now dealing with this. Do you have any suggestions?
