Common Questions and Answers about Namenda in autism

namenda

20003388 tn?1515166040 m just curious if anyone has been on Namenda and could tell me how long the initial brain fog lasted for you? I just started Namenda yesterday, 5 mg a day for 1 week then 10 mg a day in divided doses. I have memory issues and severe cognitive impairment. I was put on Namenda by a neurologist after a thorough examination. I expect the brain fog from starting Namenda up but am just trying to get a time frame for when I could expect the initial brain fog to wear off. Thanks everyone.
Avatar n tn No need to worry. I used to teach classes on different Alzheimer's Medical treatments/medicines and know these meds better than the reps that sold them. Namenda is an add on Alzheimer's medication use to help glutamate regulation in the brain. The standard dose in 20mg a day after titration, so taking three 5mg tablets is not a problem.
585414 tn?1288941302 Yes I am somewhat familiar with that. For example Namenda which is used to treat dementia is in clinical study as a mood stabilizer and to treat tardive dyskinesia. However as those medications specifically effect those receptors by mitigating their activity they work in an opposite manner to glycine and the NMDA receptor modulates.
Avatar f tn My neighbors doctor prescribed fluoxetine and namenda before MRI being done.test came back no signs of alzheimers disease. Should she continue to take ? She is 80 years old somewhat forgetful nothing to make you say you can't function she is 80.
Avatar n tn He is on Namenda and Plavix, is it possible that Adderall could help with his short term memory loss. Before the accident he lived on his own.
Avatar f tn I see your answer to the blue patches on the sclera; my mother in law has black patches at the 3 and 9 position. She is 94, has Alzheimer's, is taking aricept and namenda. can you indicate what causes the black areas?
Avatar n tn My father is 84 years old and has been having blackouts and passing out in the past year. He has been taken to the hospital for injuries from these spells. He becomes very combative and is disorienented after a spell and does recognize anyone. The doctors dismiss it because they can't find anything. After a good nights sleep he is back to himself and has no memory of the day before. They say it isn't his heart, there is no evidence of a stroke or dementia. Do you have any ideas?
5274485 tn?1385860167 Anytime a girl represents signs of Autism, her symptoms will be different than males. Girls with Autism tend to not show the reckless behavior which is observed in males. Autism affects girls different than males. The actual number of girls/women with Autism is not as often reported because the signs are often missed in female population.
Avatar n tn It is difficult to pin point the exact cause without clinical examination. Hope this helps you in identification of cause in your case.
Avatar f tn Specifically, ketamine was helpful to a patient with glossopharyngeal neuralgia, a pain disorder quite similar to trigeminal neuralgia, but involving the ninth cranial nerve instead of the fifth. The use of Namenda in all facial pain syndromes, headache, and other painful conditions is beginning to accelerate." END So it has been found effective is varying degrees for some ppl.
5274485 tn?1385860167 Girls with Autism have different symptoms in contrast to boys. Females with autism tend to withhold their symptoms and keep quiet. They are not as aggressive as boys are. Females are more likely to want more friends and play with dolls.
Avatar f tn If I may offer help, I know how your daughter feels I was in that situation 5 years ago with my 1st son. The doctors offerd me no help and a very late diagnosis which slowed things down. I did alot of research and still do alot. Please tell your daughter to get very very well informed about autism and options for help. There are huge breakthroughs on treatments the earlier the better the results. NO doctor will offer anything they never do just therapy. Please go to Autism one.

Avatar n tn s is marked by a decrease in glucose in the brain (the primary source of food for the brain), Axona acts by providing/metabolizing glucose in the body to act as an alternate source of food for the brain. It is an FDA-regulated therapy and is the only Alzheimer's treatment which can be used in conjunction with a patient's current medication (e.g., Aricept, Namenda, etc.). For more information I'd advise you to visit www.about-axona.com. Hope this information was useful.
Avatar m tn Anyhow, sorry to really rattle on here, but is there a site or 2 that would go more in depth as to recognizing autism signs in a preschool child that may have a forum or a number in which for her to call? I would, SHE would, really appreciate that.
Avatar f tn t say how old your daughter is. Autism does run in families, so if your son does have autism it is very possible that your daughter could be on the spectrum as well. I would reccomend the same thing for both children, a child psychologist or pediatric neurologist. Preferably one who specializes in autism.
Avatar n tn BTW my father in law has similar affect in that he thinks everyone is conspiring, lying etc. We cannot take him into our home for that reason as he gets physical and emotional outbursts and I am disabled so I cannot handle it. We left him home with caregivers as long as we could, but after so many police calls and caregiver issues, we finally had to place him in a home. Sad for us all.
Avatar n tn Does make eye contact but sometimes I feel like he is looking past me and not actually at me. He does smile at me when I smile at him. He has just started to giggle when I play the "Im gonna get you" game. He LOVES his older brother and giggles until he is out of breath when they play. He goo's and is starting to baby talk. He likes to be held for the most part. Sometimes when he is over tired or doesn't want to be held he arches his back and gets mad.
Avatar f tn Hey Kelly, nice to see you, though the reason su_cks! I've not heard of anyone or remember lol seeing it mentioned here, so i did a quick search and drugs .com states...... "In a trial testing the use of memantine (the active ingredient contained in Namenda XR) in MS patients with cognitive impairment, nine out of nineteen patients reported a worsening of their neurologic symptoms that deteriorated their quality of life.
Avatar n tn s very common for children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder to have co-morbid issues. My cousin was diagnosed at 3 in the 1988 with Autism, Bi-polar disorder, OCD and ADHD. The majority of people that I've personally worked with with developmental disabilities tend to have more than one issue. Go to autismspeaks.org they do wonderful things and educate people about autism awareness. best of luck!
Avatar n tn My mom's medication regeime has had risperdal added to it. She is alteady on zoloff and the standards for alzeheimer's including namenda. Since putting her on the risperdal she sleeps all the time, has had a to be restarted on blodd pressure medication and seems to be losing her mtor skills. I am very concened about these changes and wonder if the risperdal is the right dosage or medicine.
2171322 tn?1337279553 You can look to see if there are any Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) in your area who specialize in the treatment of very young children with autism at www.bacb.com. Best of luck.
Avatar n tn You can not suppress something that is natural in any human being show that this is not done in public and when you want it to be in his room in private. If you go to your room and you see what is making it ignore it and leave the room, the most important thing is to teach that there is a place for that.
15695260 tn?1549593113 For a very long time, the cause has been widely unknown and that this factors in is an important development in autism research. Prior studies had already implicated higher uterine concentrations of male sex hormones -- androgens -- in increasing the odds and now researchers and doctors have more information to better understand autism. At this time, research is being used to better understand autism rather than prevent it. https://www.webmd.
