Common Questions and Answers about Montelukast and asthma

singulair

Avatar n tn I took Montelukast (Singulair) for about one month and began having extreme nightmares and panic attacks. I stopped the montelukast immediately, and the nightmares stopped. But the panic attacks continue. I know others have had similar reactions, but I wonder if anyone has found out how to make the effects go away? I have been off the medication for over 3 months now.
Avatar f tn Only thing that works is Montair LC (montelukast) once in 24 hours. It stops my cough, breathlessness. I am not able to stop this medication and have been taking this for almost 3 months now. I have no other symptoms. I am not able to identify my allergy trigger since I cough through out the day, always, every where, though dust, artificial smells aggravate cough. Breathlessness and tightness in chest scare me. Should I check Asthma or COPD or anything else. Pl. advise.
Avatar m tn As, Singulair (montelukast) is used to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children. Singulair 10mg tablets contain the active ingredient montelukast, which is a type of medicine known as a leukotriene receptor antagonist. You may need regular inhaled corticosteroids and short-acting beta agonist such as salbutamol, to relieve your symptoms. Nebulization may help. Sometimes, steroids may be needed to control the symptoms.
Avatar f tn s what i usually do when i catch a flu and my asthma flares up. and usually my asthma and cough would go away for about a few days. but i noticed after a week of taking cough syrup w/ salbutamol that my coughing is not getting better. so i went to visit my doctor after a few days and by then i was on my second week with cough. she told me that i should focus on treating my asthma so i nebulized on that visit and prescribed me a inhaler. i felt the relief but my cough and breathing is still bad.

Xray for the sinus and chest were also ordered which resulted to bilateral nasal congestion and clear chest. The problem is, I have been experiencing symptom of dizziness. Avatar n tn This stuff works better than Mercks ( montelukast sodium ) except it has no side effects and its quicker and cheaper. Then kiss your and your sons Asthma goodby. No more coughing at any time in the for eather of you. bill103 ....
Avatar n tn The 2 classes are 1) inhaled steroids and 2) orally administered medicines that block biochemical asthma pathways involved in asthma worsening, an example of which is Singulair® (montelukast sodium). A third group of asthma medicines commonly used are, medicines similar to Xopenex® Inhalation Solution (levalbuterol) but long acting for 8 to 12 hours. These medicines might or might not result in hyperactivity and should be the last to be considered, especially for a young child. Good luck.
Avatar f tn While in India a pulmonologist at a good hospital diagnosed me with allergies and asthma (spiro something test before and after a med). I suddenly had developed wheezing and coughing after exposure to some toxic paint plus for a couple of years when I climb stairs I am short of breath. He said to take meds for a month at one dose and for another month at a half dose and to thereafter see another pulmonologist.

Avatar m tn At January 2011, my IgE was 1923 IU/ml. I took medicines named Fexofenadine Hydrochloride 180 mg (0+0+1), Montelukast 10 mg (1+0+0) and Flixonase Nasal Spray according to doctors' advice. But I stopped continuing medicine after 2 month when I felt well. After that, I used to catch cold all the year round. At december 2011, I became ill seriouly and went to the same doctor. According to test of December 2011, my IgE is 1590 IU/ml. My doctor says, I have been suffering from Rhino-Sinusitis.
Avatar m tn One thing I might mention - an anxiety attack to me felt different from asthma. Asthma would make me cough and wheeze, and anxiety would feel like someone was sitting on my chest and I couldn't get my lungs "full." I'm sure everyone experiences these things differently but maybe you can notice a difference between the attacks.
Avatar f tn The doctor said I would be fine because I still had enough blood oxygen and prescribed me an emergency inhaler, conditional inhaler, and montelukast to take in tandem with my allergy pill to make sure this wont continue and it doesn't happen again. Well it's one day after I began my meds and I still can't breathe fully and I'm still in pain in my upper chest and throat. Should I trust the doc or should I go to the hospital?
Avatar f tn That you need to take this inhaler frequently or regularly, is an indication that your asthma is not well controlled and that you should be on one or more long-acting medicines for it. Two that would not affect your heart rate would be an inhaled steroid, such as Flovent® HFA Inhalation Aerosol (fluticasone propionate) or another medicine taken by mouth Singulair® (montelukast sodium). You should ask your doctor about these. Good luck.

Avatar f tn I also take Fexofenadine and Montelukast tablets daily. The reaction seems stronger and quicker to garlic - an anaphylatic reaction and lesser to aloe vera - which only gives me face swelling and redness. Is there any way to lessen the increasing and debilitating allergic reaction? Someone has suggested hypnosis but I do not think this is a way forward as this seems to be a physiological problem. I am open to suggestions which I will ask my consultant about.
Avatar f tn Went through a period of time when I had three sinus infections, one after another. I was diagnosed with allergy induced asthma as well although I don't take the montelukast I was prescribed. Is it possible that my nose shape has anything to do with this? Or is the redness a skin problem and the allergies environmental? Honestly, the redness bothers me more than the annoying breathing problems. I also have autoimmune thyroiditis, unsure if that is related to redness.
Avatar m tn I went to a doc who said it was probably asthma and prescribed formoterol/budesonide and montelukast sodium. A few months later, my bedroom was treated for termite infestation, the fumes of which I presumed cleared up after about 4 days. After returning to my bedroom for a few nights, I woke up in a panic with severe SOB.
Avatar f tn I had this cough for almost three weeks now, it started with just a simple cold and turned to an all out asthma attack. Which is not new for me. I have asthma and I only have attacks when I caught a flu or cold and I usually just drink salbutamol cough syrup and it would go away after a few days. But now I had it for 3 weeks. and the doctor told me to start using an inhaler twice a day. Then I was told to take ventollin expectorant I took it but nothings happening to my cough.
Avatar f tn however, a specific pattern and relationship to montelukast has not been established. Healthcare providers should report any prenatal exposures to the montelukast pregnancy registry at (800) 986-8999. Pregnancy Considerations Maternal use of cetirizine (Zyrtec) has not been associated with an increased risk of major malformations. The use of antihistamines for the treatment of rhinitis during pregnancy is generally considered to be safe at recommended doses.
Avatar m tn He can express very limited needs nonverbally (take someone by hand and show water or cookies). He doesn’t understand pointing at things. He throws violent tantrums and bangs his head without any apparent reason. He spends most of his time running around or climbing when he has a good mood. He doesn’t have any interest in nutritious food. He has poor eye contact. We don’t have any development pediatrician in Bangladesh. We are in desperate need of help and guidance.
Avatar f tn About a year ago I developed what I thought was the flu. I went to the dr. Who gave me antibiotics. It went away for a few days but then came back. My symptoms were running nose, nasal drainage down my throat filling my lungs with gunk, and subsequent cough. After 3 more trips to my family Dr. and three more, and different antibiotics, I demanded something was wrong and I'm not taking any more antibiotics. I went to see an ENT and he said it was my deviated septum causing the problems.
Avatar m tn never been on pumps/inhalers never used inhaled corticosteroids but have used antibiotics almost consistently every time i have a chest infection doctors prescribed antibiotics this time as well as well as a corticosteroid nasal spray which i used for the first time but only once and discontinued as it improved my symptoms with a single dose also fexofenadine and montelukast, unicontin e (a methyl xanthine drug bronchodilator) after the pollen season peaked symptoms usually subside and i am vir
