I was very surprised and pleased when the new rx arrived in the mail - Provigil has now gone generic, and Modafinil (the generic name) was shipped instead of the name brand. The cost? A total of $20 for a 90 day supply. Maybe now that it is available in generic form all of our insurance companies will be less difficult to work with and get approved. We can only hope........

I have been taking lamotrigene (the generic for lamictal) for about 10 years. It is an epileptic medication for seizures that is used, as my psych. says, as a mood leveler. It doesn't react to seritonin or anything. it helped take the edginess away for me - but i did put up with blurred vision which i didn't realize was a side effect for years. Went off it last month to see if vision cleared but it was negligible....i take other meds that can cause that too.

Hello, my doctor gave me some samples of this, I was looking it up and saw the above post, continued to search and I found where someone on here said that PV's generic is Modafinil and there are other names Alertec and Modalert. I don't know if this will help you but it is worth checking into. My insurance would not pay at first, my doctor had to fill out a form justifying it.

I have been put on Modafinil for my sleeping issues and it makes my birth control less effective according to my neurologist and pharmacist. Is there any way I can find out how MUCH less? Am I even protected at all? I have been on the pill for 10 years and after hearing this, I immediately called my gynecologist to discuss other options. She told me that the oral pill would metabolize through the liver much faster on Modafinil and so she put me on the Nuvaring.

My Neuro prescribed Modafinil to try and combat my fatigue, and I was wondering if anyone here has any exprience or comments about the usefulness and side effects of this drug. So far I filled the prescription but I haven't actually taken any yet. I recently started taking Modafinil for fatigue and apart from the fatigue being much improved, the incontinence has also vastly improved - fingers crossed it has actually stopped. Is this coincidence or can the Modafinil have caused this?

For what it’s worth, some PCP’s will require your neuro to prescribe a drug like Provigil (generic modafinil). Your benefits provider may also be more inclined to cover the cost of certain drugs if a specialist prescribes and monitors them. I doubt amantadine would be used with the amitriptyline as both drugs have anticholinergic properties. You probably don’t want to risk a cumulative parasympathetic effect in your effort to battle fatigue.

Can anyone please tell me if adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) will affect taking birth-control pills? In other words, if I occasionally take adrafinil to help me study - will it make the pills ineffective. I certainly don't want to get pregnant. Hi. I need some help figuring out how Modafinil works. I basically have something which seems like Insomnia but it isn't. I believe I suffer from Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. I have had it since I was 15, I am 25 now. The problem is that, I can't maintain a proper schedule. I can never sleep at a particular time everyday. It keeps moving as every day passes by. For example, right now I am sleeping at around 9 AM everyday and then I am getting up at around 5 PM.

It appears that Teva has a shortage of several of their medications. No idea if it's a manufacturing issue or what for them. Of course we can be conspiracy theorists and say they just want to make us pay more for generic valtrex so they can make more money off of us.....he he he I'm not above ruling that out either.

Nuvigil, alerted, modafinil, Provigil are the same -as far as I understand. I am paying more than you - I have high deductible insurance but took the hit because I needed a replacement for amantadine to help with fatigue. Thought I was ok until the amantadine worked its way out of my system and then I crashed. But new drug is giving me BP problems. Is anyone taking the drug with NO BP problems? How much can you take?

Not good. You definitely want to look for a specialist. Might want to scope out your throat to see if there are also problems down there. Under side effects for Nuvigil it says, "Skin and mouth sores, blistering, and ulceration have been reported with modafinil and NUVIGIL in the postmarketing setting. Recurrence of signs and symptoms of serious dermatologic reactions following rechallenge has been reported in some cases.

m not sure what you are going to find on the island to help - over here we often get provigil (modafinil is the generic) or Nuvigil. IF insurance won't cover the cost, then Adderall can be an option. I would talk to the doctor about the exhaustion and see what options you have for treatment. At least the heat should be down a bit in the islands - I hope you find your energy again, and soon!

I am switching from Avonex to Tecifidera and from Modafinil to Symmetrel. How has these worked out for others? I am looking forward to not having the injections and being able to take pills instead.
