modafinil and grapefruit

Can anyone please tell me if adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) will affect taking birth-control pills? In other words, if I occasionally take adrafinil to help me study - will it make the pills ineffective. I certainly don't want to get pregnant. I know that long term use of Modafinil decreases the effectivenes of bc pills but how about short term use? Once or twice a week? Thank you!

I have been put on Modafinil for my sleeping issues and it makes my birth control less effective according to my neurologist and pharmacist. Is there any way I can find out how MUCH less? Am I even protected at all? I have been on the pill for 10 years and after hearing this, I immediately called my gynecologist to discuss other options. She told me that the oral pill would metabolize through the liver much faster on Modafinil and so she put me on the Nuvaring.

I am switching from Avonex to Tecifidera and from Modafinil to Symmetrel. How has these worked out for others? I am looking forward to not having the injections and being able to take pills instead.

Not good. You definitely want to look for a specialist. Might want to scope out your throat to see if there are also problems down there. Under side effects for Nuvigil it says, "Skin and mouth sores, blistering, and ulceration have been reported with modafinil and NUVIGIL in the postmarketing setting. any advice or experiences that could help me understand would be really helpful please. My brother has started university to study architecture this year and due to the huge amount of nights he had to work, started going on modafinil. Now that the year is finished and he's not taking it however, he has become aggressive, irrational and rude. Does anyone know if this is because of the modafinil or if there's a link.

I as well was denied alertec and they chenaged to Modafinil bc it is cheaper and needs to be tried first (the are the same.. Just cheaper) My neuro still had to send in authorization papers to have coverage approved. It was no problem for ms related fatigue. I did try amantadine first which did not help so that could have been helpful in having the Modafinil covered. Hope it goes though for you!! It is great for me!!

My wife has been perscribed fentanyl patches and has been told not to eat grapefruit, does this apply to all citrus fruit ie.

This can produce euphoria, it can be abused for a high sensation particularly by students as stimulants for staying up all night for exams. There are certain common side effects associated with its use like headache, dizziness, difficulty in falling asleep, drowsiness, nausea, heartburn, confusion and burning, tingling and numbness of skin. There could be certain withdrawal symptoms associated with it.

Several of my drugs (Lamictal, Seroquel, & Valium - at a minimum) interact w/ grapefruit. It's on all of the information that comes from the pharmacy and I didn't take it seriously until I got pretty toxic myself. I LOVE grapefruits & grapefruit juice and I miss them a lot. I also tend towards side effects and toxicity.

Wow looks like i should have read the warning label when my doc gave me to take them PRN or as necessary to re convert myself......okay i just went off of the site and read up on the label...they are telling us not to take it with the citrus because it effects how our body absorbs the Multaq for maximum performance of the med...if it were me and i had to take it on a daily basis i probably would stay away from all citrus drinks for sure because you want to give yourself the best shot possible...

This may seem to be a silly question, but has anyone heard from their doctors not to combine methimazole and grapefruit? Online research seems to say it's not flagged as interacting but also notes that no studies have been done to see if it does interact. I was wondering if anyone's doctor had said anything? My doc is on vacation and I was gifted with a lovely and delicious looking 24 grapefruits.....

Hi Chicky Watch out for interactions with grapefruit juice and meds. I went on Zoloft in anticipation of beginning treatment. Then read about the grapefruit juice-turns out they use the same enzyme to clear your system so you can get too much of the drug in your system and get liver toxicity. Grapefruit acts that way with many drugs, so check first, then drink up.

i need to know that, what is the interaction between juices of Grapefruit and Hepatitis C? is there any reactions of Grapefruit juice being taken by Hepatitis C patient?

All the information I have read strongly suggests that Modafinil seems to have a very toxicity, and what I am doing may very well not be causing me any damage, however I do appreciate that large, clinical studies of such doses have not been conducted. I also appreciate that I am no expert and I am trying to gain information to expand my perspective. I am potentially willing to reduce my dose, but not discontinue entirely.

Modafinil increases high-frequency alpha waves while decreasing both delta and theta wave activity which shows generalized increase in alertness. Hence, Modafinil Improves wakefulness in patients with excessive daytime sleepiness associated with narcolepsy and shift work sleep disorder (SWSD).

If narigenin is grapefruit then it is definitely not a good idea. I didn't know what narigenin was but, if I had, I would have more strongly advised against it. Don't eat grapefruit while taking Prograf is one of the first things I was told and told many times immediately after transplant. "Do not consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment with Prograf unless your doctor has told you do(sic). Prograf can have a dangerous interaction with grapefruit or grapefruit juice.
