Avatar m tn TXLDA is the short name for Texas Lyme Disease Association, and they can likely give you names of Lyme specialists near you. ---------------------------------------------------------------- As to cost of the tests and doctor visits, your insurance may cover much of it, or if you don't have insurance, then ask TXLDA (see above) and also go online at ILADS [dot] org for MDs or organizations who may be able to assist you financially. Best wishes to you!
Avatar f tn I was on antibiotics over a year ... it's not uncommon. The reason is that Lyme bacteria have a VERY slow reproductive cycle, and I've read that bacteria can be killed most easily while they are dividing/reproducing. Non-Lyme bacteria reproduce very quickly, in a matter of hours per "generation", so two weeks of antibiotics has the opportunity to hit the reproducing bug many times. With Lyme, tho, it's so drawn out that the treatment must be also.
Avatar m tn Are you familiar with ILADS, a voluntary group for MDs who specialize in Lyme disease and other infections ticks may bring? ILADS [International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society] is based in NYC, but its membership is worldwide. They have a website you might find useful at ILADS [dot] org. In particular, you may want to look at Dr Burrascano's treatment guidelines posted there.
Avatar m tn The main reasin I chose to treat Lyme, is because I was tested for Lyme during my first symptoms and bands 23/41 came back as "present" and those are lyme specific bands. Another reason to treat for lyme is because MS patients have shown major improvement using the abx Minocycline. So an autoimmune is being treated with an abx and abx are used to treat infections. So getting on Minocycline is a win win. Minocycline is also combined with Copaxone for greater improvement.
Avatar m tn My wife's cardiologist told her that long term use of minocycline or any of the antibiotics of the cycline family will burn the valves in your legs that control the flow of blood back and forth. Instead of a one way street for your blood to flow down from your artery in your leg and back up through your veins it now becomes a two way street because your valve isn't working. The problem is she has to keep taking it for chronic Lyme disease.
Avatar m tn And standard doctors do not do the more sensitive tests for Lyme. I happen to find one, after many years, who understood Lyme Disease because she was part of the original Lyme Disease studies at Yale. I was very lucky. I had been tested for everything in the book. I mean it. Lyme Disease came out positive when sent to a more sensitive lab. I felt better for a while on antibiotics, which told me that was the correct diagnosis.
314892 tn?1264623903 I have been officially diagnosed (clinically at this point) with Neurologic Lyme. Why is that great news? I have been ill following a bulls eye rash, knee pain and dizziness for 14 years on and off. After reading my history, he looked up and said, "So, you have never been right following the camping trip." My endo recommended this doctor and said he is a genious. I agree.
Avatar f tn Yes, it is used in the Marshall approach to beating Lyme, but it also can be used just as a treatment for Lyme because it enhances the effects of antibiotics and other Lyme treatment, such as using a rife machine, as it decreases inflammation. I was also quite wrong about Benicar's not causing a herx reaction. Yes, it can cause a herx which, in some, can be quite severe.
Avatar m tn ) I know for me I tolerate minocycline better then doxy. Right now she has me on mino (plus 3 other abx) 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. I know the weeks on I'm dizzy, anxious and depressed. The weeks off my mood gets better but my nero lyme/bart/babs symptoms are back. So basically, I never feel very good. I don't know it this helps you at all but in my lyme brain opinion, my foot problems are due to lyme, and minocycline make me somewhat dizzy, anxious and depressed.
Avatar f tn I have Neuro Lyme and from an MRI found I had lesions on my brain from a co-infection of Lyme called Bartonella. You may have that infection and minocycline is often used for Bart's. Do you know if the tests were taken at IgeneX labs? Things do improve with treatment so I am glad you will be on your way soon.
Avatar m tn Minocycline is an intracellular abx and is used in combination with another type of abx when given for Lyme. It can help with Bartonella, too, as Bart is also an intracellular infection. I considered taking it, but my PA warned me that it often causes dizzyness, especially in women, so I haven't tried it yet. Wouldn't be surprised if I do at some point. I seem to have tried most everything at one point or another.
Avatar f tn However, I had been on schedule to start Lyme disease treatment (Benemicin/rifampicine150mg and Minocycline 50mg - twice daily for both), and as I did not put any thought to an STD, I started the treatment. Some kind of yeast infection/thrush appeared on head of penis and foreskin few days later and went away only after I started applying canesten on the area. A week later my testicles started to hurt a bit.
Avatar f tn In endemic areas, it is important for practitioners to consider Lyme disease when patients present with persistent headache, especially in those who have evidence of increased intracranial pressure. =============================================== 2 -- ARTICLE: Lyme Disease Complicated with Pseudotumor Cerebri By Jill A.
Avatar m tn For those of you who are still waiting for an accurate diagnosis or who have symptoms of Chronic Lyme Disease, but your physician refuses to treat you.... there is an option that is available to you and one that has been working for me. I switched from an antibiotic protocol to Dr. Jernigan's natural formulas and I was surprised because I am having herxing symptoms on Jernigan's treatment.... even the yeast formula !
Avatar m tn IV and oral were taken for 7 weeks, Strong herx after 2-3days. No test has been positive in uk or France for Lyme or any other CNS disease, diagnosed with probable MS in France after not very good Q'clinical questioning by neurologist.
280418 tn?1306325910 My orthopedist is actually lyme friendly. In fact, he uncovered the reason for all this tendonitis -- by ordering a test for Lyme. I'm actually over my tennis elbow thanks to him. So, if you can don't mind risking a shot, it may prevent you from further pain down the road -- or even surgery. Most orthopedists know about Lyme -- as hard as this is to believe. My doctors see it as a possible explanation for all this repeat business!
Avatar m tn Wow. Thanks for the fast responses guys, The pain is hard to deal with and I appreciate the support. The only reason I have to suspect it MAY not be lyme is that I don't have fatigue or flu-like symptoms, just the pain I described. Also, the pain gets PERMANENTLY worse if I sit for too long upright or exert my back - leading me to believe it may be a spinal cord injury, but the doctors have run 2 MRIs and 2 EMGs and tell me its not. Im so sick of this.
Avatar m tn Started Minocycline 100mg 2x per day for suspected neuro Lyme and feel horrible. I know herx is possible, but feel more like I'm experiencing side effects, and wondering if I should switch abx. How long should I stick with this? Anyone have success with Minocycline? Do the side effects lessen with time?
