I have been on Minocycline for coming up 9 years now and i'm currently down to one 50mg pill a day to control my acne, my question is what effects does it have on my cognitive ability and memory over such a long period of time.
rash, skin lesions/sores, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing, loss of appetite/weight loss, new or worsening swelling/pain in the joints, swollen glands, chest pain, fast/irregular heartbeat, severe stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine.

I have been reading that minocycline can cause black thyroid in some people and can take up to a year to reverse after stopping medication. it is given to teenagers for acne and my son was on it for 6 mths twice a day having severe headaches yet the dr ignored it until I googled and realized that it could be effecting his thyroid and causing the headaches since those were listed as symptoms and wondered if anyone else ran into that.....his thyroid test did come back 4.6 with the top normal of 4.
t really understand what the connection was, but I wanted to know if I could trust my HIV test results even though I am on Minocycline, and was for months before, during, and after my HIV test.
Also, just to ease my mind, is there ANYTHING else that could effect the validity of an HIV test (aspirin, menstrual cycle, diet, anything)?

I was diagnosed with CRP after years of trying the shampoo and typical fungal treatments. I must be one of the lucky ones, because after seeing a dermatologist and getting on minocycline, I have been pretty much CRP free for about 5 yrs now. I have one little brown spot on each side of my armpit area, and that's it. Oh, and I only took the minocycline for about 6 months. I know for some people, they have to take it continually in order to prevent reoccurance.
I know you said this thread is ended but could you please take a look at this and tell me what you think of it and could this data indicate that minocycline could indeed slow down replication making it possible for delayed seroconversion, which would make my test at the 5 month mark inaccurate.

This is where all of my anxiety has came from.
I am having cramping, swollen breasts. no facial hair. yes trouble losing weight. and i can definitely tell when i'm ovulating. Last time i had sex was sunday the 18th of april. I have unprotected sex, no birth control. i take minocycline for my face. no its not my first abnormal cycle. and no kids.
The test was a rapid antibody test. Can someone please weigh in and tell me could minocycline possibly be used as a PEP drug for HIV? And if so, should I be worried about my status? Should I test again?
I'm worried because I read on the web minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV that has been shown to reduce replication of the virus.

3% not as strong as the retin a mico 0.1% i was on and minocycline 100 mg daily to 40 mg a day oracea for only redness and not pimples would help ?seems like it would make it worse..please explain...
My doctor prescribed me minocycline and I started taking it for about four days and then found out I was pregnant. I have stopped taking it since, but now I've read some of the birth defects that it causes and I'm really scared. I'm only about 5 weeks and was just wondering if someone could give some more in depth info on the possibilities of something happening to my baby. I was taking 100mg twice a day.
I am not sure if my weight loss may be a factor. Last year I weighed 146 when I went to college and I was down to 116 by the end of the semester. Since then I have been very cold natured and sometimes my nails turn blue. I really want to find a way to treat my skin though before the summer and shorts and bathing suit season. Any advice on how to treat the skin or should I see a doctor?
From what I read, hair loss appears to be mainly due to inadequate levels of Free T3 and Free T4 and/or low ferritin.
The misconception occurs because when people first start taking thyroid med, it is very common that their Free T3 and Free T4 levels actually drop. Serum thyroid levels are a composite of both endogenous (thyroid gland production) and exogenous (thyroid med).
Nowadays I just take minocycline every other day, eat healthier, and tan every once in a while and my skin is pretty well clear (fairly anyway).

My hair has slowly been thinning since the whole accutane treatment ordeal, and it's very upsetting. My dad and his father both had good hairlines well into their adult years, but mine is definitely already accelerated by the drug.
But I'm not too worried, because I know what my plan of attack for it is going to be.

I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.
I started minocycline feb 10 and conceived my baby feb 21 but i didnt stop the medicine until march 9 ( only because i didnt know i was preg) im 7 weeks now and i just wanna know has anybody else expericed this with a positive outcome ?
All, I recently had a standard STD screen and my RDR test showed positive and came back at 1:8 for the quant. test. I have a scalp condition I've had for years that my dermatologist treats with 200mg daily of minocycline. I'm wondering 2 things:
1) Could the same scalp condition cause the RDR test to show a false-positive? Especially a 1:8 reading?
2) If it IS truly positive, is Minocycline 200mg daily (which I've taken for 2+ yrs) sufficient to treat for syphillis?
Three days later culture was ALL NEGATIVE. Kept taking Minocycline during the wait and by this time my symptoms were mostly gone... EXCEPT a mild discomfort in the perineum... (prostate) By this time, because I doubled-down, I ran out of medicine (after 9 days), so I went back in for more, after reading all the horror stories about chlamydia getting into your prostate and then you're in deep ****. Doc gave me 4-5 more days of Minocycline @ 100mg/day.
I was off minocycline for five days before I started birth control,as starting will the minocycline still be in my system and effect the birth control?
I could not find a testing location in our rural location, read about Gonorrhea and knew that was my issue, I had discharge, pain while urinating. I took some of her Minocycline 200 MG for two days and three days of 100MG ALL SYMTOMS disappeared. I abstained from sex and took my first appointment at testing center in the city which was last Friday. They gave me a shot of antibiotics and two huge antibiotic pills, and did all the testing.
I have acne all over the back of my head and on my back it hurts to touch in some spots and to dry my hair.
