What we have to do is figure out what is causing the dry mouth condition. Usually it is from the side effects of a medication or two. Sometimes it is marijuana use. And, occasionally it is from breathing with the mouth open while sleeping. No matter the cause, the problem has caused the naturally occurring candida albicans (yeast) to take over and grow too much, thus creating problems. This is called being an "opportunistic pathogen".
I just had a thought this evening that most of the problems I have had have occured after taking Flagyl (Metronidazole).
I am showing symptoms that are confusing my Drs and have been for about 4 years. When I look back on when I began feeling poorly it seemed to happen after taking Flagyl. Because I never got a rash or anything whilst on it I didn't think I was allergic but the side effects and after effects I've had seem to be quite bad.
I just finish my 5-day course of Metronidazole 500mg 3x a day. Is this a common side effect, or is this something that I need to worry about?
I got a sore throat and sore lymph nodes under my jaw. I also got a furry tongue that was usually a light yellow color. All signs of my body trying to fight an infection.
4-5 days later my right testicle on this day asw EXTREMELY SORE with pain feeling like blue balls for 24 hours straight. Tried masturbating but it didn't help after releasing. It seemed to calm down a bit after 24 hours but it still seemed off and I could feel it, it didn't feel normal.
I saw an ENT specialist and he did the thrush test which came back negative. Said I have geographic tongue. But the middle of my tongue looks really furry. I'm scared it could be HIV.
I had a black furry patch on my tongue several years ago, and it scared me. I went to the ENT doctor, and he said it was from taking the antibiotics I'd been taking for a long time. I got off them and the black furry patch went away in a couple days. This patch was about the circumferance of a tablespoon, maybe a little smaller. Very scary.
My tongue is also white (towards the front) and greenish (towards the back) and kinda furry looking with my papillae on the tip of my tongue visible. Ive also been experiencing a tingling sensation on the side of my tongue, which goes away quickly. A couple of weeks ago I had sores on the sides of my tongue, 1 on 1 side which went away a day later and another on the other side which went away a day later.

Has anyone else experienced a sore, swollen tongue and swollen and painful salivary glands after receiving RAI treatment? My taste buds are really messed up as well. I told my Endochrinologist about this and she says she's never heard of a swollen tongue as a side effect and told me it is unrelated. I have never had a swollen tongue in my life. She's making me feel like a freak! Is there anyone out there who has experienced tongue problems? If so, how long does it last?
I then became convinced I had an overgrowth of candida in my system (I have had yeast infections countless times since my teens, not to mention BV, my tongue is always white and furry, I cough up small white chunks sometimes and often have a bad taste in my mouth) so I convinced the clinic doc to give me Diflucan. She gave me one pill which helped, but it wasn't enough.
Symptoms were back in full force. I got insurance and saw a new GYN.
I had many side effects. Headaches, severe heartburn accompanied with hiccups. Blisters and discoloration all over my tongue and back of my throat. By day 6 my feet and ankles were badly swollen and it was getting difficult to swallow. My doc said I was having a systemic reaction and to quit immediately. We are going to try Subutex now and I hope it works.
On all the info I found, the only side effect I had that was listed was headache.
Furry white tongues come in two varieties: a little furry and very furry. A little furry is fine - it's the normal layer of bacteria that every tongue should have. A very furry tongue is often not fine - especially if it's a thick and cheesy-looking white fur coating.
Scrape a fingernail across your tongue and look at the path it carves. A big groove could indicate a problem.
I continued to be okay then I started to get headache pain (moderate) which goes on for days and I have had many troubles with my stomach (Constipation, Diarrhea for 2 weeks, and horrible cramping). I also have a yellow furry tongue which cannot seem to go away. I was on Metronidazole Antibiotic for 11 days x 750 mg per day for my "stomach bacteria".
I'm taking antibiotics, including Metronidazole 500mg for h.pylori. I was at my sister's wedding last night and took 2 glasses of bubbly to toast with the guests, and then switched to water all night (being under the impression that antibiotics just worsen the impact of the alcohol so this is why you shouldn't drink). I’ve been on my second day of Metronidazole and I drank a little bit of wine today. The concentration is 10 percent and I had it mixed with juice, should that be enough to cause any side effects?

itchy skin all over body and the most worry thing is that i have furry white burning tongue ( that wont go away even if i brush my tongue ) my tongue it has like little hairs all over and its white color .. i does not look like white milky patches like trush ..i have been to 5 drs 2 GI and all of them they think is in my head and that my tongue it does not have anything .. but i never had this white tongue and neither burning sensation. also i have tinnitus and poor memory ..
I noticed the furry yellow tongue a week ago, I've been brushing tongue and using listerine it helps for a few hours and then come back I have IBS also. TIve been using Benifiber for a 3 weeks now and wonder if this was the cause. I'm usually very regular and for a few weeks was not so I used Miralax I wonder if these things are causing the yellowing on our tongues?? Does anyone have any answers for us?
i have had a white furry tongue for months which i cant get rid of, i get a white/yellow gunk on the back of my tongue and my mouth drys out in no time what so ever. i also have real gloopy spit in the back of my mouth which is really horrible. ive been to the doctors to see if its thrush and its apparently not and ive had blood test to see if i could find anything out and all i found out is that im healthy with a strong immune system.
