789402 tn?1243630044 i've just started taking metolazone to improve my breathing, i can hardly walk 1/2 block without having to stop. it seems that the breathing has gotten a bit better, but i've been hit with bouts of dizziness and fatigue hits me hard. i was wondering if anyone else out there is taking it and what type of reaction you may be having, good or bad.
Avatar m tn I have a question regarding the diuretic Metolazone. As background, my father is quite elderly at 85, suffering for the last five years from congestive heart failure (CHF) following two heart attacks 10 years ago. His condition has been treated successfully to date by use of lasix diuretic.
Avatar m tn Two weeks ago, he gained water weight, and lasix did not work. The doctor prescribed Metolazone, a more powerful diuretic. This removed water, but from about 2 days after he started Metolazone, he began a downward spiral. He developed a potassium shortage, treated by a supplement. Metolazone was stopped, but he has become too weak to walk, and his thoughts are clouded. His water weight is normal.
Avatar f tn The GP contacted the heart failure Specialist who advised increasing spironolactone to 50 mg and if weight still increased he could take a metolazone every 2 nd day if necessary . Ihave worked out that if he has some salted peanuts small amount that the cramps are much reduced . But thank you both for your advice it is much appreciated.
Avatar m tn He went to the doctor last week and they increased his lasix - 160 mg twice a day. No change to the edema. He went back yesterday and they prescribed Metolazone (diuretic). He took one this morning at 7:00 am and at 10:00 am he had not noticed any increase in urination. He also went to his cardiologist yesterday who said he did have fluid around his heart (cause of the coughing) but agreed with the diuretic prescription.
Avatar m tn Then was given Cefuroxime, Linezolid antibiotic, corex syp and metolazone diuretics when partially conscious. He didnt eat much drank 50 ml water in last 14 hours and nothing after that. Later in the evening his oxygen was down to 70 SpO2. In 1.5 hours he was given oxygen with oxygen machine and the oxygen started to increase in a bit. In an hour heartrate started to fluctuate BP was almost NR. The patient suffered cardiac arrest few minutes later. The patient wasn't a major heart patient.
Avatar n tn He has been on a lasix iv drip for almost 72 hours now and is finally feeling better and breathing well. My question is, how can he keep the water off at home? Lasix at home is not working well. His kidneys are ok, not perfect, but ok. The doctor does not want to increase the oral lasix because of kidney damage, but if something can't be done, what does he do? Go to the hospital about every 5 days, stay for 3 days while he gets lasix iv, go home and start the cycle all over?
Avatar n tn s hard to miss the vein unless they are very bad at it. Drink a lot of water so your veins swell and are easy to feel. Usually they put iv in the crook of my arm, like a blood test, because I have a very good vein there. They don't hurt me anymore unless the person is inexperienced and ends up digging around in my arm with the needle to find the vein.
Avatar f tn When the breathing spazaming was under Control i could no longer walk days later and a one iv steriod drio down 2 to go i have my fingers crossed for miracles. Anyone had iv steriods? How have you noticed its helped?.
Avatar n tn I had an IV inserted for contrast dye for an MRI. Now the area is a lump, swollen, red , and itchy. Any ideas what to do?
Avatar m tn I had a baby more than 2 months ago, when I was in the hospital the nurse was trying to put an IV on my left wrist but then after 3 unsuccessful painful try, it end up on my right wrist. a day after I went home, i started to have this very painful on my left wrist with a bluish bruises and the bruises was gone but the pain still there, even just to lift a glass or move it or anything is sooo painful.
Avatar f tn I had a contrast IV for a Chest CT. It infiltrated, causing pain and swelling. I need a follow-up scan (a 6-month check). What are the chances this will happen again. I have tiny veins and am nervous.
492869 tn?1285018933 Is it just a saline IV or is there other stuff in there also? When I have had saline IV for any reason I have felt incredibly good. I have thought about the port b/c my old doc, who retired, was doing those. But I am nervous about infection. I don't faint though so I think that if I were in your shoes I would do the same thing. I hope you have recovered from the recent fall and seizure.
Avatar f tn I have been told I am going to get started on a 3 day course of IV steroids. I would like to ask those of you that have had this what they felt like during and after they had it? Did anyone have any adverse side effects? Did you feel they helped reduce the flare up?
Avatar n tn I've been using heroin and cocaine together through IV for the last year every day and recently i've been experiencing extreme pain after doing a shot the same size i've done in the past, it feels like i may be having mini heart attacks, but sometimes i can relieve the pain by burping.. after the pain dies down, i feel a burning sensation for a while after, and feel as if i cannot move my arm too much or it will cause a sharp pain in my heart.
1396846 tn?1332459510 Well I had a 5 day dose of IV steroids and let me just say I was like super women....The first 2 days I was on serious over drive ...I really probably should of asked for some type of sleeping aide ...I did take two Benadryl pills and drank a cold beer every night to make me sleepy I know probably not the best combo but I needed some sleep ...and still some nights I was wide awake...
Avatar m tn i had a stress test the end of may. they put an iv in my arm where it bends. it has never healed the injection site. it is about the size of a dime. does not hurt at all, but am concerned about it.
Avatar f tn So, yes you can get a sore arm from an IV but most of the time it is from trauma to the area or a badly inserted IV etc. You can get an infection at an IV site but they do use Betadine Iodine and other antiseptics to clean the area well. Usually, the infection comes from an IV or catheter tip left in for several days or longer. A well known source of infection is by Staphylococcus epidermidis (usually) but there are other organisms that can infect a catheter site.
Avatar n tn I have to do 6 months of iv steroids. 3 days every month with NO taper! I have just finished my second round...and I'm ready to through in the towel. The side affects of the steroids are at this point almost not worth doing. They are trying to prevent a relapse since I am not on any MS therapy. Anyone else going through anything similar? I can't handle the fatigue, shakes, fever, redness, pain, nightsweats, constipation, irritability, overall feeling of crap!
4437866 tn?1388119624 I,.at the hospital. I.cant keep.anything down.. they.have me.on an iv right now..keep.
4451049 tn?1387153437 With a CDC positive Lyme result and not much effect with oral antibiotics, I cannot help but wonder how people are getting their IV antibiotics paid for. Perhaps I am just poorer than most but uhh, is there some type of insurance that would pay for what I need?? My insurance will cover a months worth of IV antibiotics but that is all. And will not even pay for IM injections at all. It would be interesting to see how I respond. But in all reality, that's just a tease!
