Common Questions and Answers about Marinol medicine

Avatar f tn He's on procrit, neupogen, 1/2 dose of pegasus, marinol, promethizine, lortab, and prozac. I think I remembered all of it. Anyway, the question is about AHCC, my sister in law wants me to get this stuff. Has anyone tried it? Is it worth getting? Thanks!
Avatar m tn I have been treated for Chronic pain post Cancers and therapies, and I am very tolerant to any Opiates. I would like to try using Marinol (synthetic THC) for pain; it helped my pain as well as my nausea when I went through my Stem-cell Transplant. I am in Athens, GA; does anyone know of a doctor willing to prescribe this medicine for pain (when you have not been diagnosed with a cancer...yet?
Avatar f tn Your program will be of great help for you thru this process. HP be strong medicine!!! Talk to those in your network about HCV. You'll find many will relate. I was diagnosed many years ago and chose to wait on tx. I'm 2b, week 21/24, UND week 4 & 12. Most peeps on this board are good souls who care, will give you straight up good info. Keep in touch!!!
1039578 tn?1293981696 I don't think your husband's worries have any basis in science as neither medicine currently being used (peg/riba) has been shown to be carcinogenic. If you smoke 2 packs a day your risk for lung cancer increases manyfold. If he was 32 y.o. and started at, say age 16, that would be equivalent of someone smoking 1 pack a day for 32 years. And probably worse, since the injury is higher for someone who smokes 2 packs a day.
620048 tn?1358021835 The US is not yet ready for that. Marinol isn't even close. All THC and no CBN, and there have been overdoses with Marinol. I hold a great job with a fortune 20 company that knows I augment the treatment my disease with MMJ. They are not worried about it. They have a bigger issue with alcohol and prescription drug use in other employees.
Avatar f tn Store this medicine at room temperature between 68 to 77 degrees, away from heat or light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees is permitted. But it doesn't say what "brief" means to them. Best to you in the outcome.
1499589 tn?1289165881 one being that some studies have suggested marijuana accelerates liver fibrosis. We pay our doctors to practice evidence based medicine; ask him why he opposes it, and perhaps it’ll make sense. And yes, I imagine if a doctor feels his patient is not being compliant with doctor’s orders, he could probably deny treatment drugs. Even in states that allow medical marijuana use, other issues arise.
Avatar f tn Soon switched to Marinol because I wanted to be legal. Marijuana is now legal in my state, so I will be switching back. Nothing, in my case, beats the REAL thingl it definetly isn't for everyone, but marijuana works so much better the the man made THC. It is not for everyone, but like I said, in my case it does work as a great medicine. For me it is just off of the one hitter. No joints or blunts, just through the one hitter. Maybe 8 to 9 One hits a day.
Avatar n tn I too was diagnosed with Sluders by having a lidocaine-soaked pledget applied between the contact point. I have a deviated septum with a spur, and the spur is in constant contact with the turbinate (and nerve bundle) on the opposite side. So I am in pain almost all of the time. I am making my appt. for surgery this week and am hoping that this cures my horrendous facial pain. This is no way to live.
Avatar n tn There is a medicine called Marinol. My son has had CF his entire life. Hes 19 and weighs about 100 lbs. He was recently been prescribed Marinol. His weight has steadily increased since he started the drug. Yes it is made from marijuana. It is expensive but I know it works. Ive never seen him eat 4 meals a day, until now. God, that looks good. If you can get your weight up to a tolerable level the sx isnt as bad. Its still bad but better bad. Keep us up to speed on his condition.
461838 tn?1255793816 The problem with nausea meds like zofran, and pills like marinol, is that during cancer chemo the nausea can be so bad that the patient cannot tolerate oral meds. I tried prescription nausea meds but they were horribly expensive and not particularly effective, even when I could hold them down.
Avatar f tn Flare-ups of pre-existing >auto-immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis >and Crohn's Disease are common. Marijuana can mitigate the majority >of these side effects as well as offering effective help to those >patients where alpha-interferon treatment is not indicated.

Ambition and drive is blunted, memory impaired and IQ may be reduced permanently by as much as 8 points.

137025 tn?1217768341 Lastly pot or medical marijuana (Marinol), has been extremely helpful in gaining weight for many in your condition. Pot definitely would have benn my first choice, but it just doesn't agree with me, so it was out. Another thought -- haven't read about it -- might be hypno therapy where the hypnotic state might let you tap into your old associations of food and taste. Acupunture is another thought.
1159737 tn?1286520857 That is hard on you to take that much Tylenol every day, the mmj would benefit you, but ask your doctor about Marinol (not sure if im spelling it right), a synthetic pill form so that you dont have to smoke, if your doc is open minded. It isnt quite the same but, its worth a try. I think that It helps me put the pain in the back of my mind, sometimes it breaks through when it its intense. But the dull achey pains that are constant are eased enough to not think about as much.

Avatar m tn Marijuana Not Medicine, Addiction Experts Say Kathleen Louden Apr 29, 2013 CHICAGO — Illinois should not legalize cannabis, and physicians should not write recommendations for patients to use marijuana for medical purposes, because it is a dangerous, addictive drug and is not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a group of addiction medicine physicians said during a press conference here.

335728 tn?1331418012 This is straight from 'Ripley's Believe It or Not'....but I swear this is the truth, so help me God. I, too, was notified by a nurse that I had MS. When she called, she said, "Hi Heather, this is Dr. Burch's office. I've told Dr. Burch, I don't like being the one that has to make these kinds of phone calls, especially when it's bad news; but Dr. Burch believes you have MS." I was APPAULD that a NURSE would call me with such life altering news. A NURSE!
649848 tn?1484935765 If people can grow their own medicine in their back yards, it certainly would cut into the pharmaceutical industry's potential profits, wouldn't it ? * * Here are excerpts from recent research backing the claims that it does help for various symptoms. Pain Relief: Jul. 12, 201
Avatar m tn National Library of Medicine this past year pulled up nearly 20,000 more recent papers. But the majority were research into the harm of marijuana, such as "Bad trip due to anticholinergic effect of cannabis," or "Cannabis induced pancreatitits" and "Marijuana use and risk of lung cancer." In my quick running of the numbers, I calculated about 6% of the current U.S. marijuana studies investigate the benefits of medical marijuana.
Avatar f tn I would demand a meeting to include the Chiefs of Neurology and medicine. I would tell them that the last time you checked, we were still practicing evidence base medicine in this country, and so far the evidence in your sons case has clearly been ignored. Tell them they have 24 hours to do their job. You know it's bad when the family Docs are trying to get your son elsewhere..... I'm not so sure that wouldn't be best! Here is some more info to consider; 1.
Avatar m tn forgot to mention may want to see about seeing a dr that practices integrative medicine. both western and alternative medicine focusing on healing the gut and going from there. they can also do vitamin cocktail mix for IV infusions weekly so it bypasses gut.
Avatar m tn If you think of anything else let me know. I will say that medicine seems very fragmented these days. I'd love a skilled internist or something to sit down with me and go through all these symptoms.
Avatar f tn I pray to Him and do daily devotions every day and it helps me keep perspective. But, the medicine and makes me get really irritable and whiney at times, which makes me mad at myself for feeling that way. I try to 'get positive', but some days, that just doesn't work out in my head. Take care everybody.
1826037 tn?1320340914 I'm into week 7 on Incivek triple tx. with a hgb just above 10 which I am reading every 1 to 2 weeks. I am undetectable with cirrhosis and I am as fatigued as most are on our subjective continuum with this "curse from heaven' type therapy. Most M.D.s (other than sports medicine specialists) seem pretty cloudy when it comes to exercise advice. I work out with weights every other day dividing the muscles I work between workouts so I only work the same muscle group every 5th day.
Avatar f tn I suggest you look into adrenal-ovarian-thyroid axis (OAT) imbalance, but conventional medicine is not where you will find any answers for this. I would look for a Doctor who has training through the Kalish Insitute (or similar), in functional medicine. Conventional Endocrinology does not address, nor recognize OAT imbalances until there's a endocrine/adrenal crisis!
