Common Questions and Answers about Marinol and thc

marinol

Avatar m tn Yes, Marinol is legal in Texas. It's not an effective pain medication. For that, research implies that you need a medication high in the CBD2 cannabinoid (not THC). At this writing, no such medication exists. Also note that CBD2 is not effective for all kinds of pain, and that it does not have the psychoactive effects of THC.
Avatar f tn mmj also helps me with the weird sx I've been having since Jan '09. Marinol is synthetic tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) one of many compounds found in the in the cannabis plant. I hope this helps. The Rest Here: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/115748.
Avatar f tn Marinol is THC or "Medical" Marijuana. People with ADHD who use it are self medicating and (possibly) avoiding the issue of treating the real problem. I am sure that it makes them feel better. And there are probably "shops" out there that will "prescribe" it for you. As far as I know, no legit psychologist or psychiatrist would do so.
Avatar f tn They are hard to find but typically the doctor you would visit to get your MMJ license renewed would prescribe the opioids or refer you to another doctor that is MMJ Friendly. Another option is for you to ask the doctor for a prescription for Marinol...it is synthetic THC. I should mention that when my mother was dying from cancer, she said that the Marinol wasn't helping her eat, it was only the real marijuana that helped but things may be different for you. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Her kids have issues all because smoking weed is natural and it could have been avoided!)Second google THC used during pregnancy and there are countless studies saying that it can be harmful to your developing baby and there are lists of side effects from it. Just because someone else smoked, drank, did drugs, etc during pregnancy and their baby was fine do you really want to risk your baby because someone who is not a doctor says so?
Avatar n tn Synthetic drugs which bind to the same receptors as THC. These drugs constitute the few Schedule I drugs on the market and Marinol is one example. These drugs are very potent and are almost exclusively reserved for cancer patients and persons suffering from AIDS. I wouldn't want to draw to many conclusions from your post but I would urge you to consider whether THC is medicinal or utopian?
Avatar m tn Marinol is legal in the US and is available by prescription. It is not real marijuana but man-made or synthetic THC. THC is one of the psychoactive components in marijuana; however real marijuana has other chemical componds that Marinol does not such as CBD (cannabinoid) that isn't very psychoactive but helps significantly reduce inflammation, relaxes muscles, and relieves pain. Marinol is typically prescribed to cancer patients to help with the pain, nausea, and to increase appetite.
Avatar n tn I can only bring up the obvious, like being in a car or enclosed space when others are smoking pot. There is a pill called Marinol which has THC in it? I'm sorry. Maybe you could ask for another test???
Avatar f tn Flare-ups of pre-existing >auto-immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis >and Crohn's Disease are common. Marijuana can mitigate the majority >of these side effects as well as offering effective help to those >patients where alpha-interferon treatment is not indicated.
Avatar m tn I have been treated for Chronic pain post Cancers and therapies, and I am very tolerant to any Opiates. I would like to try using Marinol (synthetic THC) for pain; it helped my pain as well as my nausea when I went through my Stem-cell Transplant. I am in Athens, GA; does anyone know of a doctor willing to prescribe this medicine for pain (when you have not been diagnosed with a cancer...yet?
163305 tn?1333672171 So, can anyone give me an answer as to why I'm not being affected healthwise by occasionally partaking in theraputic treatment of ingesting or is it inhaling marijuana after nine years post transplant and finally, the THC does'nt even register in the blood tests whereby drug abuse screening is included??? I did'nt think so!!! Finally, if you've been around as long as I've been and actually been to the NIH Headquarters in what town in Maryland, revinire???
Avatar m tn Mike, When I was on treatment with peg and riba in 2007 my doctor prescibed Mairinol for nausia and so I would get the munchies and eat more. marinol is the THC gel cap and insurance covered mine, It did help. As far as I know it does not interfere negativly with treatment.
1162446 tn?1262808503 These findings are only suggestive, lead researcher Mark Ware of McGill University in Montreal and his colleagues wrote, and need to be confirmed in larger long-term safety and efficacy studies. The primary side effects of the strongest dose of THC were "headache, dry eyes, burning sensation in areas of neuropathic pain, dizziness, numbness and cough." The researchers said there was no reduction in mood or quality of life from the treatment. Read the full study at http://www.cmaj.
Avatar n tn I tried Marinol. Forget it! You get a helluva buzz the first time and it nails you like grass, but after that, it's pretty much a situation where the next pill is less effective, then following one is even less, until you do the 4th or 5th pill and it then has no effect at all, and you may as well just toss the lot out like I did. I guess there's nothing like the real thing... However, in retrospect ....
1390055 tn?1365618655 I can't move out of state right now either (I have 50 bucks in the bank at this moment and my boyfriend who works full time is just as broke), and I really REALLY don't want to go down illegal routes just to make myself a functioning member of society. I don't want to break the law, I just want to get by and survive, go to college, read a book, I JUST WANT TO LIVE!
Avatar n tn The make me completely calm and relaxed, and not wozy and out of it like benzos do. I have never tried to obtain them illegal or without reason, but have come to this conclusion on occassions when I have been given them for legitamate pain. I am curious to know if someone can offer any scientific or medical explaination as to why opiates are so effective. I am also curious whether there are any anxiety medications that incorporate opiate therapy.
Avatar n tn I looked up the adverse reactions for Marinol (i.e.
535089 tn?1400677119 These are often prescribed for runners, sports injuries to joints, and those suffering from arthritis. Syva labs has recently reworked its Cannabinoid test and claims to have eliminated this problem. But a Science magazine article (July 8, 1988) lists Ibuprofen as cross reactive. Under the new government guidelines THC testing levels will be reduced to 50 nanograms. Many more THC false positives can be expected in 1994. Dristan Nasal Spray, Neosynephren, Vicks Nasal Spray, Sudafed, etc.
461838 tn?1255793816 The problem with nausea meds like zofran, and pills like marinol, is that during cancer chemo the nausea can be so bad that the patient cannot tolerate oral meds. I tried prescription nausea meds but they were horribly expensive and not particularly effective, even when I could hold them down.
560501 tn?1383616340 It's called Marinol (sp?) Many people do not think it works. One of the problems with isolating THC is that it removes the many compounds found in marijuana that may be involved in bringing relief to it's users.. Unfortunately, in this country, particularly at the Federal level, there is staunch resistence to using marijuana medicinally. However, with a drug such as Sativex, the gov't/FDA may be more willing to grant approval or even run further trials.
177275 tn?1511758844 The potency of present day marijuana is from 5 to 20 times stronger that the hippie “grass” used in the 1960’s. That increases the habituating and addicting properties of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) the major cannabis psychoactive ingredient. This accounts for the rising annual number of emergency room visits (400,000+) for panic attacks, acute psychosis and toxicity. A review of medical and mental damaging effects of marijuana can be found in Missouri Medicine 2012.

Avatar m tn They will not screen for thc. They are already paying a fortune for all of the other bloodwork and won't add to their costs. Are you in a state that has medical marijuana, ask the trial team about using it for nausea control. If not, use your best judgement. Try the ginger; that's medically proven to reduce nausea.
620048 tn?1358021835 The US is not yet ready for that. Marinol isn't even close. All THC and no CBN, and there have been overdoses with Marinol. I hold a great job with a fortune 20 company that knows I augment the treatment my disease with MMJ. They are not worried about it. They have a bigger issue with alcohol and prescription drug use in other employees.
Avatar f tn all though he's do well he gets very anxious and seems to obsess over the little things . his family and doctors have him on heavy meds to treat this problem but he hates his medications and what they do to him. I know that smoking anything is bad for his health and recovery . recently i gave in and allowed him to smoke a very little bit of marijuana "i'm talking like 2 hits" I know his family would disapprove but it did wonders.
917763 tn?1311632496 I still have a lot of Marinol pills left, and why I keep them I don't know. The first time I took them they worked, after that, they were useless. I will toss them today. There's no comparing Marinol with the real deal. As I mentioned on the forum before, the only way to smoke med marijuana is through a vaporizer, to eliminate many of the carcinogens. Ss for the chills, fever, shakes. That is very typical with many of us including myself. It should be a first injection phenomenon only.
Avatar m tn "I'm thinking that it could help with the nausea and other side effects?" You may be right, go for it. We're all different, it may make one person feel better and the next person worse.
Avatar f tn I have been off of lortab since Jan 2008.......havent touched an opiate since at all ! I take regular drug test weekly, and within the last 2 months,I have had 2 false postives for opiates ..... I got a confirmation of both test, and they both came up for codeine . The first test 3,000 nanos, the second 6,000 nanos !!!! I am STUNNED !!!!! The only thing that I take is my anxiety meds ( Citilopram,40 MGS) .....
Avatar n tn And although it is a Schedule II drug, the doctor can write him a script for Marinol, which has the active ingredient of marijuana, THC, and stimulates appetite. It worked wonders for my father-in-law when he had lung cancer---he ate well until just three days before he died. Does your friend have a close family member to act as an advocate at doctor appointments? If not, do you wish to? It's hard, but there's no more holy work in the world.
