Avatar f tn She said he can have no treats that have protein so I am on the hunt for a treat with no protein or a recipe I can make. He is on two antibiotics to kill bad bacteria that may be in his blood now and she has him on Enulose to help his liver. Do you know something I can give him with no protein? Thank you.....
Avatar f tn ) He likes this well enough to eat it, but not well enough to use for training treats. Do any of you know of small, chewy, low protein, low phosphorus treats? Thanks!
1660289 tn?1302556798 Dog Food (Canine Diet and Nutrition)/Diet for bladder stones Expert: Gail Vigneault - 6/23/2008 (Canine Nutritionist) Question My 12 year old dog had surgery to remove bladder stones a week ago. We don't have a definite diagnosis on the composition yet, but the vet believes they are the calcium oxalate type. Until we know for sure, she wants to put her on a RX diet - Royal Canin S/O, which offers support for all types of stones by controlling the minerals in the food.
Avatar n tn I usually cook up a batch of low fat mince , lamb, chicken etc with added brown rice and juiced veges I also add multi vitamins to the food (buy from petstores or vets)but dont add this at cooking stage only add at time of feeding. weekends they get treated to raw diced meat as dogs get certain enzymes from raw meat that helps with there digestive system. Make sure it is fresh I buy and feed same day!
Avatar f tn t say anything about being good for renal failure but it was low protein and low phosphorus, plus she ate it. She even went to her usual food area a little later looking for her food, so I offered her more and she ate that also, plus drank more water also. I only bought 2 cans since we head back to vets on Saturday for more blood work. I just want her to eat and get some energy and an appetite so we can proceed with home prepared food.
Avatar n tn My dog, a 10 year old female bichon frise, Daisy, was diagnosed with a kidney problem about 8 weeks ago. After having blood tests and a urine protein screen my vet explained that the kidneys were functioning, but that too much protein was passing thru holes in the kidneys. The vet put her on a low protein diet (Hill's Prescription Diet U/D, canned), prescribed 1/2 tablet of 5 mg. Enalapril twice daily and instructed me not to give her anything high in protein.
Avatar n tn so sorry to hear about your dog. Mine died the day after she had her first seizure. She was a pure breed maltese almost 2 years old, 4 lb - very small so the doctor thought maybe she had a congenital defect, liver shunt. Never had the time to find out the cause. I am also searching for answers, but from what I have read, having 3 seizures a day seems a lot. In case your dog has liver shunt, keep her on low protein diet and don't feed her any "beef" treats.
6669309 tn?1462648142 Hi. Yes, chicken and rice is a good base diet for dogs to lose weight, BUT success is entirely dependent on quantity versus exercise. It probably goes without saying that treats are another big issue, and many owners are very surprised by the amount they may be feeding in between meals. There are lots of websites that will advise on the quantity and type of food to give a healthy dog, according to breed and size, and with the intention of losing weight slowly but progressively.
Avatar m tn I seldom had overweight dogs but for those packing on a few extra pounds, I used the green bean diet. You cut each meal with half their regular food and half green beans. I used canned and rinsed before adding. Of course. Exercise or a couple of good walks a day help.
Avatar f tn In this stage, it is vital to restrict phosphorus and protein in the diet. Any protein that is given must be high quality (this means human grade meats and poultry) and kept to no more than 10% of the daily food intake. Proteins can be replaced with carbohydrates for energy and nutrition. I advise a very small amount of sticky white rice, couscous or sweet potato in rotation, which are all kidney friendly foods.
172023 tn?1334672284 At that time there was basically nothing for dogs w/ diabetes. I also bought a human diabetic cook book and made foods/treats for him with that. So maybe there are cook books w/ recipes for people who have urinary stones too?
612551 tn?1450022175 The label provides advice for dogs as well as general farm animals. It prescribed 1 teaspoon per day for dogs over 10 pounds. Any experience/opinions about this approach to increase Pro Biotics in a dog's diet? It may be tasteless and could be sprinkled along with some water on dry kibble I will guess.
793908 tn?1294705109 s office with mega Vet bills!! She may get a tiny piece of something when the other dogs get treats, feel bad for her. I think my daughter found a treat that she can have and tolerates but can't remember what it is. Yes, best to watch her diet and warn others not to feed her. All my daughter's friends and family know not to feed this dog. A few times, when they had people over, my daughter put a shirt she had made for the dog that says on top, "Don't feed me!
Avatar m tn Well he has been on the same diet for 1.5 years. Purina One Beef. Is it possible that his body suddenly doesn't want it?
Avatar n tn hi and welcome....truth is Vets know very little about nutrition. cats need protein, even now studies are finding high protein is even ok for cats with CRF. so don't you worry about getting too high, as long as all the ingredients are balanced. and they are with commercial foods, its homemade diets that you have to be careful with. I will send you two excellent websites that will answer all your questions about nutrition...
Avatar f tn Hello yes everytime my vet runs bloods she does a urine test for protein analysis etc, she is very thorough! i havent got the results to hand but will post them later, they did look at other causes and they said it wasnt text book CKD as his urine was still quite concentrated so did tests for Adisons disease and many others, all returned negative. I did want a full MRI but they seemed to be happy with just a ultrasound.
Avatar f tn Dogs with kidney failure need high quality, low residue protein diets. For example, human dialysis patients often eat eggs because each egg provides 7 grams of pure protein on which the kidneys do little to no work for the body to assimilate and utilize.
Avatar f tn Hi. There are very many causes for high protein levels in a dog's urine, the most common being diet - though other causes can be more serious. I would start writing down everything you are feeding her, including all treats, and then pass this information on to your vet when you next see them.
Avatar n tn Some pets will get relief in just a few weeks, but often many dogs need to be fed only the new food for a longer period of time. Also, no treats during this feeding trial!! Discuss these options with your veterinarian. You could also ask for a referral to a veterinary dermatologist if the problems aren't resolving. Good luck...I hope your pup feels better and let us know how things progress...
