Lovenox or coumadin

Common Questions and Answers about Lovenox or coumadin

lovenox

Avatar m tn I do have to admit, I had a tough time with the very first shot. As you know, you drop coumadin and start Lovenox (which is a lower molecular weight heparin). My first kit came with a book and a DVD telling my excaty what to do. I just piched up my belly just to the side of my belly button and pushed in the needle. Remember to switch sides with each injection. After the first injection, it is much easier to do. The shots do not hurt. The needles are very small in diameter.
Avatar f tn I had an ablation last week and am doing well, but am very beat up (low energy, black and blue, sore throat from TEE and polka dot bruises from Lovenox). My question is how long a time period is it usual to be on Lovenox? My doctor has said a full month. From my research, other than pregnant women, for all other conditions it says 2 weeks or less. I can't take coumadin due to a severe reaction to it.
Avatar n tn The night of the day of the procedure I had, I restarted the Coumadin, and the following day after the surgery used Lovenox for 2 days giving the Coumadin time to begin building back up again. Speak with your husband's cardiologist who can oversee this for you.
1569985 tn?1328247482 Not looking forward to the prep OR the Lovenox (if needed). THE BOTTOM LINE IS...EARLY DETECTION IS KEY..so please, everyone, do what you need to do!!
Avatar n tn If he is in fact intolerant to coumadin then you either need a repeat operation to place a bioprosthetic valve or you need to address systematically what the side effects of the coumadin are: is he bleeding if so from where? If other side effects these can be addresses in multiple specialists.
598654 tn?1330217159 Neither of us are on coumadin and neither take a baby aspirin (unless taking a trip or sitting for long period of time). It really depends on what doctor you see, but if I were you I'd get a second opinion on having to take coumadin for the rest of your life and maybe even a 3rd. The Lovenox and heparin do not cross into the placenta to the baby but coumadin does. I really hope you find this helpful.
Avatar f tn I would not be comfortable with having a mechanical mitral valve and an INR of 1, because an INR of 1 is the same as not being anticoagulated at all. Which brings up the question, was the result even correct? If you have been in range for a long time on a stable dose of coumadin, then what the heck happened to drop you down to the same INR as someone who is not even on coumadin at all? I would want to know either how my INR got so low, or if there is no known reason, was it a false result?
Avatar n tn Sectral, coumadin, or lovenox are associated with elevated liver enzymes. Niasan (Niaspan) and tarka (verapamil) can increased liver enzymes. I really can't advise you on stopping medications, you should talk to your doctors about that one but niacin and verapamil can increase liver enzymes and are worth asking your doctor about. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I was given Lovenox and cumiden for a leg blood clot for six days. After the sixth day I was told to no longer take any of the medications. I experienced headaches. I went to the hospital for blood work and a cat scan. All turned up well. My blood reading was INR 1.83 and pro time 21.7. I am now experiencing lack of energy, slight fever. What can I do? I am taking 2 mg of cumiden at this time (as of yesterday).
Avatar n tn HI, I can't speak to the overarching issue...that is something for a doc to discuss w/ you certainly. However, I had a very large DVT that stretched from my groin to my knee in my last pregnancy (he's 6.5 now) and am pregnant again. You won't likely be on Coumadin during pregnancy (I'm guessing) but they'll switch you to Heparin or Lovenox (I'm on Lovenox).
Avatar n tn I'm on Coumadin and just found out yesterday that I am pregnant. I know that there is danger of miscarriage, birth defects, etc. I really need to hear some true stories right now. Good and bad. Anyone have any real cases they can discuss with me?
Avatar f tn 0 which is great but this is very rare. I have had to take Lovenox injections and coumadin to try to get it high enough. One time, due to some meds I was on, my INR was over 10 so I had to take a vitamin k pill which made it too low. I strictly go by the guidelines for taking coumadin but I really believe my metabolism causes a lot of my problems. My mom is in a nursing home and has the same problem. She had a St. Jude valve in 1991.
770426 tn?1235061489 I was on Coumadin for 2 months preprocedure and then 3 days before stopped and gave my self shots of Lovenox. Then I have taken the Coumadin for up to 3 mos after the ablation. Bllod thinners made me do nothing different in my life at all.
572651 tn?1530999357 t think of a clot. Anyway, I am resting comfortably in the hospital, started on Coumadin and having to do lovenox injections until my clotting is stable. For once I would be much happier if this was due to my MS. Doctor says I isn't go home tomorrow, but could be longer. We'll see.... I will be scarce for a while.
Avatar n tn I had a blood clot in October and I've been on coumadin ever since. When I was in the hospital for the blood clot, they made me stop my birth control pills. It took forever to get an appointment with my gyno to discuss new birth control treatment, and once we found one, it has taken another 4 weeks to get it in from the pharmacy. I went yesterday to get my birth control under way and I took a prego test before getting started. It was positive.
Avatar n tn What other methods are available for bridging other than Lovenox? Also, is it better to keep walking, or should I spend more time lying down? I am very discouraged. Thank you for any advice.
Avatar f tn I was treated with Lovenox and Coumadin and discharged on Xarelto. Does the clot in my heart still pose a threat to my health. I have been on Xarelto for about four days. I was also wondering if I should consider a clotting disorder since I had a blood clot 10 years ago in my leg. I am 57 years old and do not have any other problems with my heart such as A-fib. The only symptom I had was mild shortness of breath. The clots were discovered as an incidental finding on another test.
Avatar f tn Sorry you are having all this trouble. I, Like Jerry am on coumadin and stay in the theraputic range of 2-3 with a 5mg tab a day. Are you positive it's 20 mg and not 2 mg? Especially when you add the lovenox shots. I know there is a certain % of people who can't do the coumadin because of erratic levels. You might check out the dtails on that to see if you might fall into that group. Are you still walking 2-3 mi a day? Did the Dr put you on a beta-blocker or any other heart meds?
Avatar n tn I was therapeutic on Coumadin when I had another episode which revealed another PE about a month later. As far as I know, they have run every known test which all come back negative. Every scan that has been run reveal no DVT. I have been placed on Lovenox indefinitely and had an IVC filter put in (even though they are not sure where the emboli are coming from). Are there any other tests I can inquire about? Is it common to have a PE with no evidence of a DVT?
Avatar n tn Just read your post....I have been on coumadin for 25 years due to a MVR in 1986. Now I have to have the valve replaced Feb. 8 due to calcium buildup and an aortic anuerysm repaired. I HATE coumadin...I had 55 protimes last year so over 25 years I have done protimes many, many times. The INR will not stay regulated and I have been on Lovenox injections numberous times. Therefore, I am seriously considering having a tssue valve instead of a mechanical valve this time.
645220 tn?1233764146 Hi I just did my first lovenox injection and think I might not be doing it right. I really had to push very hard for the needle to go in then it stopped about a third of the way and I had to jam it in the rest of the way. does this sound right? I have plenty of fat so it's not as if I got held up on muscle or anything.
Avatar f tn Hi Amanda - I'd answered your question elsewhere but it looks like I got answers to some of my questions here, regarding the birth control and one condition combining with the other to cause the stroke. I was just reading up on Lovenox on Wikipedia and it listed situations where Lovenox and aspirin are used together to treat certain heart-related problems.
Avatar n tn They put in a screen to prevent clots from reaching his lungs, and they put him on a blood thinner called Coumadin (which is the same or similar to warfarin, I believe). He will probably be on the Coumadin the rest of his life. That's standard procedure, as I understand it. I take Evista (raloxifene) to fight osteoporosis. The box says that it could cause blood clots, so I know it's possible for drugs to be the culprit.
Avatar f tn Would it look and feel the same as any other blood clot or would you not know about it?
338416 tn?1420045702 Thanks for all your well wishes, guys - I got out on Monday, and I've been taking it as easy as possible since. Back at work today. They checked my INR this morning, and found that I was at therapeutic levels. With the injection I took this morning, I will probably be a bit too high tomorrow - so they're reducing my Coumadin temporarily. But the good news is now I can stop the Lovenox. Oh, and I lost 6 pounds.
Avatar n tn d get a second opinion on having to take coumadin for the rest of your life and maybe even a 3rd. The Lovenox and heparin do not cross into the placenta to the baby but coumadin does. I really hope you find this helpful. I've had a long 2 pregnancies, therefore chose not to have more children, but having the Factor 5, you can still definately have perfectly happy healthy children.
Avatar f tn Is your husband currently on coumadin or warfarin? If he had constant a-fib he certainly should be on a daily blood-thinner to ward off possible strokes. Please write again and let us know the situation he's now in.
1415174 tn?1453243103 They put me on Coumadin/warfarin and Lovenox injections until I get to the right dose of coumadin (which should be by this weekend). I was told that coumadin does not remove or breakup the clot it just prevents it from going to the lung/heart. But my question is when does the swelling from the clot go down and how does the body break it up or remove it on its own? And, how long will this take (approximately). I am in pain and am taking high dose Tylenol and can't take that forever.
