Lovenox and warfarin bridge therapy

Common Questions and Answers about Lovenox and warfarin bridge therapy

lovenox

1569985 tn?1328247482 drug so your blood is still thin while you are off the warfarin. They gave me Lovenox in the hospital, and I used it at home before my warfarin levels were up to where they wanted them after cardioversion. I did read of one post on here where the woman had a stroke after going off her blood thinning therapy before a colonoscopy. I have yet to have my colonscopy and that is one of the reasons. My Lovenox was paid for by my Medicare Part A because I received it in the hospital.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I am going to a different hospital for oncology and they want me to discontinue Warfarin 7 days before and use a Lovenox bridge injection for the interim. I called my regular EP and they say no need. What would you do? 7 days seems a long time without blood thinner -- I'm on it because I'm at risk for strokes, right? Any comments and/or advice would be welcome. Also, any pep talks welcome!
Avatar n tn I was in bed so much after Doxil also and should have been wearing the compression socks to prevent blood clots. I have not been on hormone therapy. I am on the shots and Coumadin (Warfarin).
Avatar n tn continue through with warfarin, or to stop the warfarin and bridge in between with enoxaparin or heparin (as snconorm had done). http://www.circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/116/22/2531 So continuing through with warfarin seems to be the newer strategy. What would NOT be done is to stop anticoagulation altogether.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your answer. My cardiologist mentioned stopping the warfarin and going with lovenox for 3 days prior to a catherization but said there was no need to stop taking plavix.
Avatar f tn Coumadin pre-operatively, as you state one considers the risks of hemorrhage or thromboembolism versus the benefit from the operation. When considering noncardiac surgery, these factors and the need to weigh the risk of hemorrhage against that of thromboembolism must analyzed on an individual patient basis. Certain procedures such as a bunion that are not procedure that threatens limb or life are easy analysis.
Avatar f tn Gastro ended up canceled to accomodate vascular surgeon appointments. Now after a week of Warfarin and Lovemox shots, I am scheduled for a venogram, thrombolysis and then surgery to remove my 1st rib. After that lots of Heparin and more Warfarin for at least a month..not to mention LOTS of painkillers as this is a tough surgery. My question is how damaging are these blood thinners, anesthesia, painkillers and contrasts to the liver?
Avatar n tn On 12/1 I had a complete metabolic profile drawn for a routine endocrinology follow up and LFTs then were ALT 17 and AST 18. The Sectral and Lovenox were initiated before my preop labs on 1/29, which showed LFTs elevated (ALT 120, AST 59). I am concerned that the Sectral has been toxic to my liver and want to stop the medication now. I will be having labs repeated on 2/13, and will see the gastroenterologist again on 1/21.
Avatar m tn Just wanted to say there shouldn't be a reason why you cant be taken off of warfarin and put on lovenox for the procedure. This is a pretty common way to handle cases where people are on blood thinners for some reason and need some type of surgical procedure done. After the biopsy you go back to the warfarin. I take coumadin and had to do this a few times with no problems. The lovenox is typically self injected with a syringe and is usually administered in the abdominal area.
942410 tn?1274047074 s why I am not going to be injecting the Lovenox any longer and today I skip my 5mg warfarin . I begin again the 5mg warfarin on Saturday and go for protime on Monday to see if it has come down a tad into the target range .
Avatar n tn What I did was stop the Coumadin 5 days before, and then 4 days before started Lovenox to bridge up until the surgery (Lovenox is a subcutaneous injection and is a Low Molecular Weight Heparin that will keep the blot thin enough to prevent clotting). The night of the day of the procedure I had, I restarted the Coumadin, and the following day after the surgery used Lovenox for 2 days giving the Coumadin time to begin building back up again.
Avatar f tn It was quite painful and I was treated with warfarin/coumadin pills and eventually the clots dissolved. Warfarin is NOT to be taken when pregnant because it will effect the baby so Lovenox/ heparin shots are often prescribed seeing as it is faster acting and won't reach the baby. I've also had surgery to place a little screen in my body to hopefully catch any blood clots from moving elsewhere in my body to my heart.
Avatar f tn I am 16 weeks pregnant and have had an Mitral Valve replacement around 20 yrs back - I am on Lovenox and now due to my heart condition my doc recommended I switch to Warfarin - I wanted to know if there is anyone out there who ahs taken warfarin in the second trimester and what are the outcomes? Please I will really apreciate it. I am so apprehensive but I know it will help my heart since i had 2 mini strokes recently. Please anyone out there?????
Avatar n tn m an LMSW and work with elderly and disabled individuals. About 2 months ago, I was doing visits and was out in the middle of nowhere, driving, when I felt a pressure across my chest and then my back started hurting pretty bad (around right shoulder blade and right arm). I could not get comfortable. Since, I wouldn't have known where to tell anyone to find me (I was really out in the countryside somewhere), and there was no traffic where I was, I decided to keep driving.
Avatar f tn I take lovenox 2 X a day I did it with my pregnancy with my daughter 12 years ago and she is healthy and so far I have healthy pregnancy this time as well..
Avatar n tn I had a PE in 2006 after a miscarriage, and was diagnosed about a month ago with three different blood clotting disorders. (Am currently on Lovenox and will be switching back to warfarin soon.) Am presently trying 50MG Tramadol (one every six hours) to try and abort this current migraine, but it doesn't seem to help much. I generally do avoid what you've mentioned. Is there a different med that might work better than the Tramadol? Thanks for the feedback!
Avatar n tn I hope you have called your doctor and switched your medication. Lovenox is an excellent alternative when one is pregnant. Call today if you haven't already! Coumadin can cause significant birth defects. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Ten days after giving birth to my 1st baby I had a pulmonary embolism so had Clexane injections initially along with 6 months of warfarin tablets. I am scared of this happening again so this time I am wanting to have Clexane injections during the pregnancy to prevent. Does anyone know at what stage of pregnancy I am likely to start these injections?
Avatar n tn I recently was in the hospital for a blood clot in the lungs and the put me on lovenox and warfarin, now I have severe gas which moves to my head and neck and cause me to get little if no sleep. Could this be caused by the medicine I am taking or something else?
Avatar n tn - why a clot should form in my heart when the muscles were damaged six years back and considering that I am on aspirin+clopidogrel which too have anti clotting function. - warfarin may be slightly better as compared to aspirin+ clopidogrel, but in my case with no AF, does it makes sense getting into this risky business of conatantly monitoring of INR and fear of bleeding. - I have seen on net some other drugs in market which are equally good as warfarin with lower risk of bleeding.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I went to the doctor and they did an ultrasound and found a blood clot. They put me on Coumadin/warfarin and Lovenox injections until I get to the right dose of coumadin (which should be by this weekend). I was told that coumadin does not remove or breakup the clot it just prevents it from going to the lung/heart. But my question is when does the swelling from the clot go down and how does the body break it up or remove it on its own? And, how long will this take (approximately).
Avatar m tn When I was monitored which was 1x wk due to my inr going all over, the nurse also listened to my lungs each time. If your inr goes down you can ask for lovenox shots until it goes up. I carried and still carry a lovenox shot everywhere with me- if you feel symptoms of PE: a very fast heart rate, pain, trouble breathing, you can inject it and go to an er immediately. I was told not to do any exercise except walking until the clot dissolved as anything else could dislodge it.
942410 tn?1274047074 Just back from the Bay Area a few jours ago after a 6 hour drive. Had catheter abalation on the 8th for afib and happy little pvcs and pacs that went along with it. It was an experience like no other what with the intubating and TEE ing and a million leads and a night in the hospital. A least they weighed me in Kilos so I didn't have to think about that. The Doc got the sites that showed their nasty little selves and a few that tried to hide.
178698 tn?1228774338 After testing I have Factor V Leiden and take 2x daily shots of 100mg lovenox. I already have had 3 natural pregnancies so this one surprised me. When I give my injection I find a spot that has some fat because it hurts worse to give the shot in the muscle and I get welts if I do. I go slow, I don't force the needle, if it won't go in I relax a little count to five in my head and try again. If it still doesn't work I try a different spot.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with lupus anticoagulant blood disorder. I have a leg full of clots that won't break up and go away. They have been treated for 3 years with warfarin, lovenox and cumadin. All to no avail. My gp doctor doesn't seem to have the knack to getting the INR levels stable. I've been at levels of 6 and 6.5 many times leading to ER transfusions. Last week it was 1.1 I'm worried because the symptoms are so much worse lately.
Avatar n tn 1) Have you ever heard of lovenox injections to prevent further clots in stents and 2) what are the risks from lovenox to her relatively healthy kidneys (after 30+ yrs of diabetes)? Thank you for your good advice. You were the only Dr. who said E.R.
Avatar m tn he has been on coumadin since initial diagnosis and also his doctor put him on lovenox shots for ten days. The lovenox was also given short term when he was diagnosed. There was another ultrasound done when he injured his leg and now they are not sure if he developed another clot or if this is the same clot.
Avatar n tn The breast surgeon (I had to push for a referral to him after the negative mammogram and ultrasound and after I was told not to worry about it) has now prescribed a month course of antibiotics--cipro--which I see could interact with the warfarin and which he says should get rid of the atypical cells. Could these two issues be related? What exactly does atypical pap cells mean for the breast and infection?
