Avatar m tn hey guys, I was diagnosed with short term memory back in high school...teachers were made aware of this issue & I was given extra time to take tests/study. A few years have passed since then, but I find that I seem to be forgetting things quicker than I used to. For instance, I couldnt even remember the name of a movie I saw with my friend two days ago or our conversation....sometimes conversations hours after they have occurred. is there anythinng I can do to help improve my memory???
Avatar f tn Does anyone know the long term effects of abusing pain killers? I found out today that a friend of my husbands actually had seizures because of how long she was on vicodin. Just curious.
1339419 tn?1275966042 My short term memory is not 100% as it is, although it is not as bad as my long term memory, and when my blood pressure is really high ( 160/100+ ) I seem to have short term memory loss that increases with the increasing blood pressure numbers. Is this a direct side effect of high blood pressure, others with hypertension having suggested it effects their short term memory, or is it confined only to myself because of my memory problems?
Avatar f tn Although I have no problem remembering facts and figures and my short term memory is better than most, I have no long term memory of events. I know it's normal not to remember childhood, but I don't remember high school or college or anything I did there. In fact, my oldest memory is looking outside and seeing chairs on the lawn at my mom's birthday. That was two weeks ago and there only seems to be a vague, blank space before it. Memories just fade after a few weeks.
Avatar m tn How long term? 6 months to a year is not that long to be on it, but if you are thinking like 5 to 10 years is more longer term. It is all definitely possible if it is needed, some times a drug will lose its ability to work after a while so has to be changed with another but I think if it works now then that's great and don't worry about the future to much, what will happen will happen. Sorry don't know about the memory and side effects long term.
Avatar m tn I have a severe difficulty staying focused. To the point where I can be having a conversation with somebody and the minute they turn around, I forget everything. I am afraid it is affecting my schooling as well. I can't remember much. Its like I have no short-term memory. what would you suggest I do? What type of medication can help me stay alert?
Avatar f tn Keep in mind you are doing great and the end will be there, maybe even sooner then you think. It is indeed the Angel dust and maybe also the long term use of benzodiazepines what you are stil recovering from at the moment. Keep in mind you are doing a fantastic job and you will get there.
Avatar f tn It is basically a softening of the brain matter as a result of an ischemia or infarction, degenerative changes, infection, craniocerebral trauma, or other injury. Thus any damage to this lobe can lead to long term memory loss. Certain types of epilepsies and seizures and sleep disturbances too cause short term memory loss along with tiredness or fatigue. Chronic infections too are known to precipitate memory loss. For this you can try yoga and meditation.
Avatar n tn After coratid artery surgery, experiencing memory loss which is not consistently short term or long term, is it possible for the brain to reconfigure areas damaged by particles that passed through the filter and regain the ability to remember? This discussion is related to short term memory loss.

1038916 tn?1264060250 From a Physiological point of view, is there negative long term effects from using SSRI's. ie: Is there any lasting long term changes to my reseptors and gland etc. I am using Escitalopram 10mg and have been for over a year.

Avatar f tn Ambien absolutely can cause memory loss, more commonly short-term issues, but also some people have reported problems with their long term memory as well. The good news is...if other causes have been ruled out, and Ambien seems to be the culprit, the memory issues will resolve most times after the Ambien is safely tapered.
Avatar f tn I've been experiencing some really irritating short-term memory loss problems (for myself as well as other people). I am 35, female and trying to figure out why and how I can improve this. Ther are a few things I have considered...I was in an auto accident last year. Avatar f tn Hello, I am wondering if anybody has a suggestion of medications that work to help with memory problems associated with SCT that will not cause more memory problems or possible brain damage with long term use?
Avatar m tn Those would be long term memories. If you really are at a complete loss for many long term memories then that may not be depression, but a completly different Neurological dissorder that is effecting your memory. I would first start by seeing a good neurologist about this. You need to rule out any other diseases of the brain that could cause such memory loss. You can trust me though, Even the worst depression won't wipe out long term memory.
1763947 tn?1334055319 Hi, I was wondering if any one else has experienced problems with short term memory? Mine is getting worse by the day and I am really worried. My friend called me one night and the next day when we spoke, I didn't remember ever talking to her the night before. This type of thing is happening more and more. My move was delayed until the end of the month which means I am delayed in seeing my new LLMD. Would love to hear if this is something many people experience?
Avatar m tn could do crosswords... not so good now, been doing bookkeeping all my life.... not so good now, pretty darn good at computers... not so good now. I stand to do something, can't remember what I stood up to do. It takes hours, even days to remember long term memories that others mention to me. This is extremely disconcerting to me, I feel like I'm fading away, that at this rate, year after year it gets worse. Could I be experiencing early onset Alzheimer's or dementia.
Avatar f tn Black outs occur as alcohol cuts off the supply of oxygen to the brain seriously disrupting the activity of several neurotransmitters in Your brain, These transmitters are responsible for storing short term memory and THEN responsible to transition short term into long term memory. When those receptors shutdown, short term memory fails to become (transition into) long term memory. This happens because of the level of alcohol in Your blood.

Avatar n tn Hi, When you have had a brain aneurysm removed and 10 years later the shunt fell of in my head the dr says it's not serious. But for the last 6 days my memory has been really bad. A friend came up and i was telling him all about my motorcycle then he went to check on the kids and i retold the story and i don't remember saying it the first time at all.. I knew short term memory would happen, but this was much worse than that.
571167 tn?1223214465 I've been on methadone for 6 months. And I loose everything. Keys credit cards anything I set down. Forget to do things. Sometimes I drop my mom off and drive home, forgetting to stop at the methadone clinic. The clinic says "I haven't heard of that". I'm on 80mg. Has anyone else experienced this as fast. I am really worried, my dad died 4 years ago. From glioblastoma, which is the worst type of brain cancer and one of the symptoms is short term memory loss.
