Common Questions and Answers about Loestrin for pcos

loestrin

Avatar f tn hello! I am a 30 year old recently diagnosed with PCOS. I have been feeling like garbage recently and have not been able to find a doctor who can help. I recently went through my lab results from September and see my Estradiol is <5.00 pg/mL. I am also on Lo Loestrin. Can the birth control be causing the very low numbers, my PCOS, something else? The numbers are those of someone in menopause, so it is a bit concerning. Any insight is appreciated!
Avatar m tn I'm 23 and on birth control (Loestrin 24). Normally my periods are somewhat regular, but really light and short. Last month I didn't have one, but I did have some slight spotting before my period was supposed to come. This month my period also skipped. I have no other symptoms of PCOS except some acne on my chin (but occasional breakouts are not uncommon for me, I have oily skin, plus an expired skin product and eating wheat with my allergy may have caused this).
Avatar n tn I had two dermoid cysts/tumors, one on each ovary (the one on left ovary was very large) that had been misdiagnosed for years. Only in the last two years was I in any kind of pain. I had emergency surgery last May to remove the dermoids. I did not have a real period until March. I was put on Loestrin birth control pills to "give my ovaries a rest" and stop functional cysts from occuring. But for six months I was in excruciating pain.
Avatar n tn i have never been this late for my period no matter how much stress ive been under and took a blood and urine test and both neg my period was supposed to be here may 20th and here it is the 7th of june whats goin on?
Avatar f tn The Loestrin helps me but if I miss a pill or am late I get a light period. Today I noticed more pelvic pain while I exercised. Made me think of how acupuncture has helped in the past. Can not afford visits. But if I am better about the Loestrin is helps. I buy nearly 4.5 months worth from a Canadian website for $75.
Avatar f tn I am waiting out a surgery to see if any hormone therapy will do the trick because I have to pay out of pocket. The doctor wants me to try loestrin 24 for 3 months. My question is, does anyone have experience with both? I hate to second guess my doctor, but I am wondering how a lower dose can do better for me than Yaz? Also, I have been extremely depressed since a month or two after starting Yaz, and I turned down anti-depressants in hopes that a new medication will help with that.
1820715 tn?1317186372 I was recently diagnosed with pcos. I have had irregular periods for as along as I can remember! Last month I went to see my gynecologist to get on some bc to see if it would help with my irregular bleeding, well now it seems that it got worse! I have been taking lo loestrin fe for almost a month and am double dosing for about a week and the bleeding hasn't stopped, it has slowed a little bit.
Avatar f tn In the early months I get bad period and pms symptoms that go away over time. So if Loestrin is working well for your migraines you might want to stick it out and see if the other issues subside.
Avatar f tn A week later I went back in for an abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound which confirmed that I have PCOS. I am currently on Loestrin and it seems to have helped the acne a little but my periods are still very irregular.
Avatar f tn Hi! If you were my patient, I would encourage you to consider an IUD for birth control. The Mirena can be a very convenient and effective method. If you want a regular cycle though, oral contraceptives are probably your best bet. You probably need to give then a fair try (two to three MONTHS) if you are going to use them. There will be some type of side effect with each method, so, you will have to consider which is going to be most tolerable for you. Good luck!
Avatar m tn I have been on Loestrin for about 4 months now, true it is low in hormones but I am taking it continuously for Endometriosis so I haven't had any spotting at all. Loestrin itself means low in estrogen.
Avatar f tn BUT from March 20-30 I took antibiotics for a sinus infection. I was still on Loestrin but I stopped taking it March 29th because I hadn't had my period since January 5th and I was feeling pregnant. Anyway, I started bleeding April 1-4. I started my new pills Ortho on April 6th. Now I'm feeling VERY CRAMPY in my stomach. I've just read that some people have gotten pregnant on this pill because it is low estrogen. I'm just wondering...
Avatar m tn Hi, i have been on lo loestrin fe for 1 month. Today i am taking second brown pill, which is also the last one...i feel menstrual pain for a few days, but no menstruation. I am worried! Is pregnancy possible if i had intercourse with my bf (while i was on the pill) but he had never ejaculated inside? It is written that lo loestrin fe is protecting you from the first day if u are starting on the first day of your period. Thats how i did. But why is my period not coming?
Avatar n tn I have been taking Loestrin (generic) for about a year. My doctor gave me the brand as a sample to save some money. I am in week three of the first pack. My period started yesterday. What can cause this early bleeding?
Avatar f tn I started Lo Loestrin Fe oral birth control pill on January 14, 2014 after being off of it since Thanksgiving of 2013. Previously I had constant break-though bleeding (more like a period- for even 2 and a half weeks) and cramps. I switched to Microgestin and that made me so sick I stopped, and then restarted Lo Loestrin Fe. I have taken it everyday and have never missed a pill.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure in 1998 at 29 with an FSH of 165 and estrogen less than 10. I used loestrin as HRT for about 8 years and then started having much trouble tolerating it, I couldn't get through 1/2 a pack without extreme bloating, fatigue and breast pain.
Avatar f tn I have been on lo loestrin fe for the past 4 months. This past month I had breakthrough bleeding. I've been told that breakthrough bleeding means that I am not protected anymore, but does that mean that my pills were not working for the entire month prior to breakthrough or just the time after that? Could I have gotten pregnant before breakthrough even if I had taken pills regularly? Thanks so much!
Avatar n tn I also took lo loestrin for about a month and stopped right before the brown pills because I was also feeling depressed. The day after I stopped I got hives on my back, neck, and stomach around the time that I was supposed to take my brown pill. Not sure if it would happen that quickly but its a possibility.
Avatar n tn So like I said, this is aparently normal when on Loestrin. Im going to go on the generic of Loestrin, Junel Fe, which worked for me in the past and I think its 21 days of the pill and than 7 days of the "period" part. As much as I dread my period, it's a reassuring thing.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am on lo loestrin fe and i have been on it continuously for about two years and on the birth control I stopped getting my period. On Sunday I was sick and threw up for a while but it was later in the day at least 6 hours after i took my birth control pill. The next day I had vaginal spotting/bleeding and still took my dose at the normal time. It has been three days and I am still lightly spotting. Is there a problem or something I can do?
Avatar f tn Thanks! I'm really trying to get this breakthrough bleeding under control, as it is very annoying. I feel like I can't live a normal life...that is why I went on the pill. The loestrin was great for my period (just spotting), but I would spot from day 14 on! I will start FemCon when I finish this pack. Thanks for your thoughts!
Avatar f tn I have been taking Cryselle (thats the generic name - I think it may be the Lo Loestrin but check with you dr). I have been on it for a few years now and haven't had any problems with weight. I may get a zit here and there but NOTHING near a breakout by any means.
