There are different types of carbohydrates. For example breads, pasta, potatoes and rice and then there are vegetables and fruits. Restrict & avoid refined sugars, practice and adhere to weight control, do some sort of exercise daily, practice stress management, and get adequate sleep. These are all important in managing this illness, the most important, along with proper nutrition, is physical activity. Walking, not strolling, helps to lower blood sugar levels.

Sports drinks can contain upwards of 7 Tablespoons of sugar, or more, per 12oz. Deadly. Exercise 30 minutes daily and maintain proper body weight are just as important as proper nutrition. Good luck.

Try having 5 small meals per day, set apart 2.5hours / 3hours. Also, whenever you feel like you want a snack, eat some fruit instead of junk food. Also, don't forget, an hour or more per day of cardio and heavy weight lifting will help you burn fat faster, resulting in you losing weight.

You will need to drink lots of water in the hours before your test. Hydration is very important. They will give you a "drink" and you will wait for about 45min to 1 hour. You are put on a table and the table slides through a large tube .. it truly isn't bad and over quite quickly with no side effects. Good luck ...

The best way to see the effects of food on your sugar levels is to test using a home test kit 2 hours after eating. If your levels are really high medications like metformin may also help. I don't really overeat, and the things that I do eat, I think out and try to make healthy meals, but I still ended up with gestational diabetes. Unfortunately, it's just something that happens because of all of the weird things that happen in pregnancy. I've learned to just go with it... That being said, I was advised to count how many grams of carbs that I take in and what foods contain them.
Avatar n tn Porridge, Wheetabix, Shredded Wheat, fruit ALL contain significant amount of carbohydrates. I cant eat any of those (in significant quantity, 1 spoon full is about it) without having BG climb to un healthy levels (over 140) you NEED to use a BG meter to see what works for you.
