Avatar m tn Doctor has suggested me Linezolid antibiotic for 7 days since Enterococcus Faecilis was found in semen culture and sensitivity test. My question is - Is this infection very dangerous and does it affects fertility?
Avatar m tn i took linezolid for 1 month, 2 tablets per day. this is the last antibiotic which dr. uses. also the course should not be of few days because it requires long term intake of these tablets to totally remove this bacteria. also one negative thing is that this antibiotic will work for life time... but if some how you get infected with any new unknown bacteria (which is very very rare after taking this antibiotic) then no other antibiotic will work. ask you dr.
Avatar m tn http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linezolid#Adverse_effects Interactions Linezolid is a weak monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), and should not be used concomitantly with other MAOIs, large amounts of tyramine-rich foods (such as pork, aged cheeses, alcoholic beverages, or smoked and pickled foods), or serotonergic drugs.
Avatar n tn Effective, on-going drainage of the boil will be as important as the antibiotic therapy. First, you should re-confirm that the Staph causing your daughter’s infection, truly is one of the more resistant, more dangerous varieties. For a very long time, a medicine called vancomycin has been the treatment of choice for infection with Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Now, other medicines seem to be more effective, including teicoplanin and linezolid.
Avatar f tn I am an English women living in India. I had urine test and indicated few bacteria present so got antibiotic amoxicillin and doxicillin. The symptoms cleared quickly (although not 100%). However the day after I stopped taking the antibiotic they came back.I was in a rural area at the time and couldnt get correct test so a doctor gave me ampillin and cloxicllin to tide me over. Again some but not full relief.
Avatar m tn A patient 90 years old, suffering congestion, dry cough, urinary infection, under dosage of cough syrup was sleepy. Then was given Cefuroxime, Linezolid antibiotic, corex syp and metolazone diuretics when partially conscious. He didnt eat much drank 50 ml water in last 14 hours and nothing after that. Later in the evening his oxygen was down to 70 SpO2. In 1.5 hours he was given oxygen with oxygen machine and the oxygen started to increase in a bit.
Avatar n tn Antibiotics are often targeted to work on some bacteria better than others. Are they suggesting a different antibiotic to rid of staph? Drug resistance is an increasing issue too with staph. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17445677/ Here's an article I found helpful for other ideas for treatment too. https://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn and for MRSA ( methyl in resistant staph aureus) there are other drugs. I was given linezolid which had reduced my Haemoglobin to 8 and increased my liver enzymes sky high. They need to monitor your blood regularly with the latter. At the end of the day usually GM is an inflammatory condition and pus usually is sterile. GM may be triggered by bacteria but bacteria die usually with first antibiotics course...good luck.
Avatar m tn Enterococcus faecalis is suspectible to Ampicilin, penicilin, rifampin, norfloxacin, vancomycin, linezolid and is resistant to tetracycline and synercid.I'm temporary in US and I have no insurance and I wonder is it wise to take any of these antibiotics, even though I was told by a doctor that antibiotic hardly get to this area and do the work,is there any possibility to eliminate this bacteria in my urine?
Avatar m tn I think it is folliculitis. I was prescribed by physician Amoxicillin Clavulanate 625 mg 1 tab thrice daily + Linezolid 600 mg 1 tab twice daily along with B-complex cap for 7-10 days. I took the medication for 7 days and all the infection seemed to disappear. But after 2 weeks of finishing my medication, the infection seems to re-occur. Please advise.

Avatar n tn What antibiotic were you on? Quite a few are safe during pregnancy. Some are not.
Avatar n tn The doctors ran tests and he had stool in his blood. The doctor gave him CYPROS (antibiotic) for a total of 6 days. He had several CT scans and lately a barium to show the leak is still there with no fistulas. Following the barium, he had a bit of stool coming out of his rectum. My question is, should he not be on antibiotics until this leak repairs itself or should he go back to the OR? If he has a colonostomy, does some bowel still pass in the colon?
1070570 tn?1283436213 I haven't had the exact situation like you're talking about but I would think *normally* a GI specialist would put you on a powerful antibiotic that's not absorbed easily into the bloodstream like Flagyl for example. That's usually used for infections in stool, colon but each bug has it's own special antibiotic that is more effective than others. If you have ALL those (holy smokes..
Avatar f tn any of you ladies had any type of antibiotic prescribed during pregnancy? you see im im afraid because my last pregnancy ended in miscarriage. during time when i was very sick and only thing i took was tylenol, am i blaming that medicine?.....no, just happened...now im afraid to take any medecine.
Avatar f tn Hi, My skin is very sensitive, I have eczema and other chronic skin problems. This summer I got 3 different insect bites on my legs, each bite developed into red, itchy, swelling and warm to touch with 2 days. Each time I called my doctor and he said it's a combination of skin infection and my allergic reaction to the bites. Each time I'm prescribed with antibiotic and it has helped me.
