I see the confusion If I understand you, you think Levemir is used for carbohydrates. Levemir is a basle insulin, meaning it works for 24 hours. Like a background insulin. the amount of Levemir taken has nothing to do with the amount of carbohydrates (carbs) you eat. That type of insulin is called a bolis insulin, like Apedra, Novalog... that insulin is taken according to how many carbs are eating and YOUR particular carb to insulin ratio.

To night I will keep bed time sugar 10(as standard comparator for morning sugar) and take 26 unit Levemir and no bed time snack. I will see how much it goes down in the morning.

I am taking 13 unit humalog for each meal and 23 unit Levemir at at bed time. But I am having shortness of breath some times after taking insulin, or walking.

Consult your endocrinologist about possibly changing the time that you take the Levemir, as that could change your scores. Mornings typically are high blood sugar times anyway, because of the simple acts of getting up and going, so if your long acting insulin isn't there to help you, that would certainly explain your scores. Hi.I have a question. I've been a diabetic Type 1 for close to 45 years. Recently my endocrinologist suggest I use Lantus. She thought it would be better for me. I also use Humalog. She started me with 48 units of Lantus, at night. I quickly noticed that it was too high of a dosage. I was waking up in the middle of the night hypoglycemic. The lowest was 2.9 and even then, in the morning, sometimes at 3.5-4.0. She decided to bring it down to 40. Not low enough.

Hi, I have not used lantus, but I do use levemir. Both are medium acting basal insulins. Levemir works best injected twice a day. I inject just before going to bed (22 units), and when I wake up in the morning (8 units). As you can see, I don't use the same dose morning and evening, as I find I need more basal insulin at night when I am inactive, than during the day when I am active. You will need to adjust your dosage based on your target blood sugar levels.

The Levemir is NOT on a sliding scale. It is a given does once a day Or twice a day. 12 hours apart. is his 224 after eating or first thing in the morning before food or drink?

When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.

I take 40 units Lantus (long acting), and sliding scale Novolog (fast acting) insulins. My bg is always so high in the mornings, I have to take Novolog and wait for sugar to come down to eat. I am an insulin dependant diabetic. I was out of Levemir for several days and I tried to control with Novolog. Wednesday and Thursday I was running over 600. Yesterday I got my Levemir and started taking it right away. It took most of the day to get down to 350. I was feeling real sick all day. Sleepy, dizzy, nauseous. muscle weakness. I slept from 6:00 pm until 10:00 am. My numbers were up to 500 again. I got them back to 300 by 3:00 pm, but have continued to feel just as sick.

My daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 5 years old. She has been giving NPH with Humalog. It hasn't been working much though because she's high most of the time even when we watch what she eats and exercises. It just doesn't make much sense why the NPH isn't working anymore. I have just started takeing care of my mother in law who is in stage 4 breast cancer and her dr gave her Morphine SO4 IR 15mg one tablet every 3 hours and Morphine SO4 ER 30ENDO one tablet every 12 hours and I am confused on how to give them to her, she says I can give them to her at the same time and I am worried about it causing an overdose and I am having a hard time reaching her dr for instruction on how to give it to her, do i give her one first and then wait a few hours to give the other

First, I am very sorry to hear that you were a nonresponder 5 years ago and now seem not to have had good results with triple therapy (for whatever reason). I am going to leave the detailed clinical responses to the experts. I have my own opinion and theory, but it is just that, opinion, so I won't exress it here. The experts on the forum are much more knowledgeable and can give you better answers backed by facts. However, I will add my two cents about the timing and dosing.

It was working so well for me previously. I went to a new endo about a year ago, and he suggested I try Levemir instead of the Lantus. Once I started the Levemir, I noticed a marked improvement with more consistent bg levels. I am a Type 1 diagnosed at 33, and I am 10 years into the disease. I take sliding Humalog and 12 U Levemir at bed. I hope this helps.

I am trying to lower my sugar level with the help of humalog and levemir. Medhelp members are helping me to do the job. In the mean time I have been successful in lowering the sugar to some extents. I also could know how to dose the insulin for the best results I appriciate the cotributions done by MEDHELP and its members.

Because the times of day I was dosing were convenient for me, when the time changed last autumn I adjusted my Incivek dosing by 30 minutes a day (over a 2-day period) so I could maintain my normal dosing times (doctor okay'd that approach). My approach sounds similar to what Advocate1955 did.

I even tried Levemir, but after two days the pains came back. I stopped all shots and the pain and other symptoms went away. Is there an insulin that doest not cause stomach pain, chills, and vomiting?

Since I started levothyroxine, I went immediately from being cold all the time, to perspiring profusely. My blood pressure has shot up, and is around the 190/100 mark or thereabouts. I have horrible;le tinnitus, and my chest aches, and generally I feel weird. Is it possible my dose is too high for starters. Or should I give it a bit more time to settle. I have only been taking it for two weeks so far, but I absolutely hate the perspiring.

ve been found to have extremely low cortisol and have been following the dosing chart on *************************. Basically every 3 or 4 days you increase by 2.5mg if you haven't seen it. Initially I was feeling slightly better on one dose of 2.5mg each morning then a day or two after being on two doses of 2.5mg I started to feel very spaced out, dizzy, exhausted and confused. I read somewhere that ideally you should raise your dose every 2 weeks or so. Would you agree with this?
