Levaquin dosage for gonorrhea

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin dosage for gonorrhea

levaquin

Avatar m tn Levaquin isn't used in 90% of the country (if you mean the US) for gonorrhea, but it is used frequently for prostatitis. And no, gonorrhea wouldn't show up on a pap smear. It would, however, show up on an std test that the doc might have done along with the pap. You have a clear diagnosis of an infection in your prostate. I would go with that.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your reply. They tested me for chlamydia but I'm not sure about gonorrhea. After taking the first round of antibiotics I still tested positive for chlamydia. I took another round and got retested. I don't know the results yet but I still experience symptoms after two weeks of taking the medication. I'm avoiding sex completely until this clears up. My doctor offered doxycycline as an alternative to Levaquin. If that doesn't work I can ask him about Erythromycin.
Avatar f tn It will cure chlamydia, not gonorrhea.
Avatar n tn You have to pay to post in the Expert forum for a Dr to answer.
Avatar n tn t cure it any more) for many meds. The ONLY recommended treatment now for gonorrhea is only one medication. http://www.cdc.gov/std/treatment/2006/updated-regimens.
Avatar m tn Levaquin is effective for about 90% of gonorrhea infections but not all and, for that reason, is no longer recommended for gonorrhea. My advice would be that, rather than take chances that she was cured by the levaquin, your wife needs to at least be tested for gonorrhea at both the throat and the cervix (genital tract) and treated for exposure, probably with the same medicines your received which, I suspect, were ceftriaxone (the shot) flagyl (the 4 pills) and doxycycline.
Avatar m tn Went to the Dr on 10/21, sent me for a urine test, but he prescripbed levaquin 500mg /day for 7 days because symtoms sounded like gonorrhea or chlamydia. Have now taken two of the levaquins, and the discharge has stopped, still some burning upon urniation, but have developed a dribble of urine after voiding. Is this dribble normal with gonorrhea/chlamydia, and will the levaquin clear the infection?
Avatar m tn I got symptoms that resemble chlamydia or gonorrhea (frequent urination, weird feelin in the tip of my penis) so I took levaquin 750mg tabs once a day for five days. Is that enough levaquin to knock out either of those stds? I'm still gettin the urge to urinate frequently and now I'm wondering could it be some kind of bladder infection? Any help is appreciated greatly.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am on Levaquin for a sinus infection and I just found out that my sexual partner had gonnorhea. And I was wondering if the Levaquin would take care of the gonnorhea if I had it.
Avatar m tn Panacing i took 1g of Zpack orally then got tested two days later I took another 1g pack. the results came back negetive. Still having the same feeling I took 500mg of Levaquin. Then I read that it was no longer recommended for GC so i took a 250mg shot of Ceftriaxone. Is this enough to kill Chlamydia and Gonorrhea? Could it just be Urthetitis and would these meds take care of that too? Need answers please.
Avatar n tn I was also on my last day of 10 day course of levaquin for a sinus infection. I did test myself for GC 6 days later, because of unprotected oral, I tested for GC on the day I posted the question. The results came back negative. Any chance that the levaquin could have interfered with the GC testing? Also I have been having sore throat for 2 days. Do I need to get tested for pharyngeal gonorrhea? Will I get disseminated Gonorrhea from asymptomatic pharyngeal gonorrhea?
Avatar n tn I asked before if could have gotten std from a blowjob and it seems that gonorreah is the only std possible as it lives in the mouth. however, while i have been treated with bactrim and levaquin with no results, the cdc says these drugs are not effective with gonorrhea. isn't ceftriaxine the most effective and shouldnt i be treated with this? second, could i have passed gonnorhea to my wife while on levaquin and on bactrim?
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with epdidymitis, octilis (sp), and prostatis. The doctor said my prostate felt a little infected. I've noticed some obvious red spots in my stool the last couple of times. Blood? Simutaneously, my left scrotum is sore and swollen for 1.5 weeks. I've been treating it with ice, ibuprofen, levaquin, and loratab for several days. Not really sure if the medicine's working after 3 days. May not be enough time. 38 years old, active, good shape.
Avatar n tn Is there a chance that the initial treatments for my girlfriend and I did not clear up the infection completely? Is Levaquin a treatment for these and would the extended course have cleared these up? I do not have the classic symptoms of either of these maladies but my urinary tract does not feel 100% right. I appreciate any help you can give.
1211949 tn?1271716170 Ive been on azythromycin twice and levaquin as well as suprax for gonorrhea even though I tested negative for it. I have taken two tests since and both have come back negative from gonorrhea and chlamydia. Things just dont feel right down there. I have been to a urologist twice, and he thinks I am okay. But I masterbated earlier and it stung a little bit while i tried to hold back an orgasm. I am afraid because that was the one symptom I had along with yellow discharge when I had chlamydia.
Avatar n tn t hurt, but afterwards there can be a slight stinging sensation. Reading up on symptoms I can either have a UTI or gonorrhea.
Avatar m tn at the same time I was still on the Levaquin...that I feel is important because we were on the Levaquin at the same time for a week. If We had any GC or NGU...that should have been cured concurrently right? From that point she got better with exception of 2 yeast infections which she insists are normal and she does have frequently... and I did not...which leads me to the prostatitis again. But the timing of the prostatitis really has be snagged. On a side note...
Avatar m tn The chance that you have oral gonorrhea or, for that matter, any other STD is very, very low. Oral gonorrhea does not cause symptoms in most people who have it. It is far more likey that you have a lingering viral infection. If you are worried about gonorrhea, get tested. I predict it will be negative. This will conclude this thread.
Avatar n tn None of these is likely to cause pain without discharge or other symptoms. But if you were incubating gonorrhea or NGU, the azithromycin and levaquin would have prevented them. The fact that the treatment made no difference is further evidence that the pain was not due to any STD. 2) In theory, if you were infected by the oral sex event, you could have transmitted the infection to your partner the next day. But since almost certainly you didn't catch an STD anyway, partner no.
Avatar m tn well i was confident that my partner was clean... sigh... ill just finish my kelfex dosage for a week .. well i wasnt sure if it is gonorrhea but after the IM the discharges were gone just like before. my problem is the dysuria...
Avatar m tn 0 gram dose of azithromycin will cure nearly all chlamydial infections and is the recommended therapy for NGU. For gonorrhea the 2.0 gram dose is recommended. The 2.0 gram dose is also the dose shown to be effective for syphilis. You describe taking 1500 mg (1.5 grams) over about 3 days. This dose would probably cure most chlamydial infection and NGU and some gonorrhea or syphilis but not all. Beyond that, there really no way to answer your question with complete confidence.
849259 tn?1244637661 thanks aj I really appriciate your input ....Im going to finish my levaquin and wait for my std results. If the pain doesnt go away I will make another appointment with my gynecologist.
Avatar f tn My prior medical history is gastroparesis (of unknown etiology) and was just recently treated for a sinus infection with Levaquin 750 mg for 5 days. I was also very nauseous and dizzy today for several hours. Had a vague pain behind my eyes. Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn Receiving oral...gonorrhea, NGU, herpes and syphilis. Gonorrhea and NGU most common and without symptoms at this point not a worry. Do state clinics or Dr's office. Don't pay for testing through an independent company.
