Lantus when to take

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus when to take

lantus

Avatar n tn I would suggest that you wait to take your Lantus shot until you normally take it the next day. You may need to check your blood sugar a couple extra times and may need to increase your Novolog dosage at one or more meals. Just be careful and take less rather than more to be safe. Good luck.
Avatar n tn It is time to check in with your end about this pattern. When we have a severe low, it does take time for our liver to restore the levels of glycogen needed to combat the next low. If your overall level of activity has increased since diagnosis, or if you're in a different stage of life when your metabolism has increased, you may well need to recompute your insulin:carbo ratio *and* your insulin sensitivity.
20693191 tn?1503884408 I take Lantus but I have to take it twice a day it wont last all day for me. I don't know your health info but I do know that 48 units is an extremely high dosage. I take 22 in the am and 22 at night but that's becuase it doesn't last but 12 hours in me. I tried to take Levemir and that one would barely hold me over for 8 hours. Its sometimes has to be a try and see phase.
1353681 tn?1387083733 I inject just before going to bed (22 units), and when I wake up in the morning (8 units). As you can see, I don't use the same dose morning and evening, as I find I need more basal insulin at night when I am inactive, than during the day when I am active. You will need to adjust your dosage based on your target blood sugar levels. Another new basal insulin is tresiba. This is a long acting basal insulin and is only injected once a day.
Avatar m tn Iam type 2 diabetic for app. 8 years. I have been taking LANTUS for app. 4 months now. For the last three months i have been experiencing swelling/pain of my hands, then foresrms, and now my shoulders and neck.My "doctor" seems to be oblivious to these issues. I have met two other people that had this issue and both stopped using LANTUS and the swelling/pain is going away. Has this side effect been reported before??
Avatar m tn When you eat or when your BG is too high you need to take insulin that is faster acting than Lantus. Humalog lasts about 4 hours has its peek action in about 1 1/2 hours. So yes it is normal to take Lantus 1X a day and Humalog several times a day.
Avatar n tn It could just be that your body is learning to adjust to the lantus, and the sweating will go away when you get used to it. Your weight gain could be because of the same thing, your body reacts differently to different types of insulin, and now your body is trying to figure out how to deal with lantus.
Avatar n tn If I took Lantus in the A.M. (Aprox 6:30 or so) my peak would be about 5 or 6 hours later. This would be my lunch time. I could use a sliding scale determined at lunch. If I forgot the dinner shot, the Lantus would still be working. And I could still test at bedtime and bolus if needed.
Avatar n tn this is for 8 hours of sleep.....dont take it with humalog....humalog is only for when you eat and lantus only when you sleep....You guys have got some bad information and I would be afraid if I had your guy's doctors.... take it before you sleep ...just 25 units...
Avatar n tn I went to a diabetes education class that teaches about the sliding scale and how to take your Humalog. However, my doc gave me a formula to use to counteract high blood sugars when not enough insulin has been taken. It's (bloodsugar) - 100 divided by 40. So, if your blood sugar is 300 you would subtract 100 to get 200. Divide that by 40 to get 5 units of Humalog. I also have a scale for when I eat. It's for every 15 grams of carbs I take 2 units of Humalog.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am a 51 year old female with Type 2 Diabetes. I am overweight (100 lbs) and have other complications due to my obesity. (stent placement) I am currently taking Metformin 1000 mg x 2 twice daily, plus Lantus Solostar, 27 units. When I began the insulin, my blood glucose was over 400! Now it is down between 200 - 230 in the morning. They want to put me on a different type of insulin to take with meals. I don't want to do that.
Avatar n tn Yesterday was told by a nurse that the Lantus I take is really low compared to amount of Humalog I take, but she never told me HOW much she thought I should be taking. I take 1.5 u Humalog per carb for all meals (for last 3 weeks - has changed many times). I'm supposed to take 11 u Lantus in am. My morning BS is usually 300-500. I think the Lantus is not lasting 24 hours. If I try to split the dose, I'm wondering if I need to just take 5 and 6, or if I need to up the overall dose.
Avatar m tn I am now up to 25 units of lantus and 1000 in the AM and 500 in the PM of metformin. I have liver issues and maybe the IR is playing into this. Anyone have any insight into this?
Avatar n tn -) Just take it one day at a time, and keep a good Log Book so you can look back over patterns that form.
Avatar n tn I tried to decrease my lantus intake from 28u to 21u, but the nighttime drop didnt decrase or disappaer, insated i started to have very high readings during daytime. I also tried to take lantus twice a day, but that didnt make any difference either. I am wondering whether this is some hormone related issue ,or whether I have developed some resistance vs humalog so it doesnt work well (and the lantus is too much).
Avatar n tn My own preference would be to go back on the Lantus and give it another try. Perhaps eating a smaller snack or taking a littl less Lantus might do the trick. It does take a while to figure out the right dosage for you when you begin any new routine. Ultimately, the Lantus should be able to give you better control and more lifestyle flexibility. I'm assuming that you take regualr insulin at mealtimes in conjunction with the Lantus.
Avatar n tn I never really experienced this, but when I was switched to Lantus my Endo actually told me that there was a possibility of weight gain.
462570 tn?1273632977 I have been placed on Lantus and started that in Jan. 08. I run fastings in the 130s to 140s (on a good day I'll read out in the high 120s!) and depending on the time of month, what I have eaten and my pain level from fibromyalgia - my 2 hours are usually 140s to 160s. (Normally in 150s). My last HC1a was 6.1. Anyone else out there that is lean, type 2 and has to use insulin? Has anyone used Lantus and had a side effect of intermittent nausea even when sugar levels are okay?
Avatar n tn I have been using Lantus for almost a year. It has eleviated some problems, but it isn't perfect. I have refused to take 2 daily injections, that seems to negate the publicized advantages. I no longer have the overnight lows that caused problems with Lente/Regular humalin and that has helped.
Avatar f tn HELLLO, I AM FRESH OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND THEY WANT ME TO CONTINUE MY INSULINE REGIMENT WITH LANTUS AND NOVOLOG BUT THEY DIDNT TELL ME WHICH ONE TO TAKE WHEN LIKE WITH MEALS AND BEFORE BED. I NEED HELP BEFORE I END UP BACK IN THE HOSPITAL. CAN YOU HELP ME FAST?
915277 tn?1252573113 Anyone out there on Lantus, and have you heard about this and will you stop using Lantus due to this news?? What bothers me about this news is that the study seems a bit shaky...but, I also feel, where there is smoke, can fire be far behind?? I, myself, am thinking of changing to Levemir, at least until the experts decide what to do. Only because, I have enough health problems, if I can save myself some anguish, I think I will...What's your take on this issue??
Avatar n tn In my case, it takes a bit less Lantus than it did NPH when I was on it. It sounds as if you do need to increase your dosage... I personally don't notice a huge difference between one or two units more or less. I would suggest that you don't wait for your appointment, but call your doctor and tell him or her what your sugars are running (write down the results so you have a record) and ask if you should increase by another 2 units. I personally love Lantus...
Avatar m tn as I never heard of these problems with Lantus. Lantus is a 24 hour basal insulin that starts to work in an hour after injected and lasts most of the day without peaking. Also, I have never heard of a Lantus pen but have a call into our local rep to ask. My teenage son has Type 1 diabetes and there is never a dull moment with diabetes, is there.
Avatar n tn I did however have an incident recently that took me to the ER. When I injected the Lantus into my ab, I was immediately able to taste it. I went to bed and woke up about an hour later with a blood sugar of 36. My daughter panicked and called 911. I was told in the ER that I had a common insulin reaction. It wasn't until the next day when I saw my family doctor that I found out that I did indeed hit a vein.
Avatar n tn I am on lantus and the Novolog pen. I know when I first started lantus I got very anxious and before I had to take it, just in a dead panic. I can not fully answer your question, but I need your help. Can you ask your daughter if her lantus burns, itches, and/or does the area she injects it (arm, leg, stomach) feel heavy or like a big knot is under it?
