Lantus humalog ratio

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus humalog ratio

humalog

Avatar f tn carb ratio. I also highly recommend the book, Using Insulin by John Walsh.
Avatar f tn I had the same issue and my doctor increased my lantus. It may be necessary to lower your humalog to carbohydrate ratio. My endocrinologist got it spot on.
Avatar n tn I am wondering whether this is some hormone related issue ,or whether I have developed some resistance vs humalog so it doesnt work well (and the lantus is too much). I have given up using any alcohol or doing demanding exercise(jogging) for a while becuase they make the matters worse (though i really enjoy exercising). any suggestions to why this is happening or how i can take care of this would be greatly helpful.
Avatar n tn 17 yrs? and now your asking? You R Serious, right? Go ahead take just the Lantus and test every couple of hours after and of course before meals and see what happens.. and I surely Hope you got the book > Think Like a Pancrease my friend..
Avatar f tn 40). He is really WEAK, when this occurs should more humalog (as in correction) be given? It's bedtime and I don't want him to drop low.
Avatar m tn I just started on Lantus and Humalog and my blood sugars seem to keep going up, I take 30 U at night Lantus and I take Humalog 10 before meals if my bs is 180 or higher, does this sound right, I was diagnosed a Type 2 about 6 years ago, but the Glipizide and Metformin I was taking has been stopped, but my fasting bs has been 270 or higher any suggestions I know control my diet I get that, I also weigh 239 my Dr's say to loose weight, and I am going to try.
1452593 tn?1285187324 My Dr has prescribed a glucose 2hr PC as part of my regular HA1c bloodwork, and I wonder what he hopes to learn. I use Lantus in the morning for my baseline and Humalog for meals/high sugar etc. His instructions have never been clear when I go for the bloodwork after fasting ( the other tests he runs at the same time as the HA1c require a 12 hr and 8 hr fast). Should I administer both insulins as I would normally (Lantus at brreakfast time and Humalog if the fasting sugar is high, ie.
Avatar n tn My grandson is a Type 1 diabetic. He takes Lantus at night, NPH and Humalog at Breakfast, and Humalog at evening meal. He measures his blood sugar six time a day: 7:30am (breakfast), 9:30 am, noon, 5:30 pm (dinner), 7:30 pm, and 9:30 pm. My concern is the apparent difference in effectiveness of the Humalog which he takes at 7:30 am and 5:30 pm. He measures his blood sugar two hours after taking the Humalog (@ 9:30 am and @ 7:30 pm).
Avatar m tn Is it common for someone with type 2 diabetes to be on Humalog 3X daily and Lantus 1X daily?
Avatar n tn Yesterday was told by a nurse that the Lantus I take is really low compared to amount of Humalog I take, but she never told me HOW much she thought I should be taking. I take 1.5 u Humalog per carb for all meals (for last 3 weeks - has changed many times). I'm supposed to take 11 u Lantus in am. My morning BS is usually 300-500. I think the Lantus is not lasting 24 hours. If I try to split the dose, I'm wondering if I need to just take 5 and 6, or if I need to up the overall dose.
20693191 tn?1503884408 Recently my endocrinologist suggest I use Lantus. She thought it would be better for me. I also use Humalog. She started me with 48 units of Lantus, at night. I quickly noticed that it was too high of a dosage. I was waking up in the middle of the night hypoglycemic. The lowest was 2.9 and even then, in the morning, sometimes at 3.5-4.0. She decided to bring it down to 40. Not low enough. During the day my ratios went from 1:7 to 1:6.
Avatar n tn The 72-hour glucose monitor is used often by doctors to attempt to ascertain what kind of glucose patterns a patient is having or how certain foods or activities affect that patient's glucose readings. If you are having trouble fine-tuning your insulin regimen, then your doctor may hope that using this device for a short period of time will help him or her try to establish a better combination of basal dose and mealtiime bolus to keep your glucose levels more even-keeled than they are now.
Avatar m tn My daughter is 16 and we have been through the same thing for 4 1/2 years. Finally we found a Specialist that would do the "rare" testing only to find out that she has "Insulin Binding Antibodies". This causing the insulin to bind to antibodies and not work but only to drop out of sight once it released. She is on a new insulin, Apidra, that is a miracle insulin. It has helped her tremendously.
Avatar n tn I use humalog before bed time and lantus at night. I notice that eversince my sugar levels have been in a ok range, ,my weight has increased by 4 lbs. Does insulin make u gain weight even if you eat healthy???I was thinking of starting to take lantus in the morning....
Avatar f tn I have been diabetic for ten years now and have been taking lantus and humalog this whole time. Well a new doctor Im seeing took me off lantus due to the fact that it could cause my twins to become insulin resistant. She has me taking more of the humalog but it doesn't seem to be helping me and now i have a harder time controlling my sugar where before i kept it pretty well controlled. Should i get a second opinion or does anyone have suggestions?
Avatar f tn and weights well over 230 pounds only takes 34 units of lantus at night and up to 16 units of humalog if he eats pizza. I have told him that the lantus dose is governed by weight and since I weigh 220 and take 33 units a day, he isn't taking nearly enough. I think he is compensating with the humalog, which runs a higher risk that he will and does have insulin reactions. I also started out taking lantus at night.
Avatar n tn The high levels at night are probably happening because the evening Lantus is not truly lasting 24 hours. See if this makes sense to you... Lantus is marketed as a 24-hour insulin, but it doesn't work full force for exactly 24 hours and then -- poof -- suddenly quit. If you read the paperwork in your Lantus box, you will read that it lasts anywhere between 20-24 hours.
Avatar n tn I have a diabetic question. My daughter was diagnosed a week ago and we are having trouble staying on the right time for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We were actually late for both breakfast and lunch; but she didn't eat dinner at all!!! She slept right through and she was so tired that she wouldn't wake up. No worries her sugar is staying stable for now.
Avatar n tn I have recently been switched to Lantus & Humalog and I have some questions. I take it in the morning. If I awake with an abnormal blood sugar (too high) I assume I would take a small dose of fast acting. Would I also take a small dose of fast acting if my blood sugar is normal, as to cover my breakfast? I know to count the carbs before the lunch meal and the dinner meal, but didn't ask about the breakfast meal.
Avatar n tn ve had Type I diabetes for 41 and have done great on Lente/Regular - until Lente was discontinued this summer. I switched to Lantus/Humalog about six weeks ago, and I will be the first one to stand up and say that the fine tuning of the doseage takes time and patience. I learned during the first week that 1) in my case Lantus only lasts about 18 hours, 2) it has a definite peak for me at about 5 hours after injection.
Avatar n tn I give myself about 21 units of insulin per day--13 units of Lantus and a sliding scale of Humalog between 6-10 units--depending on how many carbohydrates I have eaten--So, it takes me about 2-3 months to use a bottle of Humalog and the Lantus would take longer, but I must open a new bottle every month for consistency issues. Does that help?
Avatar n tn My sister also has type 1 and takes lantus at bedtime and then takes humalog for correction AND to cover food with carbs, so in her case, if her BG is not High (if it IS under a particular number that she and her doc have discussed), then she does not need a correction shot AND if she was not going to eat anything containing carbs at that time, she would not need humalog to cover food, HOWEVER, she would still take her lantus shot at bedtime.
Avatar n tn I use Lantus cartridges in a Humalog pen. And it works perfectly. For me, a major benefit of switching from NPH to Lantus has been the reduced variability in action. And delivery via the Humalog pen appears to be very consistent.
Avatar n tn My son recently changed from NPH/R/H to Lantus and humalog pens. This is his fourth day on Lantus. He is doing fine but I am having problems trusting the Lantus - when his b/s drops below 100, I want to give him a can of apple juice, and of course that causes a moderate high. Also, he is not interested in stopping to eat as many snacks and meals because he does not have to 'feed' the NPH. Are these common problems in families starting on Lantus?
Avatar f tn I have yet to check humalog, but I imagine they offer the same thing. I am on Lantus and Humalog as well and the price of these insulins has almost doubled in the past couple years.
Avatar m tn Since both the Lantus and the fast actings are clear, I accidentally gave myself a Lantus-amount of Humalog! Well, if nothing else, it was a damn good exuse to eat candy for the next hour! Could you have done this by mistake? Also, I talked to my MD who is the Medical Director of the Joslin Clinic in my town, and he said that Lantus still works for 24 hrs. even when given IV, though it probably does start sooner than the usual 1 hour, the strength is the same.
