Lantus how supplied

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus how supplied

lantus

Avatar n tn The reason lies back to the pH value of the Lantus and the pH value of your body. Values of pH simply describe how acidic or how basic a solution is, the closer to 1 the solution is more acidic and the closer to 14 the solution is, the more basic. Your body resides at a neutral pH of 7 and the pH value of Lantus resides at about 4, which explains why it stings when it comes into contact.
Avatar m tn Lantus should be used as your long acting / basal insulin. look up basal testing, which will explain how to work out what dose of lantus you need. Then you use fast acting insulin based on how many carbs you eat and your insulin sensitivity. #30 is too low. You want to keep your blood sugar in the 70 - 120 range (ideally middle of this range if you can).
Avatar f tn I have been on lantus since about 2003, and in 2007 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I ve just been reading how lantus may cause cancer . im afraid the lantus may have caused this. did anyone else have anything like this happen? as well im type1 diabetic and my bloodsugers are really up and down all the time and i take a split dose of lantus. my suger will drop and stay down all day or for hours!
Avatar n tn I have had so much problem with that Lantus Opticlik that my Health Providers will switch me to the Levimere Flex Pen after I use up all the lantus cartridges. Is lantus a better insulin or is Levimere just as good as Lantus using it as a basal 24 Hour insulin???. I get my supplies from the Military Hospital because I am a retired service member and they do not have the lantus solostar flex pen but they do have the levimer flex pen.
Avatar f tn I have been on Metformin, Januvia and Glimeperide for a few years. They are not controlling my diabetes. She wanted me to try Victoza and give up the Januvia. I got over fear of giving myself the shot, but on the 3rd day I began to get sick. On the 4th and 5th days I couldn't even go to work. Changed shot to before bed instead of morning and it made no difference. After a little over a week I stopped it. Lost 5 lbs cause I couldn't eat anything.
Avatar n tn My first question about the weight gain would be whether your control has been considerably better since starting the Lantus. Many people find that their a1c numbers drop considerably when they start this insulin regimen after being on older routines for years. If this be the case, it could explain the weight gain... you may no longer be burning off your own body fat, and your body may be utilizing the foods you eat better with better glucose contro;.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know a formula for amount of Lantus needed for a basal dose vs how many units fast-acting you take per carb? I have major swings. Yesterday was told by a nurse that the Lantus I take is really low compared to amount of Humalog I take, but she never told me HOW much she thought I should be taking. I take 1.5 u Humalog per carb for all meals (for last 3 weeks - has changed many times). I'm supposed to take 11 u Lantus in am. My morning BS is usually 300-500.
Avatar n tn I have been type 1 diabetic for 24 years now (female), and I am using lantus(once a day) and humalog(3 times) for the last 5 years. between bedtime and breakfast I am having a drop in BGs of around 10-13 mmols. and then in the mornings, after breakfast BGs shoot up, so my normal carb-insulin ratio doesnt work well. I cannot understand why this overnight drop is happening, which is becoming scary. I tested BGs during the night and there seems to be a drop of 2 mmol/hour.
Avatar f tn You did not mention how old the bottle of Lantus is that you are using. Lantus comes with instructions saying to not use any "open" bottle longer than one month. My twin and I, both type 1 diabetics and both on Lantus, do notice unpredictable things happening when a bottle is older than one month, or occasionally when a bottle seems to go "bad a little bit before the one month deadline.
Avatar f tn My doc put me on that toujeo stuff, I gained weight same as you all, felt like crap it was the same 70 units as I was taking with lantus. He said something about it last longer and other stuff. I had enough told him I want lantus back and someone needs to figure out where to put all these toujeo pens that I got cause I'm not taking it anymore.
Avatar n tn I am not a phycan, but i would highly suggest that you dcusss this change with your endocronolgist as you might have to do this over several days as lantus is a 24 hr insurlin. The other is that lantus really doies not have a peak so it should not effect your luch time injuection.
Avatar n tn I have been prescribed Lantus insulin for my diabetes. Since I have started using the injections (6 months), I have experienced dry and burning in my eyes. My doctor suggested that I get my tear ducts plugged to make sue I have enough tears to be able to wear contacts. I have worn contacts since 1976, and this is the first major problems that I have had. I now have to wear glasses at all times; maybe once every two weeks I can wear contacts for 3-5 hours.
Avatar n tn I am on Lantus and Novalog. I am using the pen needles. My problem is that the last two Lantus pens I have tried using were working fine , until I got down to about 200 to 240 units left in the 250 unit pens and then I could no longer depress the button. What is going on. and how do I rectify this problem. My insurance company will not allow me to get more insulin by the time I run out of my present amount.
Avatar n tn Hi Suzanne - thank you for you quick response and advice for my daughter. I can sympathize with what you're going through - it's not easy, but you will adjust, and will be just fine. As far as the Lantus, my daughter injects in arms and upper thigh (rotating the site) each night. She does complain of it burning (even if the Lantus sits out and warms up for a bit). Don't know how to avoid the burning. So far, no knots or heaviness yet.
Avatar n tn I am so sorry about what you are experiencing. This is the nightmare of all insulin dependent diabetics, going low in the middle of the night and not being able to wake up. I am not a doctor, so my advice comes from 40 years of experience with Type I Diabetes. There will always be some swings with daibetes. There are so many variables; food, exercise, hormones, stress, illness, etc. Many of these can't be controlled.
Avatar n tn No, I am not aware of any people who have contacted us with any kind of resistance to Lantus. I do know that Lantus must be replaced at the end of a month on one bottle. The expiration date is really important, for near the end of the month, some of us find that it no longer crystallizes properly. Some people notice that when the Lantus bottle is about one month old, it doesn't work well. But if you just started the bottle, this is probably not the problem.
12861759 tn?1432917955 How does the Dawn Phenomenon affect the Lantus adjustment? I started at 40u and I am now at 80u but still not seeing 130. My fasting readings for 2 straight days at 6, 7 and 8 am were (average) 136, 149, 157. I know I need to eat to bring those down. It seems I might be closer to 130 if say I took my fasting reading at 3 or 4 am. It not really much of a fast if I have a snack before bed and don't go to sleep till 11 or midnight. I was worried that 80u is way too much.
Avatar n tn I know this is an old posting, but interested to know how you're getting on with the lantus following the unexplained hypos. I came off it for same reason, and it made me ill-loads of other symptoms too. Are you still on it and are you still having unexplained hypos, or any other problems?
Avatar n tn thank you,i donot think she can, also will the lantus do more as it is increased and how far should the increase should it be done in 2u or can it go up 5u with no problems if i watch the blood sugars?
Avatar n tn Scottlaw, We are volunteers here and not medical professionals. We do have a lot of experience with Type 1. It is time to check in with your end about this pattern. When we have a severe low, it does take time for our liver to restore the levels of glycogen needed to combat the next low.
Avatar n tn I personally find that knowing how all of these outside factors affect my body is absolutely necessary in order to be able to manage the glucose levels and know when to increase or when to decrease the basal Lantus dose. You might want to ask your doctor about how the factors mentioned above affect glucose levels. You might also want to read about them, perhaps by doing a Google search on any of those words combined with the words "affect of ___ on diabetes". Good luck to you.
Avatar n tn Hi again Tumtum, I'm not a Lantus user, but I've read a fair amount (from other users) so I hope I can be of some help. Since Lantus is commonly used today, I hope others will chime in with their tips 'n' tricks, too. The process of finetuning can be so frustrating. As I'm sure you know a cold or flu can wreack havoc on our control in very unpredictable ways. Even with a well-honed routine during healthy times, our control often cannot be tight during those times.
