Lantus and glyburide

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus and glyburide

lantus

Avatar m tn I am now up to 25 units of lantus and 1000 in the AM and 500 in the PM of metformin. I have liver issues and maybe the IR is playing into this. Anyone have any insight into this?
Avatar n tn I know several with Hep-c who take Metformin.
183933 tn?1290216962 They feel this is more dangerous than unknown possible risks from glyburide. I have read that glyburide is considered very safe in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters but there has never been any study of the drug in pg women that I could find. If it makes you feel better, go ahead and ask your surrogate if she would switch to insulin at least for a month or two. That will give the babies time to finish all of those early developments that can be so sensitive.
Avatar n tn My tests indicate to Drs. I am or am becoming type 1 and concerned with weight loss so placed on insulin. Lantus -5 units. Sugars are controlled and A1c in the 6'es. The big problem is that I am basically foggyheaded all the time upon awakening. Unclear, drunk feeling although not like I am going to fall down. they have checked adrenal glands, thyroid, etc. there seems to be no pattern with sugar levels. Could it be the suger levels, or insulin itself?? Or something else.
Avatar m tn Is it common for someone with type 2 diabetes to be on Humalog 3X daily and Lantus 1X daily?
12861759 tn?1432917955 I am currently using Lantus and Novolog. Drs. advice is to start with 40 units of Lantus and up it 2 units every third day until I get a fasting BG of less then 130. Is it more important to get to my Lantus goal on a consistant basis before I try to adjust my Novolog?
Avatar n tn My doctor also prescribed me Glyburide. Looks like it is safe for pregnancy, you just have to watch out for signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia.
Avatar n tn Hello. I am T1 since Oct 2004, and switched to Lantus in Feb. Most of my BG numbers are very good (A1Cs 6.0 and 5.5), but since switching to Lantus, I have experienced 5 episodes of sudden and extreme drops in BG. They happen late morning, not related to breakfast, novolog dose or exercise. My BG is usually above 150 when it starts, and I must consume 150-200 grams of carbs (as juice or gel) to get it to stabilize, usually in 20-30 mins.
Avatar n tn About a month ago, my doctor changed my long acting insulin from Novolin NPH to Lantus. This completely threw me off and I ended up being woken up by paramedics 3 times in 1 week. My blood sugar would be normal before bed and then by morning it had gone to 1.8. When I would eat a snack before bed to keep my blood sugar from dropping, I would go high - 13.0-15.0 on average. My doctor has now switched me back to my Novolin NPH and I am still having a hard time getting back on track.
6452556 tn?1381422100 Diabetics dont make enough or cant use the insulin we make, by taking Glyburide it forces the pancreas to make more insulin. This allows the cells to use the BG and store more BG as fat thereby lowering BG.
Avatar n tn I have been type 1 diabetic for 24 years now (female), and I am using lantus(once a day) and humalog(3 times) for the last 5 years. between bedtime and breakfast I am having a drop in BGs of around 10-13 mmols. and then in the mornings, after breakfast BGs shoot up, so my normal carb-insulin ratio doesnt work well. I cannot understand why this overnight drop is happening, which is becoming scary. I tested BGs during the night and there seems to be a drop of 2 mmol/hour.
1273125 tn?1365077526 My doctor asked that I come in and see the CNP. I did as requested and she along with my consent agreed to start me on Lantus. I have tried the Januvia, Actos, Byetta, etc and none of those have helped. We agreed that if my mealtime numbers continued to be high that we would use a bolus insulin such as Novolog. I contacted her and she was going to call in the Novolog. My numbers have remained high and I am begining to worry about long term effects.
Avatar n tn I have tried correlating it with high doses of H due to high carb intake and then a possible mixing of the H with the Lantus. Neither theory panned out. Does anyone have any similar experiences? I was warned by nurse that I might have reactions to the Lantus, but have not been able to get back to the clinic to find out if this is a normal reaction that will go away. So far, it does wax and wane so my motivation is confused. Will this go away after awhile?
Avatar f tn 5mg and im concern about what to eat one minute my sugar is high and then it will drop tremendously
704262 tn?1247674638 Yes, you can take Novolog and Lantus in separate injections, but they may not be mixed in the same injection or at the same injection site. Generally Novolog is only prescribed if you follow a strict physician-approved routine. If you have a meter and strictly monitor results of various combinations under vary circumstances use of both medications should cause no problems. Be careful using the Novolog because you can easily drop your blood sugar to very low levels.
Icecream The main concern I would have about the addition to Lantus 20 units daily would be the risk of low blood sugar, especially in combination with glimepiride. Both Lantus and glimepiride can cause low blood sugar or hypoglycemia. Just make sure you're watching for the signs of low blood sugar, which are, sudden headache, feeling shaky, and weakness. There are many more signs of hypoglycemia and I encourage you to research it more yourself.
Avatar m tn I returned to using Lanthos (80 units per day) and even with Glyburide, I am unable to manage my BS levels. My BP is also unmanageable and the only solution that has worked for me in the past is walking - 20+ miles a day. I have been seen by the wound care people and all they offer is a ridiculous shoe to wear that is completely impractical. My question is two-fold: How can I force these people to remove the toe?
604185 tn?1233960857 The reason I asked was my mother is a diabetic and is on glucaphage and the dietition said that those kinds of medicines are not an option when pregnant. If you truly are concerned I would try to speak with a diabetic nurse and she what she says some times there more knowledgeable in those areas than our doctors. Hope this is helpful.
Avatar n tn I have been on insulin for nearly 38 years and am lucky enough to have no complications so believe I have managed my control pretty well. However since starting to use Lantus (and I was one of the first users in the UK) I have stopped having real problems with hypos but have had great problems with consistency of delivery. I want to find out whether this is just me (and I do not think so) and how many other diabetics are having similar problems and what they are doing about it.
Avatar n tn This has happened in early afternoon and after dinner. She is on Novalog and NPH before breakfast and Novalog and lantus in the evening. The fact that it has happened two different times in day is why I "hoped" this was a diluted reading rather than actual blood glucose reading. This is all new to me and now I'm fearing the bath. ho hum...Thanks.
Avatar n tn I use a short-acting insulin, Novolog, and a 24-period insulin, Lantis. I give Novolog with each meal, and Lantus when I go to bed. I am having troubles with my sugars in the morning. I wake up at 7am, and eat breakfast. I give my shot immediately after eating breakfast, around 7:20. I test my sugar before I eat breakfast and it is normally good. Then at 8am, I head to school. When I arrive at school around 9am, I test my sugar, which is usually pretty high (200-300).
Avatar m tn Do not dilute Lantus and do not mix Lantus with any other type of insulin. And, do not switch to another brand or type of insulin or change the dose or dosage time of any type of insulin you are using without first talking to your doctor.
Avatar n tn I use humalog before bed time and lantus at night. I notice that eversince my sugar levels have been in a ok range, ,my weight has increased by 4 lbs. Does insulin make u gain weight even if you eat healthy???I was thinking of starting to take lantus in the morning....
